I love Uriah’s outlook on his hair- “If I don’t like it, I can grow it back. It’s hair.” I also think it’s a great idea to get someone who is not his parent encourage him to take care of it. It helps to hear a voice outside of that which you hear all the time. And it helps to hear the voice of someone who has only one role in your child’s life. He will only be your child’s barber. 😊

Loved this. My son has thick beautiful hair like Uriah and a tip for detangling: never detangle afro textured hair dry. He may have an easier time in the shower, with conditioner in it and a wider tooth comb or detangling brush. This made my son feel more confident in detangling his hair on his own. I have 3 sons. I cut their hair in the beginning. When i got tired of cutting it, i would take them to the barbers. THEY LOVED IT! I realized i was keeping them from community. They heard a little bad stuff but they got to hear a lot of good. They were the guys i grew up with and went to school with. It taught them what i couldnt about taking care of themselves as Young Men! They also learned about being patient. Uriah will love it.

Parents often make all the decisions for their children and what I love is how you all also give your children opportunities to make decisions for themselves. Uriah showed a maturity and understanding that this is the next chapter in his journey of self discovery. He learned it's okay to take a chance on something new.
