I started wearing wigs more regularly after an African American male told me something negative about my hair. A problem I never had in Jamaica. I had an encounter with the Lord and then from that time. I never wore them again. I don’t condemn anyone because people wear wigs for various reasons. As for me. I do what makes me feel comfortable and I know I’m accepted by the most high just as I am and anything else would be saying that he didn’t do a good job

I love wigs but I never understood why so many black women don’t wear the texture of their hair. Like it would be nice if we would wear our texture and not a different texture. No one would know if you have a wig/extensions if it matches your texture. I personally like braids more anyway. Anyway nice video and Afro hair really is beautiful I’ve been growing mine out for two years now.
I find wigs to be really uncomfortable on my head now lol but wore them for YEARS with no problem. I usually do braids, twists, natural or yaki textured clip ins now.
So true we look so odd with silk press hair no mater how straight the silk press is that's when it looks even more odd we look so gorgeous with our natural hair
I stopped wearing them because it's a public display of self-hatred, whether Black women want to accept that or not. It's not our fault we feel obligated to wear them due to Eurocentric beauty standards, but eventually we have to reject those standards and accept ourselves. If we wear wigs for a different style, they should be similar to our natural hair texture & look believable; they shouldn't be bone straight, like Asian hair.
Why give a fuck about standards that obviously are not yours? It must be brainwasging to so greatly overpower basic reasoning. Also consider thst black men don't do any of this crap to ourselves. We tried perms and jerry colojrs. Decided that's too much work and chemicals and went back to our own hairstyles.
Agree. A bone straight wig or hairstyle on occasion as an accessory like jewelry or more accented make-up is one thing. Wearing another person's, (or animal's) hair, or synthetic hair as a woefully lacking representation of what is meant to be one's natural crowning glory on a daily basis is a testament to the ugliness; and the lingering pain, evil has visited upon the hearts, minds, and Spirit of God's beautifully created, and gloriously melanin rich women. Like my black as the night grandmother, and great-grandmother, and their grandmothers before them. The breath of life.
A display of self hatred? Jesus are your knees okay from jumping to conclusions? I wear wigs to grow my hair from a bad self cut and bc the amount of time and money it takes to get my hair to look good i could just as easily plop a wig on and go. Its refreshing. This weird bs has to stop. Just bc you couldnt afford wigs or you have low self esteem dont project on others. Also not all black women are born with this 4c hair. In regards to dating, I rarely see quality men dating women with wigs. Your confidence in your natural beauty really elevates you in a way that can’t be bought!
I stopped wearing wigs Sept this year embracing my natural beauty in all forms i stopped wearing lashes too as apart of a growth journey i love it i feel so free
Thanks for sharing your story, very inspiring! I stopped wearing wigs when I realised that I want my hair to look realistic, and there’s no point buying wigs that look like 4c hair when I can grow it myself. I love my natural hair. I’m so glad I took that step.
For me I like blow dried hair. If I leave it in its natural state, I can’t manipulate it much, it shrinks/ causes knots and it takes very long to detangle. I love wearing an afro tho and watching ppl go 😯😂😂😂😂😂
I fully support you sis. You are very beautiful. Keep talking about how your self worth is growing as you embrace your whole self!. Good for you. Thanks for being a light in the world.
So proud of you for this. I used to feel the same way except I flat ironed my hair for years. I came to the conclusion that my natural hair that God gave me should not be something I'm ashamed of, need to hide or wear in a certain way for others liking. If people can't accept the hair that grows from my scalp, then they are not the people for me. You're beautiful girl keep going!
The things we have to do for beauty is ridiculous. I understand and have felt so much of what you described. Thank you for being vulnerable about your experiences.
The thing you have to, not everyone woman, cause not everyone woman is chasing attention, some of us is just about good health and that is good enough.
Wigs feel hot and itchy. I also don’t like how children and women are exploited for human hair. Finally, I think my real hair is superior, hands down. It’s easy (locs), beautiful, and matches my skin texture (black women have thicker skin, and it’s a different texture from white and Asian women). Silky straight hair does not look natural on most of us.
All humans have the about the same texture. It certainly does NOT change on thickness based on race. This is absolutely false and is one of the leading causes as to why doctors do not believe Black women when we say we are in pain - we are perceived to have “thicker skin” that makes us less prone to pain - this is not true and is a legacy of medical racism!
@@IndigenousExotical lmao. Never said we experience less pain. I’m well aware of that misconception. Different ethnicities do have different skin texture. It’s subtle but observable. Nothing to be ashamed of. I love my skin. My skin texture is a benefit. I’m over 40 have great skin!
I understand how you feel. I currently have a relaxer in my hair and I will admit that I am lazy 😩. If I wore my natural hair I would probably wear it like the woman in this video but shorter. Yes it’s true I’m lazy and vain. I’ve asked God to forgive me. I’m a creature of habit.
Your hair is gorgeous. I've never been a huge wig wearer and it can be difficult for the younger generations because of social media. Maybe about 10 years ago I stop even liking straight hair on me. I only like curly, locs, my natural hair, crochet, and when I do wigs it is for like one day because I was in the middle of deep conditioning and had to go somewhere. I keep a curly wig though but I always cut the part and lace and crochet my parts. I never got into the lace closure etc. My biggest thing is just ensure you are taking care of your own hair no matter what you do. I see way too many women without edges and hair these days. Some is heredity but much of it is not.
You are so beautiful 💗 Sorry that misogynoir drove you to wear wigs exclusively, but I’m glad you’re wearing it natural again. The potential damage to your hair and scalp, and the financial consequences, are just not worth wearing wigs. People make fun of black women for wearing our natural hair, but they ridicule black women even more for wearing wigs - and laugh when they fall of or someone snatches them off, etc. We will never win in the eyes of people who are committed to hating & degrading us, so choose your health, wealth, and ease instead. Caring for our natural hair will preserve our health, preserve our wealth, and is much easier (saving time and energy). Protect your peace BW 💖
You are definitely inspiring and motivating just by doing this video alone! Yes we have been brain washed to think straight hair is the greatest thing on earth 🙄
I totally agree, I spent my whole 12 years of schooling in a buzzcut as a female because natural hair is considered not really neat and you won't look that great unless you actually relax your hair and I didn't feel like myself when i did that, but my second year of college changed a lot of things and I started going to school with my natural short afro. Great video, i think more black women should learn to love their afro when its not blown out and be comfortable walking around with it.
For me and other black women its about LAZINESS. SISTAHS need to admit THE TRUTH WE ARE TOO LAZY TO DO THE WORK. As black women we are OVERWORKED. Most has kids, 2 jobs, schools, long hours, running households . We simply dont have the time to care for our natural hair, or if we do have time we are too Lazy. Black hair takes more TIME AND EFFORT, IT NEEDS MORE TLC. I have learned to STOP BEING LAZY AND GIVE MY HAIR MORE TLC. I wake up an hour earlier just to care for my hair. It has paid off from ear length to midback length. Haircare needs to be an EVERYDAY COMMITMENT like bathing and dental. We have to treat it as JUST AS IMPORTANT JUST AS SPECIAL AS THE WEAVE we put in our hair.
Overworked and Lazy seem strange in the same sentence. I don’t believe you can be both. It’s either one or the other. Overworked and tired af or burnout makes more sense.
It takes me very little time to wash, condition and moisturize my hair because I'm not trying to stretch it out or make it look wavy or less kinky. Folks are going to see every single kink I have on my head, and know that I am proud. There was a time that I was busy trying to make it look a certain way, and it caused me to go back to a relaxer. Never again! As it gets longer I will rock simple braided or kinky styles. Once you accept you natural texture, people who may call it nappy or slave looking just look lost in self hate to you..
Same. I work a full time job and sometimes do overtime and I wash, detangle, and braid my hair on my days off. I keep it braided throughout the week and I take it down every Friday. After I get off work, I moisturize my hair but I keep it braided. It only takes a few minutes to moisturize it. I work from home as well so it makes it much easier to dedicate more time to my hair. I started off with a big chop and now my hair is mid back length as well.
I have locs and people use to make fun of my loc in the beginning. I just kmt and went about my business. If you don't like my hair, that's a you problem. Now that my locs is butt length, everyone did a 180 and love it now 🙄🙄
They are itchy and I have a fear it will get pulled off or blown away😂. It’s just uncomfortable. That being said I have 2 of em but don’t wear them 🤷🏾♀️ I rather get braids or go natural
I am so freaking proud of you!!!! These are my exact thoughts. We say we wear wigs for versatility, but why do they have to be bone straight wigs. I understand that for a long time, textured wigs weren’t accessible or affordable, but now they are. So, why do we still prefer silky wigs for occasions? We aren’t telling ourselves the truth and It’s just sad🥲
Your natural hair is absolutely beautiful as are you. You are right that we need to stop the dependence on these wigs. It's psychollically damaging. Your words and courage will encourage others and bring about more togetherness in our uniqueness. Applaudes to you.
I wear wigs occasionally. However, my wigs match the texture and length of my own hair, so much so that people can't tell when I'm wearing a wig or my own hair. I like to give my own hair a rest or may have a bad day. I think that the dependenc on long straight hair is the problem.
It was never about "professionalism." 20 years ago the only afro wearing wonen were extremely professional black women. It's about "sexiness." Straight, long hair was seen as sexy. Women trying to look sexy for men
You look absolutely stunning . Your natural hair bring out your beautiful features and actually softens your features , making you look more feminine . You look absolutely professional 👏 ❤ peace , love and light
I wear them all, wigs, braids, weaves and anything else I want. But I also wear my natural hair out a lot in different forms, it’s natural state (wash n go’s), straightened, blown out or stretched. I think balance is really important, if I find I am doing braids/twists/faux locs for long then I may switch to wearing my wig, if I find I have tucked my hair away too long I wear my hair out for a few months to let it breath. Balance is important. And to anyone that says that box braids aren’t a protective style anymore, tell that to my bra length natural hair who spent 18 months wearing braids over and over, trimming in between which allowed my hair to grow out so much, I didn’t have to big chop when I heat damaged my hair, I just maintained length, had fast growth and my hair was healthy again in no time.
You are beautiful, and your hair looks amazing on you. I've been natural for years, and I'm now starting my loc hair journey today. I don't plan on wearing extensions on my hair. Best decision honestly
Agree with you 💯 I was depending on wigs wouldn't go anywhere with out this is how people are so out of touch of reality example when I where a wig everyone say your hair looks nice right mind it's not mind fake 'so I decided to wear my natural beautiful hair what God bless me with men like my hair more than woman honestly wigs when your working is was easy for me get up put on and go that's why I wore them how I decided to lock my hair so step by step getting there love and I everyone
I don’t wear weave wigs make up fake nails just because I am super happy with myself and love my freedom. The thing I hate the most is foundation. I can’t stand that thing
“Sir, sir.” So good of them to sort themselves out. They might have celebrated your overcoming, your breaking free, your victory. Your liberty. I do. ✨🕊✨
I'm natural too and I've been so for years now. But there was a period of time I had all those feelings you described and had to overcome them. Now I feel at my best when I look in the mirror and see me for me. Not a version of me I created based of of someone else's beauty standards. BTW your hair looks beautiful just like that.
I love this! My hair is shorter, but I wear mine in a similar fashion. This is a conversation most are not ready for. People look at me side-eyed with my hair natural and I don't care. The nerve. Some of us hate ourselves that much. I will do a kinky haired weave if I want it longer before I do a silky straight. There is nothing wrong with our hair as it comes out of our head. It doesn't even need stretching out. It will grow straight up if you leave it alone, and keep it moisturized and loved on.
I only wear kinky curly wigs that require leave out but I’m even challenging myself with that! I know I wear them because sometimes I feel like my natural hair density isn’t full enough, or my hair isn’t long enough to be “pretty” or better yet, “sexy”. But either way, wigs are fun but, very STRESSFUL for me. I’m very particular with my hairstyles but, I’m getting tired. Genuinely tired. I might loc my hair or just give the wigs a total rest. I love my hair and my scalp loves to breathe. I think it’s time for me to listen to it.
I enjoy videos on this topic. I’m a sew in or box braids sort of person and have no interest in wearing my hair out in it’s natural state. I admire people willing to take up this heavy workload and I like hearing different perspectives.
I rlly love this video because, as a gen z in this generation, i see lots of teens in this generation with there hair done with wigs, weaves, unstallers, and lashes and all these stuff, and if i was to see a natural black girl they have type c, b and just very curly form. I started to watch more people with my 4c hair, and embraced the beauty of self-love and feeling great with in, im only 16 years old and im still on the journey with more open mindess and im glad people like u make these videos because it inspired me more each and everyday
Congratulations sister, you finally realize the truth, that you are beautiful in your natural look, natural hair, very little, too no makeup. You look beautiful in your natural look. I like this video, thank you, and once again, congratulations on your beautiful natural look. Queen
I love my 4c thick natural hair❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉 I wear protective braids sometimes, that’s it!!! I love to touch and play in my hair!!!! None could convince me to hate this beautiful head of hair!!!❤😂🎉
I got relaxers until college. My hair started breaking off badly so I got a pixie cut. I switched to texturizers for a few years but once I had my daughter I was burned out on my hair, pregnancy was super tough and I basically did nothing to my hair from exhaustion for ten months. I started wearing wigs once I got off maternity leave. They were just cheap Amazon lace fronts. They were itchy and fake looking 😩. Yet gave me so much confidence and then I started working from home after Covid and have not worn wigs since. But now that my daughter is older and has more activities I’m looking to get some new ones. My mom shaves her 4c hair and only wears wigs. She doesn’t do hair and never taught me the ways 😢. Thank you for sharing your journey
Wearing wigs don’t do nun for us but make us look older.. And knowing our skin why would you want to look older. It’s black women 50+ who look damn good for their ages. Embrace your natural skin, natural hair, everything were born with❤️
So she just pretty much had a big burn out that’s why when I do wear wigs, I do not wear wigs at home. He gives me a sense of normality where I can appreciate my own hair.
When I went natural I got more attention from White men than Black men , go figure. Im loc’d now and I love it ! I love when I’m the only one in the room with loc’d hair, it’s like being one of a kind.
So many different experiences I remember I went through a period I didn’t want any guy approaching me I did my first big chop to a very low fade and was very surprised the objective was not achieved I had even more guys than usual trying to get to know me better I was so shocked I assumed I would be less attractive I then came to the conclusion it’s really not about our hair I had to laugh because I remember someone had told me maybe that I was only getting the attention I was getting because I wore weave that experienced changed a perspective within me number one someone else’s ideologies of someone else isn’t always true The truth can’t help but to shine And My outer appearance really can help with attraction but maybe it truly is my inner appearance that matters the most ❤✌🏾
As a lazy natural, natural hair acceptance and love are the first things I learned, since I hated weaves/wigs and the time and money that comes with all that😂 Twists and plaits are my go to’s everyday and wash days are monthly 😂
Your natural hair is more beautiful than any wig. You look fantastic. Some of us, like myself, have medical conditions where we have to do something to cover our heads, and we can only pray to be able to be able to wear our natural hair out one day. Jesus bless you.
I stopped wearing wigs because it was damaging my hair. I’m comfortable with my fro and my husband loves my fro. It’s just when I go out in public with it, I receive hate for it. I don’t get how something that is natural a part of me gets so much criticism. I do bodybuilding competitions and for my last one I had my fro out. I heard people make comments about some people not doing their hair. There is just so much pressure to hide my natural hair. Now, I just wear ponytails. Which can be fun to play around with the different styles and it’s less damaging than wigs.
Kudos to you, queen I’m glad you came back to the natural side me I never left because I’ve never ever wanted to have straight hair. I love my curly fine hair and I’m I’ve always loved Chihuahuas, who I am even still to this day. I love me more more because I did not wear wigs or weave to try to be something that I’m not, and that is not my hair even if I pay for it, still not mine, it didn’t grow out of my body
The tighter your curl the harder it is not to get your ends to snap! Our hair is so versatile, wigs can’t beat it and the priority should be growing healthy hair and loving it every step of the way.
I agree with your sentiments in this video! I don’t wear wigs because i’m allergic to the glue and all that bonding stuff to keep it laid down. PLUS, a wig is never that serious for me to want to alter myself to that extent just for esteem issues. I’m personally a straight hair natural but have no problem going out with a wash & go rocking my curls! Denial IS in fact the main issue here!
You are beautiful as God made you keep up the good work. I through away all my wigs now I braid my hair but I wanted to stop braiding my hair too the only thing I am worried about is I don't want it break off if I comb it often.
This wig dependency (for self esteem reasons) has to end. Type 4 hair is elegant and worthy!!
That’s hee that was insecure , couldn’t no man make me feel insecure about my hair. She was obviously wearing them becauw she wasn’t loving herself natural. Who said it’s about self esteem.?Not for most. I and many of those I know have long hair. It’s just easier to maintain.
Yes.
We all have insecurities. White women can have very thin hair genetically they don't feel any moral obligation to not wear clip ins or sews ins.

And there’s ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT
You are so pretty! Your curly fro is so adorable in a non-kidlike way. Looks very sweet and feminine.
Good on you!! You look so beautiful and youthful. I feel like wigs can make us look old
I noticed this too.
Outstanding video, yes you are a black woman and that is your real hair. Congratulations!
🙌🏽
First of all, you and your hair are beautiful 😍!!!!!!! How disgusting of those boys to yell “sir” at you!!!!
Just here to say I saw the title and didn’t care why you stopped but I’m glad you did!
I’d say more unintentional than lazy, because once you get the basics down it’s easy to grow long hair as a BW.
I don't really like our hair texture. It can be frustrating. It never does what I want it to do, especially when it comes to the styles I really want.
You are a beautiful young lady and your hair that grows out of your head is beautifully made!!
You're so naturally-beautiful...no need to manipulate your natural beauty❤
😊 thank you
I wear wigs occasionally.
Women trying to look sexy for men
And/or men subjugating women to their male gaze and preference
So true. It was a symbol of black female power and self determination. I’m my opinion it still is
Exactly. Look at Helen Willis from Jeffersons. Or Mae Jemmison the first BW astronaut.
KUDOS to you. Natural hair is always the best and most attractive for everyone.
You are spot on! I love your beautiful natural hair 😊
Thank you so much!
I like this conversation. I have my hair in its natural 4c state and I think that's the most authentic representation of who I am, fully embraced.
“Sir, sir.”
So good of them to sort themselves out.
It’s sad that we have to find a good enough reason to NOT wear wigs to satisfy people. Wigs are not the default. Our natural hair is!!
Your hair is BEAUTIFUL!!!❤ Thanks for making this video! The motive behind the wig is real!
Thank you so very much my sister. Our journey to greatness continues. Our natural hair is the royal crown and the envy of the rest of the world.
I understand your journey❤️ In the end do what makes you feel good. You don’t owe anyone anything🧚🏾♀️
Oh my darling, your afro is just so beautiful, the coils are soo pretty, won't be fair to hide them under a wig ❤
You just inspired me to wear my natural hair ❤ your hair is so beautiful we definitely need to learn how to appreciate 4b/4c hair more!!
Thank you for realizing your natural beauty and encouraging others to do the same. Have a blessed day. 😊
so much wisdom! thank you for this video
I enjoy videos on this topic. I’m a sew in or box braids sort of person and have no interest in wearing my hair out in it’s natural state. I admire people willing to take up this heavy workload and I like hearing different perspectives.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, I LOVE YOUR HAIR!
Thank you so much!!
Gorgeous. That is all! Thank you sharing!
I’m glad,,for the unapologetic embracing of your beauty.
I agree with you, and I think your hair is so gorgeous. You have thick coil/curly hair that looks very healthy. Plus, you have the cutest little nose.
Congratulations sister, you finally realize the truth, that you are beautiful in your natural look, natural hair, very little, too no makeup. You look beautiful in your natural look. I like this video, thank you, and once again, congratulations on your beautiful natural look. Queen
You look gorgeous with your natural hair!!!!! Beautiful young lady❤!!!
I'm sure you looked so pretty with short hair 🥺
Green beauty on CZcams is an amazing channel to start learning how to care for your hair and scalp❤
Wearing wigs don’t do nun for us but make us look older.. And knowing our skin why would you want to look older. It’s black women 50+ who look damn good for their ages. Embrace your natural skin, natural hair, everything were born with❤️
Some look like trannies with wigs and wigs age most women. I feel so sad for them
You are beautiful my black sister. Thanks for sharing this content.
Thank you ❤
Thank you so much for making this video 🩷
My pleasure 😊
You are beautiful sister and I have embrace my natural hair for 10 years. Stay strong 🤎
You are rocking mama, absolutely gorgeous😍😍
So she just pretty much had a big burn out that’s why when I do wear wigs, I do not wear wigs at home. He gives me a sense of normality where I can appreciate my own hair.
When I went natural I got more attention from White men than Black men , go figure. Im loc’d now and I love it ! I love when I’m the only one in the room with loc’d hair, it’s like being one of a kind.
Locs are great as well you can even get microlocs/sisterlocs which are really tiny locs
natural is the way to go ma! 💪🏽keep it that way 😍
I think this is a great message!
So many different experiences I remember I went through a period I didn’t want any guy approaching me I did my first big chop to a very low fade and was very surprised the objective was not achieved I had even more guys than usual trying to get to know me better I was so shocked I assumed I would be less attractive I then came to the conclusion it’s really not about our hair I had to laugh because I remember someone had told me maybe that I was only getting the attention I was getting because I wore weave that experienced changed a perspective within me number one someone else’s ideologies of someone else isn’t always true
The truth can’t help but to shine
And My outer appearance really can help with attraction but maybe it truly is my inner appearance that matters the most ❤✌🏾
As a lazy natural, natural hair acceptance and love are the first things I learned, since I hated weaves/wigs and the time and money that comes with all that😂
Twists and plaits are my go to’s everyday and wash days are monthly 😂
Your natural hair is more beautiful than any wig. You look fantastic. Some of us, like myself, have medical conditions where we have to do something to cover our heads, and we can only pray to be able to be able to wear our natural hair out one day. Jesus bless you.
I just want to say thank you so much for being a light to other brown girls to truly embrace their roots.
You hair is so beautiful girl omg😍
Girll you look beautiful with this hairstyle 😍😍
Your hair is beautiful and so healthy 💞
You are incredibly beautiful inside and out and I love your hair! It’s like mine naturally also ❤️
Love your makeup girl and your hairrrr❤️
Maybe a makeup tutorial soon?
Definitely!!
She is beautiful period, her features are too.
Your hair looks beautiful!
Some of us have to comply for our salary.
You are very refreshing!❤
The tighter your curl the harder it is not to get your ends to snap! Our hair is so versatile, wigs can’t beat it and the priority should be growing healthy hair and loving it every step of the way.
Your hair is beautiful I love it!
Thank you!!
Beautiful Queen, I wear my natural short pixie but I do relax it.
I love it!
