    @Morokiin Před 4 lety +24

    As a nerdy, science-minded guy, my friends and I came to the conclusion over a discussion back in highschool at lunch: Characters using this technique would use their Ki to produce a bright light from their body, thus burning the image of their last known position into their opponent's eye. This gave them the opportunity to use super-speed to move away. Nothing as intense as the Taiyo-Ken (Solar Flare), but enough to fool the eye. This is closest we came to explaining how this technique would actually work if you assume Ki and powers are real, but also account for real life science. I'm glad you included that bit in your video.

    The speed of the technique or the afterimage is like a wheel rotating so fast the eye cant follow a single spoke anymore and the wheel appears to go slowly backwards due to the limited amount of images the eye can differenciate per second... Thus when you move around at x times the speed of that you can gain x amount after images 🙂

    Especially seeing it performed int he early Dragon Ball fights with Roshi and Goku, etc., I took it as them not only moving incredibly fast to leave an after image, but returning to the same spot at random times, then speeding away again, which is why Goku could sit there animating sticking out his tongue and such with his image, and how they can appear in multiple spots using it at once.

  • @MakotoCamellia
    @MakotoCamellia Před 4 lety +1

    I'm no longer sure if it was explained in DB, but from what I recall, After Image is done by moving super fast, but slowing down at specific intervals so the opponents eyes catch on to the slow parts, and miss the speed up. This creates a brief image in the slow spot from the perspective of the opponent. If the user jumps into the same spots very quickly, those images can appear to last longer.

    What I think is relevant regarding this technique is that physics clearly works differently in the dragon universe. There have been videos made discussing at what point in the original DB heroes can be described as moving faster than light. While I think some of those videos exaggerate due to not understanding how the eye itself works, it's clearly something that can be done much more easily than in the real world. Once you're moving faster than light, optical illusions work differently. There's also the question (in Z, especially) if whether they can actually see each other or are merely sensing ki.

Would Goku be able to see Yamcha since hes stronger? That doesnt make sense though since this has to do with the eye and the signals that travel to the brain. Does getting stronger mean that your brain is faster? It's really confusing.

    If it uses ki to make the opponent believe it's still the user then it probably uses the same principle that with regular afterimage:
    1. Keeps Ki "On"
    2. Quickly turns it "Off" and moves to its desired new location.
    3. Increases Ki again to perform the attack.
    4. Profit!

    I feel like a really fast flash of light emitted from the body before quickly moving away temporarily burns the image of the user in the opponent's retinas is maybe what's happening there

    After Image technique explained how in a nut shell. The technique is all about speed relative to your opponents speed. The premise is the user moves so fast (faster than the speed of light) and therefore leaves a temporary image of themselves.
    Now if your opponent is really powerful and speedy themselves, they will be able to track the users movement and not by fooled by the after image.
    In theory if you are able to move faster than the speed of light, you could leave an after image as well lol.

    Better example of an irl afterimage is moving your hand back and forth till you see your hand is in 2 places at once

    my theory or thought is that using ki as a substitute for light to feed a false reflection of light into your opponents eyes thus creating an after image

    When I was younger and we had a CRT television. At night I could look up at the fan and see individual blades but the fan was on full speed. I could do the same thing with my hand by moving it really fast and it looks like I had four or five hands. Maybe the after image could be real in the correct lighting???

    The user could be [especially for the 3x and higher after images] "flashing" like a [1% solar flare] every time they stop, burning in the after image into the opponent's retinas [like watching 2 strobe lights or police beacons]

    You can’t do an after image in real life with your full body BUT you can do it with your hand... if you wave your hand ‘in a good bye’ motion at an extremely fast speed while looking at yourself in a mirror you will see an after image after you stop. But it is ever so minuscule. You have to keep an extremely close eye to notice it. Try it and drop your comment!

      To me i always think its all just based on speed. I mean metal cooler for some odd reason knows about that move but never learned it during he's real body fight with goku but he was able to keep up with goku in the instant transmission dimension space.

    I think that in dragon ball it was just them moving so fast that it tricked the opponents sense of sight and in z and after they left behind ki to also trick their opponents ki detection.
