      @yohannessulistyo4025 Před 2 lety +4

      @@remen_emperor I heard a rant from an American. He complained that Europe is very "conformists". Like, people will stare at you if you wear shirts with weird pictures or striking clothings. They will notice something that is out of pattern and really try to drive out non-conformities. He then compared that to USA (especially California, where he comes from), which he said that people are more individualist and doesn't care about your personal choice or style.
      As an observer, I think it is just that Americans often wishing to be viewed in certain way to fit their own ideal image, but in reality it is not necessarily true. "Yeah, America is like the least racist place on earth, because we are racist to everybody" - yeah, they wish they were. It is what used to be called a "poser" or simply pretentious.
      For instance, why do anyone wear attention-grabbing attires if you don't want to be noticed?
      Plus, people really make a fuss if you don't like their sports team or favourite players or support their president of choice. People in Europe or Latin America won't lie to you about whether they are this uber cool "not giving sh1t3 type of badass person", they will just tell you that they are passionate about their local sports team. Asians meanwhile are vanilla and deflated, pretty aloof like a bunch of cats in public, lacking in passion (just go to many live concerts in Asia). Anonymously, they are a bunch of hungry wolves with stronger desire to cancel anyone that is somewhat successful.
      Then there is this mask business. Yeah, Americans wish that they were individualist. But they really speak their mind, which often defeats their own imaginary self of being someone who doesn't care.

    So in Japan and a lot of asian countries, it was easier for them to just move into wearing masks a lot because in a lot of those countries, it's considered proper etiquite when you get a cold or have hayfever or something where you are coughing and sneezing all the time to wear a mask. The justification vary depending on where you are but the general concensus is to not spread disease and to not show how ill you look (In japan also, blowing your nose is impolite so you gotta protect the drip by any means necessary)
    Here in America though it I guess you could say was a huge culture shock. I used to actually wear masks when I would get sick for the same reasons as above, but now it's hard for me to actually do that because, well, the politicization of the mask debate really messed with my psychy and it now causes anxiety and panic attacks that makes it hard to wear one for long before I hyperventilate. Perhaps somewhat because it's a restriction on my freedom, but most of it was because at the height, the political fights were very oppressive and there was an overbearing sense of judgement coming from people if I didn't wear one or struggled with wearing one. So personally I was quite glad when they lifted the mask mandates.
    But really it's just way too political here, where people on both side will confront others for no fucking reason and act like they're imposing on everyone else if they choose to wear one/not wear one but leave others lone.

I'd lived in Idaho for a short time and except for the odd one or two people everybody else were fantastic and polite, for example me and a friend were walking passed the Boise town hall and some kids were throwing snowballs and one hit my friend in the face and the kids APOLOGISED! I mean wtf! There was no taunts or derogatory insults and laughter. The culture shock can be so jarring sometimes, especially with the Japanese suffering with Paris syndrome, which is a thing.

The inner cities were people actually walk usually have too much crime on the streets so the machines would be broken and their stuff stolen without a day of being put up. The only places you really see vending machines is inside buildings with lots of people walking around like shopping malls, hospitals, offices, etc.

    some things ive noticed
    northern UK (north east especialy) people always apologise when they bump into you, probbly because if you dont its a coin flip of it turning into a fight
    I think one of the reasons the north can be so polite and welcoming is because of this
    also in relation to the mask thing, I kinda get people getting agro over wearing masks still, so many chavs around my home town in the north east just using wearing facemasks to stay anonomous and get away with all sorts of shit
    south west UK the taxi drivers have significantly more expensive cars than in the north and always help you with your bags, because they dont want there car getting scratched up sometimes to a point of not letting you put in your own bags (one once got into an argument with me because I closed the boot myself and somehow just expected me to know it was a motorised boot)
