    The patch for the door hinges looks like something Airstream should have done when the trailer was built. Good job.

    Just a pro-tip, if you put a little tape on the end of your rivet gun, it helps keep it from slipping off the rivets and cuts down on the “divets” or “eyebrows” that come from being slightly off center. I can’t say where I work, but I build a very specific door and use this technique daily. 40+ rivets around the door, 36+ around the window. Great job on the restore!

    Thanks for the video. I did not know how buck rivets were installed. You clearly showed the technique.
    As an aside, it is nice to restore an Airstream. But, to dismantle the Airstream, polish the exterior, remove and then re-install some 4000 buck rivets, and reassemble the Airstream, it must be prohibitively time consuming and expensive.

      Glad you enjoyed it. Lol and yes, I would not recommend someone do what I am doing. It will be epic when its done but yea, its a massive undertaking. I am not replacing all the rivets, just the ones that need to be aside from the window and door frames.

    Loved the video. I am trying to figure out doing the buck rivets with the windows. Can you do it with the windows in place, or do you take them out? I followed your video on cleaning the windows. I am doing one at a time. I know it will take me forever that way. Also, did you ever figure out what to do with the window that was broken? Did you find someone that could make curved glass?

    I was trying to get a look at the driver (that goes into the airhammer)...the one I picked up has kind of a post in the middle which I'm afraid will put a hole in the center of the rivet

    Hello Miller garage! I am starting an airstream project just now. Where is a good place to buy all the paraphernalia you are using in this video? I am also in need of all sorts of spare parts and cleaning materials. I will put in some new lights and brackets and such but I do not now a good place to purchase these things online. I live in europe so it has to be an online store. Can you give me some advice?
    Cheers,

    Ok, I would have thought that the impact hammer would go on the inside so there is no chance of marring the aluminum skin?

    • @MillerGarage
      @MillerGarage  Před 3 lety

      Nope on the outside. You keep the pressure down so you don't punch it in. The hammer bit has a concave dome head the fits the rivet. Like I said in the video, you have to keep it straight to not put a little mark in the metal if you are off angle.

    Would it be a good idea to wear ear protect using the rivet gun? Could not understand the type of tape and sealant you used. Please don’t get into bait and click.

    • @MillerGarage
      @MillerGarage  Před 5 lety +1

      Eh, its not that loud in my opinion. I wear them while polishing but with riveting I keep the gun turned down to not bend the aluminum and its not loud. At 2:27 I mention I am using butyl tape and I used Tremco 635 sealant. What do you mean bait and click?
