#SegaPrincess #SEGA #Ninja
Ninja Princess for Project X Zone 3!
Okay, we need more kunoichi(female ninjas).
My fav lesser-known Genesis games were: Dragon's Fury (a heavy metal pinball game), Rings of Power, and Warrior of Rome II. To this day I still have them.
Here after trying my hardest to get through Ready Player 2
It’s like running a gauntlet of stupidity. I mean there’s a whole chapter dedicated to this.
It's basically a novelization of a screen play. Plenty of action for Spielberg to cram in. Sadly, no characters to develop.
This was one of the two first games I ever owned as a kid, the other being Alex Kidd in Miracle World and remains in my top 10 favourite of all time. Its really that good to me, I feel it holds up amazingly too, shame there was never any sequels
She's cute. I wish she caught on and stayed relevant.
+Demon Lord, Cal (Brandon) same here :(
I blame that one hedgehog for the rarity of early SEGA arcade games.
@@leroyvisiongames2294 I think it's more Joe Musashi's fault. Through this game falls into obscurity like many System 1 games.
Yeah, I like a lot of the system 1 games. My Hero is one I play a lot because I’m pretty much a video game masochist when it comes to difficult games (I recently ordered Famicom Star Wars on eBay, that one’s a tuffy for sure...).
At least Ninja Princess's charm sort of lived on with Pocky and Rocky/Kiki Kaikai.
When I got my master system in 1992 I had Alex Kidd (built in), Enduro Racer and The Ninja. I was so lucky. The Ninja was a brilliant game and I never knew until THIS WEEK that it was a take/port of a Sega Arcade game. Thanks, internet. The scroll thing was great as like you said it added replayability. I don't think as a kid I was able to find all the scrolls. God knows how I even found out about some of them - I swear my mum overheard some kids talking in a shop about one of them or something. Same with the continue cheat for Alex Kidd - she heard kids talking outside the co-op and got involved in the convo as she knew how much I loved that game and needed extra lives lol.
I remember as a kid actually DREAMING about the Ninja. It seemed very open world (being able to go all over levels) for the time and had so much variety. It was one of my fav games on the SMS and indeed one of my favourite games of all time. And the music - Jesus. I'm gonna grab the tunes after I post this. Haven't played it in so long. Time to revisit my childhood...
I love the MS Ninja game, bought on a whim as a kid when I had a few quid and couldn't be bothered to save up for a good game. It paid off!
I wasn't aware there was an arcade version with a female protagonist until I stumbled upon the arcade cabinet in a barcade in St. Marks, NY last year.
Another example of another well made classic buried and lost to time XD Luckily we've got badasses like you to keep us in the know~! I'll be giving these a go as soon as possible! Well made video dude! XD
+Jason Patrick Bryan Massive thanks mate :D Yeah i suggest giving them another go, quality little game that's fully stuck with me
2021, and Ready Player 2 book made the justice this ninja princess deserved
Sometimes I wish I had gotten a Sega Master System instead of a Nintendo. Ninja Princess would've been my favorite game!
ready player twoに出たゲームなのでこの動画があって助かりました。
thankyou!!
Excellent video. Def deserve more views.
Retro Grand Prix ahhhhhh thanks guys, hopefully in time the channel will get a bit more popular, thanks for commenting
Loved The Ninja as a kid.
Trying to look up all the games in the Sega Ages intro cameos that I’ve never had the chance to play. This looked like fun to play for sure
I haven't played any version of that, but you've made me want to find a copy. Great video Daniel!
+Carbon Knights Gaming glad i have, warning alert... ITS HARD
Great channel! I've got my fingers crossed that at some point you will review my favourite mega drive games ... shining force 1 & 2
I owned Ninja Princess on the SC 3000 and there was an arcade version of it near my school so I was a big fan of this short lived franchise. Never did find all five scrolls though in the SC 3000 version.
+Brian Costelloe i never played the sc-3000 on the original hardware so i am sitting here very jealous right now hahaha, i too never found all the scrolls when i was a kid
I remember seeing a Sega Ninja cabinet in a store a long time ago and playing it a few times. Couldn't get past the first stage, and never had enough time or pocket change for extensive play, but it was fun. I'd probably stand a better chance now that I'm more experienced.
Really interesting video, never knew about this game. Will look out for it on the Master System now.
Ahhhh its one of my favs on the system. I am no good at it lol BUT I LIKE IT A LOT :D
Another great video!
A friend of mine used to have "The Ninja" on his Master System and have been meaning to pick it up since I've got the console (only have the built in sonic so far). Was really interesting to find out about the ninja princess. I think the graphics look better in that version too! :-)
MyGamerXP Yeah defo, it wasnt until i started looking into this video a few months back that I found out it was a clone too. Glad ya liked it :)
I love this game...First game I remember playing with my dad. He died 2 years back and wenever beat it. Two months ago I I finally did for him. I am importing Nija process sega card, Nd ha e the arcade on Mister FPGA.
I played Sega Ninja/Ninja Princess for the first time yesterday, at "Cosmic Corner"(it sounds like a good name for a games arcade, it's actually a kind of psychedelic shop, which also has an old school games cabinet with about 5000 games on the hardware). Only made it to stage 3, but it was pretty cool, a lot of old arcade games will crush you unless you play like a slave from the word go, but Ninja Princess was perhaps a little kinder. One thing I particularly liked was discovering the usefulness of her mini-teleport(button 'C') on stage 3, for getting past boulders and I saw how it'd be as good for avoid the horses on the stampede stage. I mean to put a review on Moby Games soon.
Yeah the ninja is a great game
takes me back
And the best thing about the Ninja on the Master System?...It was only £9.99 brand new to buy, it wasn't a full price game!
Probably still kept that value
I had this game growing up for this reason, it was very cheap! Glad I bought it, because it's still a favourite to this day.
I still have my original SMS copy, but I think this talked me into trying the version that's on the Wii U VC.
I am a Retro game colector and a week ago i grabed a bargain of SEGA Master System Games (MS was my first console) and in the bundle there was 4 PP (Portuguese Purple Edition Games wich are very Rare to find) and one of them was th Gamebox that brings Shinobi, The Ninja and karate Kid. But i still love Shadow Dancer on the MS more than everything. And now a personal opinion. You have done a great job on your videos. As a new sub im watchig every single video and they are awsome... Keep Up the good Work man... Cheers from Portugal...
+PaJo Gaming I am so happy yopu are working your way through the vieos, Great find on PPs btw! that is amazing.
So happy you like my content, hope I make plenty more that you enjoy.
+Daniel Ibbertson (Slope's Game Room) i like history related videos. i like to learn about videogames. And by the way, i loved that unboxing videos about the SOR, Shenmue and Shinobi Unboxing... My girlfriend liked the shinobi one because of the baby... So Cute... Cheers...
Ahhhhhhhh thanks :) I will defo try and get Baby Toby involved in future episodes :D
Yo, it’s me again. Rewatching this because of Ready Player 2. Hopefully this game gains some relevance again now that it plays a major role in a mass-printed sci-fi novel.
So, that means that Samus Aran wasn't the first female hero of gaming?
+Stre Led damn straight :D
+Stre Led damn straight :D
Daniel Ibbertson But Samus lived longer. ;D
Far and away not- but she was the first one with a game anywhere near the popularity of Metroid.
ladybog the arcade game had the first female in gaming, then mrs pac man came affter it, and then there is papri from Girl's Garden(also by sega)
Dude , You are just awesome :D I miss the good old SEGA days !
+abdul WARETH Laham thanks so much bud.
Im the same, classic sega is were its at :D
Ah , to me it always felt like SEGA was always true for gamers ! They were ALWAYS ambitious to deliver the next best gaming experience.
I felt stabbed in the heart when they pulled the plug on the dreamcast.
you know what sucks... I had just about every Sega going - bar sg1000 and nomad.... I fell on hard times and had to sell it all at a sick price... the only thing I will say is, they were not mint condition but very used and loved! either way, selling them said a total goodbye to my youth. I guess I'm grateful for emulation.... sigh...
Order Of Magnitude - The Paranormal & Personal that’s hard man really tear jerking
Still an amazing game. On the Master System and SG-1000 (never played the Arcade Original, because I'm too stupid for Mame).
Just mentioned The Ninja on my Day 1 pick-up recommendations video and did a complete playthrough of Ninja Princess on the SG-1000 about a year ago.
+RISING SUN - Playthroughs and more! Ahhhhhh ya know ur stuff :)
all these games you mentioned. I had....
The best thing about your channel being a Nintendo kid is learning about the old enemy 😁
+Goombasareawesome hahaha im still dipping my toes in your dirty nintendo pool myself
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson Come on in the water is amazing 😂
Fuck I loved "TheNinja" growing up, it came bundles with the Master system 2. In the one birthday present I got Alex Kidd (built in), The Ninja, My Hero & Sonic 1.... Ahhhh~ Fond memories
Love the Zelda humor!
Best version of this is the pixel perfect arcade port on one of the Japanese Sega Memorial compilations on the Saturn. It's got a full sound and sprite test in addition to the arcade dip switches. It's awesome.
+bumtree Wow, I did not know this, Thanks buddy :)
My pleasure! And I thoroughly enjoyed this video - having trumped The Ninja as the best of the original budget SMS games back in the day and getting my mind blown by the existence of its arcade and SG-1000 forebear as an adult. I still have my original hand-drawn maps marking out the secret scrolls tucked inside the game case and only this year tracked down the (relatively inexpensive) Sega Memorial discs so I could finally sit down in comfort to properly play the original game. Hopefully you'll be doing that at some point too.
I was born in the mid 80s though I did play the master system when I was 4 yrs old. I remember choplifter and penguinland and outrun and wanted.
I think the reason why it wasn't very popular is because the Ninja in... The Ninja... wasn't wearing a well know all black ninja suit that every kid in the 80's were used to... either that or teenage mutant turtles wearing blue, red, purple and orange bandannas. I remember renting this game as a kid on my SMS cause I loved ninjas, but then I played the game and my first reaction was: "WHERE'S THE BLACK SUIT NINJA???"
I mean the ninja on the box looks like the traditional black suit ninja I was used to. But then you play the game and he doesn't look like a ninja whatsoever! Plus the game was hard as hell, so I returned it the same day and got another game instead. I wish I had given it more of a chance, but unfortunately I didn't. I mean after watching tons of documentaries about ninjas and their origins, I discovered that not all ninjas have to wear black suits! As a matter a fact, the black ninja skin-tight suit is mainly for night time assassinations. To be a Ninja you just need to learn the arts of Ninjitsu. So if it's day time and your Japanese farm town was attacked, you could just had to grab whatever weapon you could find or owned and then use your Ninjitsy skills to fight'em off! And that's what the Ninja in The NInja is dressed like! He's wearing his regular farming/working clothes.
+Kreeded duuuuuuude thats in depth lol fair play for looking into it that much.
Im glad my video brought back the the memmories of that 1 night at least
That was THE reason I didn't buy "The Ninja." I remember standing in the store as a kid, thinking it looked really cool, but when I turned the box over and saw the guy on the cover wasn't the guy in the game, I handed it back and got something else. Seeing this, I wish I'd given it more of a chance.
How about a video on the forgotten Saturn platformer Astal?
Frontline was the first overhead run n gun. It came out in 1982.
I hope Ready Player Two raises the profile of Ninja Princess enough that it gets a remake much the same way that some other early Sega stuff like Alex Kidd and a few of the Wonder Boy games did. I wouldn't expect such a thing directly from Sega though, as they have a bad habit of letting their old games rust in obscurity.
On the plus side, via a flash cart, you can actually play the SG-1000 port of Ninja Princess on a Master System now.
Found this game a few months just browsing online and had a lot of fun with it. Seeing this video gives me hope that more of you people will learn to like this shiz
"Nezz", "Suhnezz". Love the way you Brits operate.
Hooray for the UK am I right?
Holy shit, you just reminded me of Dragon Crystal. I haven't seen that game for 20 years.
Your channel is really addicting and informative.
It's kinda like Guru Larry, mixed with something else and a original flavour.
But while Larry talks about old PCs most of time, most of your content is Sega, which is awesome, and I like how you talk a lot about old Sega and in general, less known Sega stuff.
I actually recommended your channel on a Sega group I saw.
(Also, talking about Sega, do you know a fairly obscure game called Psychic World? It's really nice actually).
Ahhhhhh thanks so much, what was the group if you don't mind me asking?
It's really just called "Club SEGA".
Aaaah, the old extended intro, you should revisit it every now and then!
Heh, the literal School of Sega! XD
Dragon Crystal looks adorable. I hope you went back to it and enjoyed it by now. I am going to try it out myself very soon. The unique exploration mechanic you put on display has my interest piqued.
What was that game you showed alongside Up'n Down? The one with some sort of 80s J-Pop girl on the poster. The little screenshots look genuinely interesting. Also, surprising to see that sort of ad from an Eastern publication of the time! :x
I don't know, I like to think that early home port sort of invented an adventure mode for an action game by throwing in those hidden scrolls. :0
Dragon Crystal is pretty simplistic but it's still a lot of fun.
+Christopher Blair i dunno why but it sticks in my mind all the time when talking about the ms
My man crush on you continues... lol lol
Another brilliant video man, presentation, facts, real retro appreciation and love. It's all there. Now go make more... Hehehehe x
MegatronsFury Ahhhhhhh megs, one day we will meet, and when that day comes... so will your man crush hahaha, thanks for the kind words buddy I'm glad ya like it :)
0:51 sounds like me when I was younger and everyone had a Wii
you know what.... thanks to my brutal cult like following of Sega - I too turned an entire school from Nintendo, into Sega nuts.... this only lasted until the PlayStation arrived years later....
I played both equally and I chewed out fan whores of either camp myself. However, on a side note, Taito also had a similar game called Ki Ki Kai Kai the same year as The Ninja/Princess Ninja/Sega Ninja was released. This game in turn, led to the Pocky and Rocky Trilogy, with the first two games playable for the SNES/Super Famicom/Wii/Wii U/3DS/2DS Virtual Console and the third game for the GBA, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS/2DS Virtual Console. Now with that being said, Princess Ninja/The Ninja/Sega Ninja whipped Commando's ass and I usually like Capcom games myself.
I had this game never could beat it either. I remember I called the 1800 number they used to have for sega tips and they would mail you a game guide. I got the guide still couldn't beat the game but it showed me alot of hidden scrolls if i remember correctly.
+nastycivilian Thats really interesting, I would love to see the guide if you still have it?
I wish I did but that has been gone for many years!
Oh cool! I've seen plenty of copies of The Ninja; but I never thought it was any good. Early Master System box art never really sold the game did they? There's a game on the Famicom Disc System that is very similar to this game called Nazo no Mursame Shiro, which Shigeru Miyamoto made between Zelda 1 and 2. I'll need to go and hunt this game down and play it for myself!
+Great Bit Blog yeah you should, its a great little game
I had this game on the master system. But it was titled Ninja Scroll.
Did you ever play "Black Belt" for Sega Master System? That game was unforgiving but it kept four year old me ridiculously entertained.
+TheRossMadness yeah i have actually, it was actually made by yuji naka too :)
I think that Black Belt was also ported to the NES/FDS as well.
nice
Well since I just started collecting SEGA stuff... to me THE secret gem I got so far when filling up budget gaps with cheap ebay deals was Aztec Adventure.... that game is actually extremely good and I rarely see people talking about it '_'
Leave it to me ;)
DesRoin I borrowed that game from a friend for the MS as a kid. If I remember that game was hard as hell.
actually 03:10 that part on the video remind me a game for the nes where some japanese farmer fight against ninjas.... who is it called?
Ikki. It came out in the arcades the same year as Commando and Ninja Princess, 1985. All three of them are way predated by Taito's "Front Line" from 1982.
Marc Campbell yep, you're right... that one.
If it doesn't have to be about someone on-foot, Konami's "Strategy X" from 1981 is similar too.
sure, but it was just a simple memorie of someone running on a field shooting like it was a shump or something like that .... i never liked that taito soldier , moving his legs like a puppet XD
What I don’t like is that sega’s early games are all super rare and obscure. A good example is the game FlashGal, which to this day has never officially been ported to a home console despite looking like it would make a great master system port. So yeah, not even SEGA themselves knows the game exists anymore, and the only way to play the game outside the arcade is through MAME.(damned if you can even find an arcade with an OG FlashGal machine anyway.....)
The only system I'd really like to collect for, besides the Dreamcast, is the MasterSystem, but ever since the retro gaming boom the prices have become ridiculous.
The tune that starts at around 5:35 sounds a lot like this tune Tim Follin did on the C64. I think it was for Ghouls n Ghosts.
I cant remember im sorry lol, hopefully someone else can confirm
I actually found it! I wonder which one came first...?
/watch?v=j3a9IUBj8X0
Ghouls 'n Ghosts stage 2.
Maybe ninja princess will one day make it into supersmash brothers which in turn will probably get them to remake her game and maybe give her a few sequels
transylvanai 5600 Smash Bros is Nintendo focused, and the guest third party characters have to be "special cases" that changed the industry as a whole.
Sheik will have competition. ;)
Hell, they’re letting so many characters into super smash brothers that at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the car from Rally-X became a playable character.....
Ghouls 'n Ghosts level 2 music in 8bit?
my friend and I spent hours and hours and hours on this cheap priced master system gem
I always wanted to try The Ninja but I had no idea what the game was about apart from the poor box art. Seems cool although it's a shame Sega didn't keep the main character female.
+P Ferreira Yeah I wish they did too, quality little game. Hopefully, its not all nostalgia lol
Daniel Ibbertson Looks fun so don't think it's nostalgia.
:D
I have 2 different roms for ninja and the ninja for the master system the openings are different and one has different levels I grew up playing the ninja still have my original copy
Anybody else here because of 372 pages we’ll never get back?
Now I'm wondering if there's a hack that puts the Princess into the SMS version.
I doubt it, but I would love for this to be true :D
Daniel Ibbertson
I recently discovered this utility called Kided, witch is a really extensive modding tool for Alex Kidd. It's pretty awesome and made me want to see if there were more entry level rom hacking tools.
Disthron Ahhhhh nice! That has got my interest too lol
Daniel Ibbertson
Sorry, it was spelled "Kidded"
Why don't we make a ROM hack for the SMS version? :P
Consistently good vids, keep it up. when you hear there werent enough female characters in games, its interesting to know they actually did try em even way back then
Kendall Coombs GERL POWA!
Daniel Ibbertson basically, lol
Before Nintendo had their own ninja princess (albeit with a rather flawed execution that not even the remake bothered to fix), there was this game. If both princesses were to fight, who will win? ;)
This was a cute video.
Ninja Princess is so much cooler :P
Not to be argumentative, but did Gun.smoke not pre-date both the ninja and commando by a few months, making it the first run and gun?
You are correct.
this and psycho fox are the great hidden gems of the 8 bit era and hold up great
if those SJWs ever did game, they know about a game like ninja princess which was about an empowered woman who took saves the day alone
ahhhhhh yes psycho fox is ace
Isn't Psycho Fox one of the most well-known and popular platformers on the Master, though? Hardly seems "hidden" to me...
Yeah, but theyd probably throw a shitfit about having an attractive female protagonist because “objectification” and whatnot. (They’re just jealous because they’re ugly old hags.)
@@leroyvisiongames2294 that's not the focus of the game, don't be silly. They would only do that if she were whitewashed and bland in character.
When you bring up politics in a non-political video, aren't people of your ilk the main people who whine about these kind of things? Also, everyone games. It's a hobby. What are you, 12?
Does anyone know how I can play this game? I can't find any emulators, arcade machines, nothing.
You should be able to find it on name tbf
@@slopesgameroom Alright, thanks a lot for the help!
Colecovision was the best pre nes system out there.
i had the ninja on master system, all i remember is it absolutely destroyed me i remembered the name and thought it would be impossible to find because of how generic it was
Yeah same as for me honestly, the game was really hard. Going back, its still hard, but a lot more enjoyable
I love her design but there is one problem with these games.
They are similar to Space shooters and Isometric shooters.
Which are genres I really don't like sadly :(.
Who else is here because of ready player two?
Man i sucked at this game but my cousin was good at it
+Derrick Shepard Cheers for commenting mate
Too bad that in America you can't even have "Princess" in the title, nevermind as the playable character...
Hey what's up Daniel!
I would like to have her as my guest unlockable fighting characters in my awesome fighting games
Oh! And Aska from TMNT: TOURNAMENT FIGHTERS. Yes, really! 👍
Nintendo didn't really utilize the European market in the 80's and 90's, thus leaving it for Sega to conquer. Unfortunately due to Nintendo's 3 party policies, the Master System never had a chance in North America despite having superior hardware to the NES and fantastic games.
+Jacob Prayer Couldnt agree more, check out my McDonalds part 2 episode I have an interview with a nes guy that goes into detail about how crazy of a stranglehold Nintendo had on developers back in the day
+Jacob Prayer It wasn't just that but Sega shot themselves in the foot by not letting any 3rd party developers make games for it and they did want to in America.
It seems crazy these days that anyone would not court 3rd party devs and to be honest it was back then. You think Sega would've seen the Atari/Activision mess and learned from it.
+Gambit771 Nintendo probably would have snapped up any new developers coming onto the video game scene.
+P Ferreira they would definitely have tried but devs and publishers were also trying to get away from Ninty, well really to publish elsewhere as well.
After all they're in it to make money and Nintendo was where it was in America
Gambit771 Yep, a crying shame more developers didn't get to work on SMS.
So does anyone else wanna put their fist thru their screen every time you see a Hillary or trump add every time you watch a video?
for me its been the same google advert for about 2 months... "I SAY DANCE, YOU SAY DARNCE.... I SAY FRANCE, YOU SAY FRARNCE"
Phantasy Star 1 has better music. Thumbs down for your petulance.
Trying to look up all the games in the Sega Ages intro cameos that I’ve never had the chance to play. This looked like fun to play for sure
