  • Although the 5010 V5 has been out for over a year now, we wanted to drop a detailed video going over some of the changes for all of you riders out there looking for a playful, poppy trail bike from Santa Cruz.
Business up front, party in the back... The Santa Cruz 5010 V5 is a highly capable, 29''/27.5''' mullet trail bike, built for maximizing the fun factor of riding a mountain bike. With some of the new updates, they have expanded the fun factory and made it more versatile so it can handle just about any and everything you put in front of it.
Santa Cruz is known for it's tried and true VPP (Virtual Pivot Point) suspension, build quality, and color-coordinated paint schemes, making them some of the most sought after bikes on the market. Because sometimes they may be hard to tell apart, I made sure to toss in a quick lineup overview towards the end of the video to help clarify some of the models.
The particular build show in this video is the C GX AXS in both model year colorways, "Gloss Red" and "Matte Nickel and Yellow." This build has SRAM's previous generation AXS system, SRAM G2 RS brakes, Rockshox Pike Select+ fork up front with the previous generation Rockshox Super Deluxe Select+ shock in the back, a Rockshox Reverb dropper post, in-house Santa Cruz carbon bars, Burgtec MK3 stem, RaceFace ARC Offset 30 rims laced with Industry Nine 1/1 hubs, Maxxis DHR II tires front and rear, a Cane Creek Forty headset, and and a wide variety of other reliable spec parts tossed in to create a bike that literally needs absolutely nothing else but a pilot.
Join T-1000 as it goes over one of Santa Cruz's most popular bikes, the 5010 V5!

    I'll take the 5010 or Bronson. 😊

This thing rode super damp to me even with a higher pressure in the shock. Needs a ton of rider input to wake up. Probably excellent on steeeps in the west but for MN chunk and rolling hills it's a bit sluggish compared to a pivot Switchblade or esker Rowl.

And for me I found the switchblade too bouncy and underdamped when riding in the southwest US (despite Pivot being headquartered there). I can appreciate exactly why it would be behind the Midwest!

Personally I have never ridden a Mixed bike, I know that Santa Cruz is expensive, and I am sticking with Marin or other California mtb brands easier for my wallet.

Naa, if I were to purchased this bike major changes! I make a full 27.5 front and back and add a fox 36 160mm orange fork. Forget mullet or mixed wheels. I don’t understand how riders buy into the mixed wheels. Well my opinion.

Mixed wheels is for the guy who loves 29er’s but hates getting their ass buzzed on descents. I have a bike with MX wheelset and another bike that’s full 29. I rode the MX exclusively for months. When I went back on the 29er, I buzzed my ass on the rear wheel on the first descent. It not only buzzes your ass, it pulls your ass and groin into the back of the seat. Scary AF.

      I want Yeti SB165 or SB130 instead of this Santa Cruz. Ugly 27.5 + 29 :(

If you can get your hands on a V3 C or CC frame, that one is the perfect setup for 27.5 with a Fox 36 and float DHX2 or the newer version X. You’ll have to shorten the 36 to 150mm though to not alter the geometry too much, or ride with the flip chip in low setting. Throw on 165mm or shorter cranks too. The V3 also has the suspension pivot up higher so no mud or clearance issues. I think the V3 is the peak design of the 5010 range for maximum handling, playability and slope style riding for a trail bike.
