QUESTION FOR THE COMMENTS:
Why do you think hypocrisy is so much easier to spot in others sometimes than it is in ourselves?
HERE'S HOW:
As an exercise in honesty, write down three things:
1. How much did you give last year?
2. What’s your goal for giving this year?
3. What conversation can you have with one other person about your financial life where you can be accountable for your choices?
After walking through this exercise, pay attention to your responses and any inward tension you may feel. Then, seek to live generously in secret.

We are so blind to ourselves because of pride.
Is it because most/all of us have an element of hypocrisy in our lives. If that is true then I can project my own hypocrisy into the world around me and find elements of it it in other people's lives.
I believe its because i judge others by their worst behavior while judging myself by my best intentions. Over inflated ego and pride. I'm praying for strength to spot this before it happens and "turn around, dont drown (repent)."
Why is it easier to see hypocrisy in others? It reminds me of taking photos. I can get the whole person in view when I photograph another, but when I take a selfie I only get that portion of me that I want. I may even selectively delete all the shots in which I don’t look my best. My curated life tells an alternate story, while my quick takes of others record their flaws.
I like the story of putting on the mask and generally becoming that new, better person... Become New! Change can happen slowly, 10 minutes a day, one (weekday) at a time. It might not happen overnight... but a lot of small changes over time can add up.
I love this. “The idea that I am morally superior to anyone is always toxic, misguiding, and misleading always.” Amen.
Seeing myself as I truly am can be confronting. I love the story of the mask - growing into who I want to be!
I'm amazed at how much i think i am not morally superior to others, but on reflection, in so many categories of behavior and circumstances, I compare and find flaws in others, especially those flaws that I have overcome, and especially flaws that make me look smarter, more kind, more clever, more witty, etc., than other people. Guilty as charged. Father God, please help me surrender this defect and make amends where I have hurt others in the process.
good morning ☀️ YAS, oh God, I need help, to be real, to be more like you. Unmask my heart ❤️, thank you, in Jesus name🙏🏻💕🍃
Love this one, been recommending to all of my friends here in Kenya 🇰🇪
Great story twist!
Why is it easier to see other's hypocrisy? I can answer that in one word...EGO. our own ego prevents us from seeing the truth about who we really are. Also, the ego loves to feel better than others, so it looks for opportunities to puff itself up.
Ah, cleaning out the wine skin is hard because only I can do it. Can I face the pieces I so desperately want to ignore. Has the mask become so comfortable that my nakedness without it would be unbearable? I think it's time to finally spend time with the part of me I don't like or am agraid to see, and bare it all to the one who loves me and risk to find out that he loves me with my withered hand.
When I see hypocrisy in others, the embarrassment of my own hypocrisy diminishes. The log in my own eye quickly becomes a speck. I feel that I no longer have to work on my problem for theirs look so much bigger than mine.
Yes, John!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love hewaring Pastor John. Listening always gives me hope and makes me not feel so hopeless and worthless. Thanks, Pastor John and Tim. God Bless. Please pray for me and my family. We miss my Dad who passed on Jan 15th from Dementia.
Thank you. John and team for a good understanding of hypocrisy. Thanks to the Greeks, the symbol of theater is the two masks, one for comedy, another for tragedy. We slip them on so easily. Jesus calls us on this, so we can be like spiritual children. Children do not wear masks, until we teach them to.
Because we look in a mirror, walk away and immediately forget who we are. Stumbling, fumbling humans. 🙏🏻🕊💙
Nice James reference there
Thank you John!
So is the "Heeeeer's Johnny" mask on the shelf for good? LOL
❤
Am I wearing a mask to hide my true self from others or can I use the mask to inspire myself to change into what the mask represents? Unfortunately, I'm afraid the answer isn't what I want it to be.
