- It’s the Insomniac 25th Anniversary!! So we wanted to do something special, so here is the biggest glimpse ever into the Insomniac era tours from 1995-96. Never before seen footage from Europe 95 tour and Live concert in Prague shot on 16mm film in Europe 1996 with the fateful last shows on tour before returning home to go back into the studio for Nimrod album sessions. Enjoy! Time to celebrate Insomniac 25th and bust out the champagne and caviar 😂
We’re celebrating by releasing a double LP pressed on translucent orange vinyl and includes the cover art printed on prismatic silver foil. LP 1 is a remastered version of the album. LP 2 includes live tracks from the legendary 1996 Prague show on the A Side along with an etching on the B Side. Just note, due to COVID-19 production delays, vinyl will not ship until early 2021. warnerr.ec/gdstore
We also brought back some classic Insomniac era merch designs for you. Get ‘em in the webstore now warnerr.ec/gdstore
We’re partnering with Punk Rock & Paintbrushes to sell a limited edition Insomniac archival giclee print. Only 500 will be available at $100 each (20”x20” on 320 gsm cold press paper w/ deckled edges). Every print is signed and numbered by Winston Smith (the artist who designed the Insomniac cover).
All proceeds will benefit the Alameda County Community Food Bank.

There's no better feeling than Green Day nostalgia 🤟🏻
True I guess hahaha
So true👍😍
Maybe Ramones but stop counting
Yeah after hearing their new album I believe they have jumped the shark!!
even if you weren't alive at the time lol
this album is criminally underrated
I was so young, like maybe eleven when they came out. Huge green day fan since I was a little kid, my uncle gave me this album for one of my birthdays when it had also come out. Right now, my uncle is in surgery, that very same uncle. Be rad if everyone could send him their good vibes. 💚
UPDATE: Thank you to every single one of you for wishing him well. It got me emotional, knowing that my favorite band's fan base is so caring and amazing. We are a family, brought together by "God's favorite band."
My uncle is doing okay and recovering. He has had a few heart surgeries this past summer. My family is really hoping he pulls through, finally. It's been a rough fight for him. Again, Thank you, everyone, for the support and care you've shown for him. 💚🙏
Sending good vibes your uncle's way ,and your way, and all the green day fans' way
Hope the surgery goes well
Bless him. Sending good vibes and may he recovers quick ❤
I hope for the best for your uncle !
I hope everything goes okay
My opinion: Greatest. Album. Ever.
Glad to see this album being celebrated on its 25th anniversary. Has been my favorite album (by any band) for nearly 25 years now!!
Ya it’s pretty good. It’s so underrated
@@allieb.1006 Very under-rated and overlooked. The guitar tones, the bass and the drums, the anger and snottiness in the vocals...... everything about it is perfect to me.
By no stretch, greatest but epic.
@@kinjaldas225 haha, hence the "my opinion" part ;)
Dude honestly makes me so happy to see someone else thinks this
i remember reading an article in kerrang magazine around April 1996 about how Green Day had brought someone along on the Insomniac tour, to document it all and release it as an official tour video. Nothing ever came of it. I think, because they had to cancel the last part of their european tour due to panic attacks and exhaustion.
At the time (APRIL 96) I was 15 and so excited to see this footage. Fast forward 24 and a half years to now. I'm 40 and even more excited to see this. I will always love this band. They were my first show I ever went to. London Brixton Academy 20th September 1995.
link to that show is in the replies to this comment. Amazing memories. They were like superheroes to me back then.
How was it? Did they seem tired or did they have a lot of energy and grit like when I've seen them?
@@psmyerdad czcams.com/video/1riNrSA9JQ0/video.html They were brilliant.
@@psmyerdad that day was my 13th birthday haha 38 now... Green Day nostalgia is the best !!! Saw them for the first time in 1998 at Buenos Aires, Argentina
@@bluestar8434 That's so cool. I tried to get to some of their 98 shows a bit early to experience this, but was never around at the right time.
That show is on CZcams. What an amazing show you got to go to

Thank you!
I'm kinda new to Green Day and I needed this!
thanks mate!
🤘🤘👏👏👏
Ahh, Green Day's angriest album. Great footage
That’s what I love about it - it’s the angriest of them all.
This is my favorite of their albums. So nostalgic.
I love it. This whole album is so pessimistic and BLEAK. Panic Song particularly.
My favourite GD album by a long way
probability the best fucking album that they ever put out. i used to listen to the entire thing and it would flow so well together.
Dookie is the best ;)
Probably my favourite album of all time!
THANK YOU
Its definetly my favourite for sure!!!!!
I do think I prefer it to Dookie
me yelling "LOOKING FOR A CHEAP ESCAPE, ON THE BRINK OF-" and they cut the music
I feel this comment
So relatable
ME TOO
The best part of panic song
Argh
If they pulled it out of nowhere, imagine what other footage they have in store. It's amazing.
I agree! I’d like to see a documentary about the Nimrod tour and see what songs they performed then.
In my head, Green Day always plays as fast as they played during the Insomniac tour
The camcorder footage between songs is REALLY interesting cos it basically shows the Euro '96 tour breaking down. You can hear in the video they got to the venue in Germany and it was a total mess and not ready for them to set up. As far as I can work out that German show they were trying to salvage didn't go ahead, they went home and cancelled the rest of the dates, making this Prague show (March 26th) actually the last full gig they did for a long while.
I remember I was so sad when that tour got cancelled. I was psyched to a crazed level for the Brixton show, counting down the days. Cutting the tour short also messed things up for The Mr T Experience (Who were supporting. Do yourself a favour if you love this era of Green Day and give Mr T Experience a listen if you dont already know them).
Green Day didn't play again for a year and a half, the next show was a weird one-off date in Tokyo a couple of months before the Nimrod tour started (July 25th '97). They were kind of a different band by that point IMO. Some part of that energy was gone and never fully returned.
It's probably a good thing they cancelled the tour for their own sanity. If they took a year off, I can't imagine how long they would have had off if they'd actually finished all the dates and got properly insanely miserable and Jaded. I have a Guitar World interview from early '97 with BJ where he says it had gotten to the point where the plan was to not tour anymore, just record and do the occasional date. Be interesting to see what that would have been like somewhere in an alternate universe...
Agree with the different band thing - the energy of the Dookie/Insomniac shows and music was just something else, I suppose it was unsustainable
I think the change was beneficial honestly. I love Nimrod just as much as this one !
@@TheLarryburns84 Interesting! I can't get on with Nimrod. I liked it at the time but Warning alienated me so bad that it put me off Nimrod. I come back to it every few years trying to force myself to like it, but I struggle. I like worry rock, take back and few of the b sides like suffocate, you lied, rotting. But to me the whole thing reeks of BJ desperately trying to get taken more seriously as a songwriter, which I don't understand cos the best songs from Dookie and Insomniac are literally genius-level songwriting. Each to their own
@@danny355 With American idiot they started to take themselves a bit too seriously I think.
"Yeahhhh weiners, weiners!" - Tre Cool, 1996
One of my favorite green day albums! New fan, been listening to them for only two years. They're absolutely my top band of all time. Their energy live is so insane and they're just so tight! Reading people's comment of their memory about this tour makes me wish I can see them one day. They only ever come to my country once in '96. Anyways Happy 25th birthday Insomniac!
Welcome to our family
Imsomniac best album green day
I want an official documentary - I know they’ve put out some stuff. The early years and turn it around were great. But a real honest to God documentary about EVERYTHING!! Explore what they were thinking and doing in the studio for each album, for every tour. Special events like Woodstock and the numerous award shows. That’s what I’d love to see!!! Because this 20 minute video was fantastic!!!! And I WANT MORE!!!
This tour was my first ever rock concert. A memory I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you Green Day and never stop rocking! 🤘
Panic Song is my song from Insomniac ever since I listened to it. I've never actually had a panic attack, but I don't need to to want to jump out when I feel lost... the world is STILL a sick machine.
For some reason Billie refuses to play it live
They don’t play it live because of how hard the intro is for Mike and Tre. Apparently both of their hands started bleeding while recording the studio version
I’d be surprised if it really killed Trè that bad. He had crazy stamina in ‘94/95. Mike though, I’d believe it. That’s a long ass time to play that note so quickly
Yeah, I think I heard him say it was difficult to play... it's a shame :( I don't want them to be in pain, I just think they can pull it off though
@@neverafrown6308 It caused tre to fall against a doorway from dizziness and mike to rip off his calluses causing his fingers to bleed all over.
One of the reasons why they don’t play it live it’s Mike’s carpal tunnel
Here before it blows up
Hipster
The video we didn’t ask for but we all needed
Jaded in Chicago full version would be nicer.
I agree
For real.

INSOMNIAC FOR LIFE
the album that never got the recognition it deserved
Hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
The opening to Panic Song is EVERYTHINGGGG
The fact that they remembered that they once released an album like Insomniac made my day
The drum sound on that opening track is amazing.
I was there! Sport hall Prague. I still have a ticket:) I was 16years old. I remember it was so loud and fast. My ears were burning:) It was a great time of my life:)
that is so awesome.
I love Insomniac and all, but I want something like this for the Nimrod anniversary celebration.
Dude yesd
Nimrods my favorite album by them
Same
Yeah in a couple years that'll happen. Be patient.
OMG, Yes!
I still feel the same love for Stuck with me like when I've heard it for the very first time in 1995.
this album heals your soul. feels like going into the woods and screaming for an hour
thank you
So bittersweet to me. I had my ticket for the Montpellier, France show on April 10th 1996 when the end of the tour was cancelled, and never rescheduled. How I hope I could have seen Green Day in 96. Seeing footage like this makes me think of how great it would have been! Of course, I totally understand why the band cancelled and I'm fine with it.
I was told that, when Green Day played Nîmes (in the same area) some 17 years later, Billie Joe came to Montpellier and went shopping for some records at a local store that day. There's an autographed Green Day record in the window there. Billie Joe, if you're reading this, I hope I get to say hello to you in person one day :)
still listen to this album religiously everyday😾😾
Hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
Just awesome. Can’t believe it’s been 25 years! I still remember it like yesterday!
It was just awesome to go on a Green Day landmark tour this year and see where the guys come from that influenced my whole life
That is awesome! What were some of the landmarks you visited?
@@johnhilton529 I´ve been to:
original locations of the Studios where they recorded „1000 hours“, „Slappy“,
„39/smooth“, „Kerplunk!“ (these places don't exist anymore)

location where „Warning“ Cover was shot

Broken Guitars (co-owned by Billie Joe)
Rodeo, Hometown of Bille Joe
Pinole Valley High, High School of Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt

I was in 6th grade and this was the first green day tour I ever saw.
Woww guys in 2020 we have seen the green day of 1996 very beloved memories
i thought panic song was being played live in the beginning and i got excited
Way too hard 😂
way too taxing on the hand/wrist i think
How the hell have I spent at least five years without listening to this marvel?
That way of elbow strumming still rocks!!!
My Favorite Album Of Green Day.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
the best album eveer
This is there best album by far
Punkest sounding one too. Somehow people still treated it like Pinkerton.
So we’re just gonna ignore the guy having a seizure 19:00
Enzo Santilli likely
It's not ignored, there's clear footage of it in the video.
Saw them 1996 Melbourne, Australia for this tour . Great show !
This is so incredible. This Prague show has been sought after for years. Now they're releasing reissued old T-shirts, prints of the original artwork, and a limited pressing vinyl. I'm so excited.
this video was really beautiful, it made me too happy
My favorite album of all time. We needed this.

They played with such a fierce drive, we need this in 2020

1:28 - Billie Joe's shirt has the name Perry on it. This is the same name used for his character in the film Ordinary World.
He's secretly an Aerosmith fan who shreds, that's why he constantly plays snippets of hard rock live= Legend.
Joe Permenter I don’t get it

One of the best albums in rock and roll history. 30 plus minutes of straight ahead in your face punk rock
I love this album.
This album was my first exposure to Green Day 20 years ago. I was standing in a shop and trying to choose between two albums on casette. One was some album by Rancid and the other was Green Day's Insomniac. I chose well. ;)
If it was «... and out come the wolves» you wouldn't had made a bad decision neither :p
Hope you eventually got " let's go " and " ..... and out come the wolves "

Rancid and Green Day it's a killer combo always

I don't think I've EVER seen Insomniac era footage, which I would've killed for in high school considering this album perfectly captured my anguish and isolation through it... these are all such gems!
...tho not as many gems as the crystal meth they had to have hit before going on stage for this show 😂😂 jesus christ it's a miracle they look as good as they do now for what they put themselves through lmao.
