Hey, I know you're not making these videos anymore, and I get it. I'm sure it was exhausting. But I just wanted to tell you how much they helped me when I first got my wheelchair. I went from "fuuuuuuuuuuck" to "fuck it, I can do this!" and I have! I still travel (only by car, so far) and go camping, explore the accessible areas of national parks and museums. And you really helped give me the can do attitude.

It's really great to help me remember if I've taken them or not. But I hate refilling them every week, so I have four of each size tray, and only refill them once every 28 days.

    Happy Easter!!
I've been doing this sort of thing for years, and it's so much easier than trying to deal with bottles. I actually learned it from my mom when I was young, so it's always been part of how I manage my meds. I take meds 4 times a day, and I'm often out of the house when I need to take them, especially in the evenings (sometimes for more/far longer than I originally anticipated), so what I like to do is use an organizer with 4x/day removable boxes, then I can take the entire day with me in case I might not be home in time, and that way I don't have to take the entire week's boxes (I will note that I'm on so many that I had to get the biggest 4x/day removable box organizer I could find - each day's full box isn't much smaller than your full week ones - so carrying the whole week wouldn't work (it'd be huge and really heavy, so I only do it when traveling i.e. when I already need to take the whole thing with me anyway, and it fits securely in a case so nothing can fall out in transit - they've got secure enough latches that in the 3 1/2 years that I've had them, none of them have ever popped open on me without fairly significant external torque on their doors), but one day is perfect for me). I color code as well in a way - I have several weeks' worth of boxes, and each week is a different color, that way, since some meds have to be built up to the full dose over time, I don't lose track of which week is which during the process, in case I accidentally stack them out of order. I have enough for 4 weeks right now, so I usually refill them every 4 weeks or so (none of my meds have to stay in their packaging until taken/can't be out of the packaging for very long - I know some meds are like that, thankfully none of mine are), so, while it might take me a few hours to do all 4 weeks, I only have to do them about once a month or so - it's awesome!
Mine are mostly timed around when I eat, but because when I eat fluctuates so much, I can't really set specific times to take them - I've tried taking certain ones on a empty stomach, and that has never ended well, so I basically organize them by what has to be taken after eating/says to be taken with food and what can be taken on an empty stomach.

I also refill on Wednesday afternoons! Gotta be done by 2pm.
My pills tray is awesome - colour coded by day (red - Sunday, orange Monday, yellow - Tuesday etc) there are 7 seperate trays in the box, with 4 compartments in each. I just take that days tray with me wherever I go that day.

    • @SnowySpiritRuby
      @SnowySpiritRuby Pƙed 2 lety +2

Mine are like that, too, Red = Sunday to Pink = Saturday 4x/day with each day being removable. I ended up having to get the biggest one I could find because I'm on so many things (each day of mine is almost the size of one of his weekly ones) - I started out trying to use two 2x/day boxes (w/removable days) with really big compartments, but that epically failed because I would often forget to bring the second box for the day with me, or I ended up being out for far longer than I originally thought (the more common one), so I had to get one where I'd always have the full day no matter what. Having just the single week with different colors for each day worked great for me until I was on something that took several weeks to build up to the full dose, then I had to keep track of which week was which, so I ended up (over the course of about 2 1/2 years) acquiring enough that I could have each week be its own color, and that has done wonders for me because I can keep track of exactly which order the weeks are supposed to be in when building up, because before I would have easily forgotten and would have had to go through all the boxes to be able to determine what order they were supposed to be in if I accidentally got them out of order. So now I have 5 that I use regularly (4 weeks of most and 1 with 2 weeks of another where each dose takes up a full compartment, the latter of which I'm fine with refilling every 2 weeks) and 2 set aside for travel (I don't mind having to refill every week when traveling if it means I only have to bring 2 trays instead of 5), I only have to refill 4 of them every 4 weeks, and the other one every 2 weeks.

I am glad that as an older person I already had practice in organizing and sorting pills, especially since I often had to travel. My current "Pill Day" is Sunday after evening pills. Sometimes I'm so tired I contemplate just putting out the Monday Morning pills and finishing then.
My current rig is held in a leather case not very large and the plastic boxes are 4 spots per day, each day different color, and each day separate from the other. So very helpful to bring only the days I need with me. But I always take at least one day extra with me if not 2 or 3. Stayed over a night longer than planned, but I had the meds.
I am just entering into my new "Wheelchair Life". I can still walk but have a disease that is making walking more and more painful, so a wheelchair if I want to go anywhere. Your channel has been a great help! I know the VA has resources for the wounded soldiers but in my case, a non-service related, non-injury induced wheelchair use, well... So thanks.

This has been soooooo helpful these past few years since I started doing this. I’m on a lot of meds for a neurological disorder (idiopathic intracranial hypertension) and also have a partially paralyzed leg from a surgery a year ago where my spinal cord was damaged. My surgeon didn’t realize that when he removed my shunt tubing from my spine (due to infection) it was actually stuck to my spinal cord and he pulled on the tubing causing injury to my spinal cord. I would like to add that when I travel, I purchase pill Ziploc stylebags (local pharmacy and Amazon both sell them), label them with the day and am or pm, and put all of them into a larger Ziploc bag. When I arrive at my destination, I lay them all out on the dresser and then follow the same method of reminding myself which pills to take. Keeps me from dragging all of my bottles with me.

I’m thankful you make videos like this. I feel like a walking pharmacy and often wonder “did I take that pill”
I just wonder if I can source a pill case with child locks since I have a toddler. I keep extras in my wheelchair but that’s only enough solution to have them when I remember. I’m off to Google, but thank you for making your content.

When I was ill with an autoimmune disease, I had to take 16 prednisones. In one day I had to take 30 different tablets. Sorting them all out into pill boxes on a Sunday simplified my life for the week ahead. I didn't need to count out every single pill daily, this task took me a good hour. I also put alarms on my phone to remind me of the order in which to take them. Certain tablets needed to be taken before food, others after food.
My favourite pill box was a stack that was marked for each day and each day had 6 parts, the lid sliding them all open and closed, so I wouldn't have to open every single compartment, only slide them all open at one time, leaving other ones closed for later. The current day would be at the bottom of the stack, at the end of the day you slide it back into the top of the stack, and the next day would be at the bottom.......

Great hacks. When you take medication regularly you're not sure if you took the pills today or was that yesterday. The pill boxes are an absolute necessity for me. You're almost at 100k subscribers!!! Okay everyone watching, subscribe if you're not already. 👍😊

Add ADHD into the mix (of already taking things regularly/multiple times a day), and a pill box is an absolute non-negotiable - so many times I've been like, "did I take them already, or did I not?" but one look at my transparent box tells me exactly what I need to know; otherwise I'd probably err either one way or the other, depending on what I was taking, both of which could be bad. And plus, it's just annoying to have to get them out of the bottles every single time.

I do exactly the same thing. The difference being that I use ONE large pill box that has 4 (see-through colored & labled day & time) sections for each part of each day. Ex: yellow says MORN, pink says NOON, blue says EVE, purple says BED. This is really helpful because I also spread out supplements too.

I fil my meds two weeks at a time in a similar fashion to yours but in smaller morning, noon night with the days on them. It helps me remember so much better. Also, like you said traveling is such much easier.
I have a purse, so not having to buy and carry a huge bag is wonderful!! Great tips. I also use med fill day to write on my calendar and in my phone when to call the pharmacies.
I also put all the meds that need to be refilled into a Ziploc so no I don't accidentally drop a bottle and freak out! It had happened before!
Also be careful with pop tops that don't stay on well!
    Good luck guys!

Im on 34 prescriptions due to multiple autoimmune diseases that i had paior to my spinal injury. I've used a pill organizer for probably 20 years. I do a month at a time. I have four trays with one tray per day and four slots per day. The only thing i don't put in there are pain meds that are as needed.

You can also get Timer Caps that will tell you how much time has passed since you opened it. They can also be great alternatives.
When I was on the pill, I had an alarm on my phone for the 10 years I was on the medication. It SAVED my ass so many times.

I use the system you use (I only have to do twice a day).
The only thing that throws me out is if I eat late and take my tablets 'before' I eat. Any tablet is going to kick in faster and hit harder on an empty stomach. I really try to have food in my belly as any tablet is harsher on an empty stomach.
My tablets hit like a freight train if I do take before eating..definitely not a fun feeling as it's like being sea sick.

My favorite pill box ever I learned about on here from, “The Frey Life.” It only has AM and PM for 7 days but if you only take meds twice a day I guarantee you, you will love it. It has little rubber things that help the lids pop open all the way when to press the button to open it. It also stays closed easier than those standard trays. Each day is a different color (it’s a rainbow). I got it off Amazon. You have a great system here going on!!
You can also get a month’s worth of meds already grouped together in a blister pack for free at a lot of pharmacies. I used to use them when I first started to have to take all my meds on my own (because I grew up and became an adult 😂). It helped me transition to making sure I know what everything I need each time and double checking.
