The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This is my father's family. (My dad is the youngest of the group, little angelo.) Thanks for sharing this
That’s awesome, it’s so cool to have a piece of history in your genetics
YEESH!!!!
The Primo Family was from Detroit, Michigan, and some combination of them had been performing together since 1961, singing in church pageants, car shows, and community theatre, most notably "The Sound Of Music," in which 7 of the kids and father Angelo all had parts. In 1969, the Primo Family appeared on Ed Sullivan in May, the David Frost Show in August, and the Dennis Wholey Show in September. The Ed Sullivan appearance put them in high demand, mostly around Detroit and Windsor. Comparisons to the Cowsills and Partridge Family existed, with the Windsor star proclaiming them "the hottest new group to come upon the pop scene since the Cowsills," and the Tampa Bay Times referring to them as "Partridge-like." Two of the brothers quit in 1972. In the same year, the Primo Family auditioned to tour supporting Liberace, unsuccessfully. In 1974, it was rumored that the family was retiring from show business, but Angelo Primo claimed that they were only taking a break to build a new show around their single. However, by Aug. 1975, Angelo and Angela Primo (of "the former large Primo Family group") were performing as a duet act, billing themselves as Primo People.
Thanks for the info! Very interesting
They are really good you can see they put a lot of work into this great job
WOW!! Greatness!!
Fascinating to see acts who were trying to capture the magic of the Cowsills back in the day. Although this may have fell a bit short, it was a fun video.
Little Angelo dressed in shorts looks a lot like a boy version of Susan Cowsill -- albeit without Susan's great voice.
Still remeber way back Peter Paul & Mary 1967 I DIG ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC.
Gotta love the historical aspect of this. You have some amazing acts and then occasionally you get a palate cleanser like this. Reminds me of drinking a PBR on occasion to remind myself of what bad beer is like.
This makes The Cowsills look like The Velvet Underground
Makes me appreciate how good The Cowsills were.
True... and the haunting rendition Barbara Cowsill did of "the Cruel War" was revolutionary! To think a middle aged mother getting on Ed Sullivan and singing an anti war song, nothing like THAT had been seen from a woman like her.
The Cowsills were very talented and could have had more hits.
lol the kid is attempting the Moon Walk at 01:58! I wonder if MJ saw this and was inspired?
English dancer and singer Jeffrey Daniel invented the moon walk. He was a member of the pop/soul group Shalamar. He taught it to Michael Jackson.
-Песня Огонь!
Running time was 5:55. Never has 6 minutes seemed sooooo looooong.
Little Angelo is just fabulous
That's my father 🙂
I was around at the tail end of Ed’s run so no memory. So you think it was all Beatles Stones and other Rock acts of the time based on the clips . But I’m reality Sullivan was a must see Sunday Night Family Affair so yeah this was what the adults could handle as far as “Rock” goes. Nice time capsule
Oh my.
I guess they thought Sergio Mendes wrote Fool on the Hill
Girls were well rehearsed and vibrant. The little boy or brothers didn’t compare to Osmonds or Cowsills so high the bar was set.
I've been sad that you aren't posting as much on this channel as I look forward to see what you post throughout the day. I hope you will increase your posts again soon! The set for this act looks like the same one they used the following year for Tiny Tim and the Enchanted Forest when they performed "Earth Angel".
I agree with you. I don't know why things are going the way they are, but I hope there's a change on the horizon! Thank you for being so encouraging. I think alot of people have the same thoughts as you! Thank you for sharing! 💖
@@that70sgirl90 Hopefully they will go back to their old posting schedule eventually. I hope everything is all right. I've been disappointed by the lack of postings. The Ed Sullivan channel is a big part of my life, and often brings me a lot of joy. On another note, it's such a beautiful day today. Went for a walk to the thrift store and bought some presents for others. :)
@@TomElvisSmith I know how much you enjoy this channel, and I know you look forward to the posts. I would always take a break around the times they would post. Yesterday I wasn't even on during the day. Went to lunch with my neighbor and her friends for the first time in two years. Afterwards we went back to her house for cake and coffee. We ended up talking the day away! We had a splendid day!! Today I had all my work to do.I couldn't go out and play today! I wanted to go for a walk so bad. I was going to go grocery shopping tonight, but I ditched that idea and went to park to walk. This is my favorite time of the year. The rebirth of nature. Days like today... I feel like I'm walking on Sunshine... and it sure feels good! That is so Beautiful... that you bought gifts for others. If is far better to give, than to receive! Have a Pleasant and Peaceful Evening! Thank you for sharing! 💖
@@that70sgirl90 You're welcome! I'm so glad you had such a great day yesterday with your friend! I agree, Spring is a really beautiful time of year, I love it too!
And the only hit on the internet was of this show. I was dying to know what label signed them🤣
Can I tell you man I dig the jazz ending of The Rock and roll Nick song. Now turn right he doesn't really have the Oliver song Oliver
Last song reminds me of brizal 66
After having nine kids the mother was to tired to perform with the band.
😂
You know if he hadn't spent so much time listening to the movie version of Oliver he can probably sing it in tune a lot better
It’s interesting at the very least
King family,Osmonds,Jackson's..etc
This almost makes me like reggaeton!
Never heard of them ... I will be forget soon.
🤯
Why not!?
The girls sang very prettily and have some stage appeal. It's the little boy who as a lead, for me deflates the act. But it is refreshing to see a family act that ran against the grain of the loud, hyped, ugly noise of late 60s pop rock.
You mean besides the Cowsills?
@@davidcoyle1084 The Cowsills were great, this shower is a different matter.
OMG...reminds me of the Brady Bunch variety hour. Eek!
Fool On The Hill played as a peppy show tune. Oy!
Well that’s uncomfortable & odd 🤣
Forget about Dana’s drums. Mamma Primo was the only thing getting banged.
A smaller version of the King Family ......
The King Family had some good pipes. I’ll give this group credit though they enjoyed themselves.
Defranco family
There is no truth to the rumor that the little guy grew up to be Iggy Pop.
Wow..an Itialian-American version of the Jackson-5 ! As Rodney Dangerfield once said.."Primo that's Italian ain't it ?...Stick to the tumbling..."
LITTLE OLIVER
Ed must have owed some management company a BIG favor. for once I'd rather listen to Topo Gigio
Me too! 🍀 Bartender let's have another round! 🍻 😄
@@that70sgirl90 make mine a double
@@recordguy4321 One scotch, one bourbon, and one beer! As Goerge Thorogood sang it! 🥃🥃🍺😄
Catholics 😊
They spent all of their time practicing and rehearsing, these kids had no childhood. They were children and worked their tails off all of the time. Have some respect you nasty people. This was back in the SIXTIES. The youngest of them all was a mere 7 YEARS OLD. You're berating a child, that's disgusting.
The instrumentation was cool, and the ladies sounded really tight with the harmonies, but the corny energy makes me sad
Ed was a talent show.....mostly
Terrible doesn’t begin to describe the pain the measure of pain I feel watching this vocal horror show !
It was a brief fad based more on cuteness than the music.
That kid couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.
I doubt he ever had the decision to be a singer
That is a very hard song to sing. You try it.
He was 7 years old at the time. Have some grace.
This is about the worst performance that could ever have been put on television. Absolutely horrific.
Dreadful
Truly awful😣
Nice family, but it's a "no" from me.
The set background was cool though! 😎 Thank you for sharing! 💖
The fact that they even got booked on Sullivan, they must have had some connection, or Ed took pity on them.
The Brady Bunch was better than this bunch.
Did these people even have a chart hit? This is really cringe inducingly awful 😖
Sorry eight kids
Cringeworthy 😬
🤔..is this a kind of very bad and cruel impersonating of "The Partrigde Family" on the wrong channel?! ...what happened here?! Well, i know 👽 are flooting our flat Earth🤣
Sorry Harald, but I Loved the "Partridge Family!" I'm sorry to say, they don't even come close! 😒
@@that70sgirl90 Hey, sorry dear but it comes to my mind...sorry 😌 i don't like to hurt anybodys feelings...no way! I've refreshed my post
@@haraldtrittner4396 You're not hurting my feelings! It's your opinion, kindly stated! 💖

Yeah….no.
I'll take a pass on this performance. 🤦♀️
