Finally done with my Custom Ford Maverick Camper. Yes, the bed is only 4.5ft long. Yes, I can fully sleep in the back thanks to the half slide out bed feature. Very lightweight. Not really refined, but I think it turned out well.

I like this simple camper build brother. You mentioned it wasn't secure to the truck, but simple eyebolts, turnbuckles or ratchet straps can solve that, but you knew that already. That whole top is an emergency hatch, again something you knew already, lol!!! Adventure on my friend.
Way cool. Finally a truck camper with slide out that doesn't weigh too much. 😂
love this! Good job
I might build one too, with a full, fixed extension.
Looks great.
Fabulous build and design! Super creative! I hope the truck company doesn’t steal it from you haha I can imagine lots of people would buy a setup like this!
I thought this is going to be a joke, until I see that slide out part you built. Awesome man. You must be living in somewhere has no gnats or mosquitos because with all the gaps around the door and top, those critters definitely going to get in here in the south. 🤣
Great build. Great video.
Another brilliant build!!
That is a great build. Fantastic use of what you have in the bed. Keep us up to date on how it works on a camping trip.
Nicely done. The tonneau cover roof and extension for the bed…brilliant. On the outside of the front wall near the bottom I might suggest installing some hinged grab handles. Might help your installation into the bed of the truck. Looked a bit sketchy.
Nice job and very practical 😊
Thank you
“I never camp in the rain.” 😂
*Nice. Thought out. Cute. Compact. Affordable. Thx as always.* 👍🏾
I am a big fan of building a lot in a small space as you have done with this design. We have a '23 Maverick that we will be making 2 different campers for it. Will be looking forward to seeing how it goes when you camp in it.
THIS! So cool! And don’t forget you have room above where your feet go when you sleep for some storage. Possible handles on the outside of your emergency hatch to hold onto (maybe a bar above to then hang down to get out. Absolutely love it! Fantastic work sir! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏👏👏
Yes, I was thinking of putting shelves above , but don't want the extra weight at this time. Haha
That's pretty cool and "out of the box, thinking" Pun intended. You are a funny dude! I especally like the excape hatch.
So glad to return for the finale of this prototype. Well thought out, such a practical design. Thanks!
I am glad to be done. Haha. Thanks for watching!
Fits like a glove over small hands. Lol
You've done a fabulous job on the build, everything you need for a couple of nights away. We'll done 👍
🔥 awesome
Another winner 😊hope you enjoy all your camping trips in your truck camper design
You beat me to it except different. Same concept essentially though. Nice! I like all your maverick videos
Thanks!
There's room enough to add a shelf in the slide out
Definitely!
Genius idea! I guess if you needed to seal it against rain some pipe insulation could be put in place.
Pretty cool build! By the architectural design of the homes in the background of your videos, it looks like you live in Irvine, California... a great place to live.
I really like the clamps for the lid.
Wow,I'm impressed. I really enjoyed the video, good job. !
Glad you enjoyed it!
LOVE this project so much. The whole thing speaks to me! I love that the tonneau cover is the roof! Because its lying around anyways! And its basically the same dimensions that gow roof needed to be so voila! I LOVE that it's no frills and gets the job done and FUNCTIONAL! Why waste weight on cabinets when it could double as a table ouside when camping! Ahhh i cant wait to see how it goes when you take it out.. you gotta tell us how many mpgs you get going down the road lol!!!
Thanks! I still get up to 38 MPG. But I don't drive fast. haha
you are a genius
I like it. I like it a lot. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent innovative design 👏 👌
Amazing
excellent as usual . love the ideas you come up with
I love this sm
well done
Nice little camper ! I enjoy watching your blog.. Actually one of my favorites! Cheers from Missouri!
Thanks for watching!
Great build
Nice! Thank you for sharing 👍
Genius build man
Thanks!
Perfect! Thanks for building what I’m thinking! Now I just have to do it😱! I love the foot box. And repurposing the tonneau cover. It’s about time someone uses that in their camper build! We have a Ranger with tonneau cover and thought it should have some sort of conversion potential. I’m all into this car and truck camping, but my husband is totally not, so it leaves me w figuring out and doing builds, which I don’t end up doing🥺. I will suffer and camp in my Prius hatch instead. Space and normal functions like cooking are a challenge when not at campsites, which I’m not most of the time.
Getting out is the main thing!
Very nice concept, and reasonably well done for a DIY prototype. I can see you put a lot of forethought into this little project. Was your loading/escape hatch an early or late design feature? (LOL) The only mods I can imagine are perhaps to mount some interior LED lights up high, and possibly to hinge your corner table so it can fold up. It's also a clever way to entice your wife or girlfriend to sleep on top of you!
I had the original ford maverick. It was a CAR
What a brilliant design for the Maverick! We have a 2022 Maverick XL that we love but since it's a Hybrid our total tow capacity is only 2000 pounds. Maybe a small 8 ft tent trailer some day. We have a 12 foot tent trailer but at 2450 pounds the Mav won't pull it (: Your extension is brilliant and the low profile of the box will not hamper your gas mileage which we know is amazing in all the Mavericks, not just the Hybrid. Watching this video, might I suggest cladding the outside in POOR MAN'S FIBERGLASS. Basically painter's canvas and thinned wood glue applied like you would apply fiberglass and resin. Then paint it the color of your choice with waterproof paint and it'll look like a million bucks. There are several CZcams videos on how to apply PMF> Subscribed to your channel, looking forward to your videos on adventures in the camper......cheers from Orillia Canada!
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I did consider the PMF but I wanted to make sure the concept was good before I spent the effort. Thy poly wall panel was easy. Btw on a previous video I tested the mpg with the camper, I was still getting 38mpg!!! Yes. I drive slow. Haha
Hi, my name's Richard. I'm actually a custom car builder. I do hot rods. I got a Maverick truck myself. And I was interesteding looking at how you did. Your camper kicking around the same idea when I was working. I worked for depot company and I had an opportunity to work with snug top temperature shell and Lear West in California so. I had ideas of how the campers are bill. You got a clever idea there.I really like it.Were you looking at during it black?Or the color of the truck just curious.Well, thank you very much, I.Appreciate it , hopefully i'm talking to you in the Future cool
I have a playlist the the steps to took to build this. Are you in socal? We could chat if you like. I already took my camper apart. I just didn't have the space to store it and I had a Siena camper and an element camper at the time. (Sienna is now gone)
You have enough room above your feet for more storage.
I was thinking of that too! Add a shelf.
You could do corrugated to keep weight down and shove a blanket up there.
As A Concept, Brilliant, Design, &, A Vastly Cheaper, Alternative, To The, 'Big Brands', Super Expensive, Options.👏 👌 ✨️
Personally, I'd Make A Few Alterations;- To Keep Weight Down Inside.
Use That Foam, Sandwiched Between MDF, Board, For, Shelves, Etc..
Would Also, Sand, &, Shape, The Desk, So Its Rounded, Instead Of Sharp Edged.
Would Make It A Little Taller, &, Add An Extension Pulling, Out, Of Camper, Over The Cab.
Fastened, Using, Seatbelts, &, Seatbelt Bolts, Through, The Top Of The Cab, Windows.
For Sleeping, &, Weighted Inside Camper, For Perfect Balance, (Not Scraching Truck Paintjob).
Use Your, Current, Extension, As An Internal, Shower Area, If It Was Raining, &, Reinforce, All Internal Walls.
Fix Some Military, Waterproof, Tarps, Inside, Extension, With Hooks, In The Extension. For Use With Your Garden Hose, When Showering, &, Using Toilet.
Use, Clip On Shelving, Used By Pop Up Caravans. Buy, A Temu-Foldable-MINI WASHING MASHINE, For Socks, TShirts, Etc...., Powered By Jackery.
Also, Get 1 Of Those, Grill/Mini-Oven, Kettle, Pot, 'Combo's', Via, Temu, Running Of, Your, Jackery Battery, Etc..
Would, Only Use, Those Mini, Marine Windows. Except For The Escape Hatch, Which I'd, Deffinetly, Add Some Internal, Locking, Mechanism, For Extra Security!
Possibly, Also Use, Those, 'Shop', Rails, To Further Lock, The Windows, From Inside, Favoured By, Convienience Stores. To Lock The Front Doors, At Night!
Add Some, External Cameras, &, Sensors, Throughout The, Outside, Of Camper. Also, Add, Some Metal Supports, That Could Bolt Onto Sides, & Top.
For The Roof, Should A Mountain Lion, Wolf, Or, Bear, Choose To Climb Onto, Your Roof, Looking For Scraps, Etc....!
(Last Thing, You Need, Is 1, Of Those, Said, Animals, Falling Into, Your Camper, With, 'You', Sleeping, There.
That Is 1, 'Mess', You Deffinetly, Dont Want, To be Apart Of).
For All The Small, Marine Windows, I'd, Add, Mirror Reflection Window Tape, So You Can See, Out, But Everything Else, Gets A Reflection.
Might Also Be, An Excellent Idea, To Include, Mini, Half Moon Metal Balls To The Roof, &, Eternal Walls. Wired Jointly, Up To, Your Jackery.
Give Them, Critters/Burglers, A Little, 'shock', To Keep, Em, Of Your Roof, &, Away From Walls!
Lastly, Add Some Rails, Up Top, To Slide, Your Metal Boat, Onto, When, Going, Solo, 4 Fishing, Trips.
Also, Maby Get 2 Of Those, Roll Up, Metal Ladders, Drive Both Wheels, Each Side, Onto Them.
If Raining/Snowing, You'll, Have Traction, To Get You Moving, From Rest Area!
🫡
* Add a couple D-rings or coat hooks just inside on the right to hang a knapsack.
* Make a trapdoor inside the door on the left to get to the outlet.
* Make the window larger by the head where you sleep, and move the getaway door.
* Add some roll up magnetic mosquito netting for the window openings.
Escape.. lol a fist wouod also work
I love this build 🥰 You were able to maximize that space so well. Am in awe of your tetris abilities 👏 Will you be doing an overnight trip in this at all or is it too cold to camp this time of year? Regardless, it's an awesome build!
WAAAAAYYY too cold this time of year for me! haha
LOL 😂 I understand!! I can see this being warm with the insulated walls
WOULD CARDBOARD SANDWICHED BETWEEN MILITARY GRADE TARPS, OFFER REINFORCED INSULATION, FOR MINIMUM COST?!@@Tiny-Campers
Great Job! I'm 6'4", so it 'might' work for me in the pull out sleeping position????
Will be close. But you can design your pull out to out a few more inches than mine.
Also keep in mind, we don't sleep flat footed. You will need 3-4 inches to relax your feet.
What did you use to waterproof the roof of the slide out?
Tonneau covers are waterproof
sorry if I missed in the comments, but can you comment on MPG decrease and if you have the hybrid or ecoboost?
Driving conservatively, I still got 38MPG, I normally get 41MPG. For all freeway driving, I am sure it will go down, maybe 36?
that's pretty good! thanks for the info, thinking about making a poor man fiberglass cab@@Tiny-Campers
How wide is the narrowest part of the bed? Did you ever say the weight?
Maybe 20 inches for the leg portion? I don't have a way to weight the whole thing.
The Maverick is 73" wide; so why not make a 73" wide camper, then you can have a 6' bed?
I think that 73" measurement is from the tips of the rear view mirrors. I would rather not extend that wide over the bed.
@@Tiny-Campers No, it is between the wheels. For reference, the Scout Tuktut is 72 1/4.
no axle terrible truck design nice job on camper tho other then the flake board i would to use it smells
😂
I saw a channel that had a few videos, like the collapsible tub, that I thought were interesting. NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures. “Shorts”
Great job. Enjoyed the video.
