This is the kind of new content that’s sorely lacking “these days.” Everyone talks about how MTV doesn’t play videos anymore, but they also don’t show legitimate news content, either, which is what really made MTV a one stop shop for all things music. It was a place you could get a popular music education. Turn it on. Leave it on.
Vividly remember watching this as a kid and thrilled that you archived it. My personal favorite Greenday album. Faster, angrier but still grounded in the Lookout! framework, just with more polish and significantly more sales. Thankfully, Larry Livermore didn’t oversee royalties on it either.
DUDE!!! I literally have been searching for this for years. I remember being glued to MTV When I first got into Green Day. I couldn't wait for the new album to come out. It was the first time, I was a huge Green Day fan and they had a new record coming out. Aweosme post man!!!
Maaaaan, I remember MTV teeing this segment up with a commercial that I think kind of leaned into people hating the album. Absolutely wild that you archived this and it still exists. I truly miss music journalism on this scale that had such access, production value and fun to it. What a loss at how devalued MTV News became and now, no longer exists.
Haha the Columbia University kids basically trashed them.. this was the start of the run of it was cool to hate Green Day years for a while. DOOKIE was the biggest thing in the world, then INSOMNIAC hit and it was like everyone "grew up" or something and wouldn't admit to liking green day. It was the weirdest thing

Insomniac is my favorite album of GREENDAY. Bought it on cassette during winter break for my first WALKMAN.

All songs on Insomniac are awesome and it’s so cool to see a bag of copies of it on cassette
