I don't think Alan White ever hit the skins as well on the Definitely Maybe songs as Tony did. Columbia, Slide Away and Supersonic all smack harder during this era than they ever would again.

Me and two Uni friends - John and Tom - got on a rickety old coach in Coventry to get to this gig on a cold December night. Quick Wimpy beforehand and then across the road to the Civic. We lost Tom within the first 30 seconds of Rock and Roll Star and only found him as I Am The Walrus was finishing.
Oasis were astonishing that night - tight, vibrant, everything you wanted them to be. I saw them a few times later in their career and, polished as they were, it never felt as ferocious and real as that night in the West Midlands.
It wasn't 'Britpop' to us, it was just incredibly joyful and a hell of time to be young and without worries. I remember turning to John and yelling during Digsy's Dinner: "These could be the best days of our lives".
And you know what? They were.

My first proper gig as a young un (15). Me and my mate had no idea what happened at gigs and my abiding memory is the Civic going proper mental on the first chord of the first track.
Then walking out at the end into the freezing cold, a sweaty mess, absolutely buzzing waiting for my mum and dad to pick us up!
I kind of fell out of love with Oasis once they got really popular but this was a great gig and a great introduction to gigging.
Had no idea it had been recorded so this is a great find.
    Happy memories!
    Live Forever.

This is Oasis. Listening to this brings it all back - this is it, this is when the had the power and energy in them to take the World and they did. It makes my spine tingle to be honest - nothing has come anywhere near this in 25 years, and very little touches it prior to that. A force of nature and there was never any doubt as to what they would do. Blessed to have been around to witness it all first hand.

Liam's voice was at it's best in 94 in my opinion. I hear so many people say it was at it's best in 96-98, but it started sounded forced and scratchy by then in my opinion. In 94 it sounded so effortless and natural, yet amazing. Not to mention, Liam could still sing the higher notes. By 95, Noel started singing the high notes coz Liam couldn't reach them anymore. Regardless, I love Oasis and always will. Live Forever x

"It's hard to believe that in early 1994 they had no agent, no money and no manager" except Marcus Russell & Ignition Management - their long time management - jumped on board in May 1993 after they signed to creation through ties with Johnny Marr.

Noel always said Tony couldnt get BIOD right. Well it sounds like he's got it right here.

He probably couldnt play wonderwall and some of the newer stuff.. But shouldve stuck by him and worked the sound round his drumming cause the way he played noone plays like him.. Very choppy but it works and drives the band perfect for oasis.. We all know noel was a controlling cunt that sacked everyone. Genuinely nice guy aswell tony.

@@Tank1 I think he just had it in for Tony tbh as I've heard every complaint under the sun about his drumming that is just wrong. People say he can't keep time and yet he's basically metronome perfect for at least all the 94 shows (including the infamous Whisky A-Go-Go show). He's a very musical drummer who had a lot more to offer than Alan "Same Fill Every Time" White.

He struggled to play to a click track. And when you have to make that big crossover record, and time is money, if your drummer can't play exactly in time, then you're fucked.

Did they really not play Live Forever and Supersonic? Or were they cut from the broadcast for some reason (gig seems a bit short)

    • @Kafei15
      @Kafei15 Před 8 lety +1

Keeping the shorter gigs would of been better in the long run. Liam powers the hell out of his singing and it sounds amazing but it's probably a killer on his voice.
This gig is fking great, but he's already stopped hitting the high notes at this point
