They used to make billiard balls out of it (or at least the coating on the outside) in the 1800s. They had to stop because people at saloons would draw their guns when the balls would detonate while playing pool.
@@fitrianhidayat Why did they make billiard balls out of it? From ~1600's billiard balls were made out of elephant ivory. As you can imagine, it was extremely expensive! Nitrocellulose was one of the first polymers, and when in a solid form, it was very hard like ivory. It was only after some incidences that they realised it was explosive. The discovery that it was explosive is actually what lead to the discovery of smokeless gunpowder - It is mostly made of nitrocellulose.
possible, but it wouldn't result in detonation, and rust wouldn't spark when hit unless a reactive metal was present such as aluminum (creating a thermite reaction)
@@nikowalkers I aint gonna give you the synthesis, google is your friend. However ill say that if you add a phosphorus agent to nitrocotton that makes it more friction/shock sensitive. Basically makes it more dangerous to handle without any real advantage, so dont add any phosphorus to nitrocotton. Nitrocotton it a potent enough explosive as is. Now you wanna make it interesting use dryer lint instead of cottonballs 😉
It's the same cellulose that plants are made of, it's been nitrated and becomes explosive. It's dangerous to make but it's simple enough that you could do it in a high school chemistry class
For anyone wondering what he says at the beginning of the video: “salushflowlythatshosensitive? welltodayweregonnafinout. sawayhave… thatmuch…andhammer.”
i had no idea nitrocellulose was shock sensitive

@@robertbach9376why though

Wrap it into a ball inside of aluminum foil first and then hammer it. Wear ear protection and eye protection.
oh i know confinement is better but this is an unconfined test
Old transformer as a anvil? Thats awesome
One of the infinite uses of MOT's. That's why you never through away a microwave without taking it's transformer and other pieces.
spicy fiber glass
Spicy cotton
Bro got a Critical Hit🤯💀💀🤑
Bro don’t destroy that oven transformer
it was already burned to death
Nitrocellulose is pretty sensitive, just like my ex-wife.
Did you do the hammer test too?
I think its igniting because of the rust making sparks hidden in the cotton from the hammer stikes.

Blend Nitrocellulose and Nitroglyserin into blasting gelatine and see if there is any remarkable occurance, as of a decreased sensitivity...
Does this mean my guitar picks are shock sensitive?
possibly, depending on level of nitration but they definitely would be flammable at least
This needs a slow mo cam to see
HV abused by chemistry
why use a rusty axe when you could abuse a MOT instead?? (cool video btw lol)
Yea
how to buy red or white phosphorus in your country 🙏
Why you want to sucide ? Or make meth?
You dont need that to make nitrocotton bro.
@@pewpewchris21 then how to make it, the composition is correct bro

yes I've never made it like that, but I'm surprised cotton can be made like that. if you make something stronger than that I know💫✨
what is it made of 🤔🤔🤔🤔
nitrocellulose

😂🤷
Will it detonate reliably when confined if only using a fuse or will a detonator be needed?
If you have to ask that, you shouldn’t even be asking that. Go to college take some chem answer your own question
Is it nitroglycerin?
