  • In this video, I cover my process for cleaning and lubricating my HK VP9-Match competition/range pistol. This process also applies to many semi-auto pistols on the market currently. Please see below for quick time stamps if you would like to skip to a specific part of the video.
    00:00 Intro and Safety Checks
    00:18 Field Strip
    00:45 Cleaning Supplies Used
01:58 Begin Cleaning & Wipe Down
04:31 Application of Solvent and Cleaning Barrel
    17:13 Cleaning Slide
17:40 Removing Carbon From Under Extractor Claw
19:15 Cleaning Lower FCG and Grip Assembly
    20:31 Lubrication and Reassembly
    25:32 Wipe-Down and Function Test
    26:26 Cleaning the Red Dot
    27:21 Wiping Down Magazines
    29:14 Closing
This was a mid-level cleaning and lubrication procedure. A light-cleaning procedure for me would only involve running a bore snake down the barrel (or perhaps a couple patches), a light wipe-down with a microfiber towel, and re-lubrication. Likewise, a heavy cleaning for me would involve doing a detailed cleaning of the actual fire control components, as well as the internal mechanisms on the slide itself (striker, spring, extractor, etc.) This level of cleaning I only do as necessary.

I’ve watched your video several times now, and have enjoyed your take on cleaning your gun. Thank you for actually starting out with a gun that needed cleaning, so I could actually see how it works.

Thanks for this detailed video. I watched it, and then rewatched it pausing to follow along. My gun feels like a well oiled machine. Thank you!

Thanks for this awesome video. I`ve got a VP9 as my duty gun but we never got an instruction as good as this one. Keep on going!

some say dont use a brush, only chemical cleaner. I really dont know whats better but i think the VP9 has the benefit of the polygon barrel, its easier to clean.

this is like a once a year cleaning. unless you are in an active war zone, this is way overkill for a 500 round cadence cleaning. Modern firearm coatings are extremely advanced, this is just not required that often.

"The pick is mild steel it won't scratch the slide"

Great instructional video. Watched the entire thing. Taking my VP9 Match to the range tomorrow for first time use.
Did have question, though. No bore snake incorporated into cleaning process of barrel for removing the carbon residue? Beginner level at all of this, so would like to hear.

Sweet deal, and I hope you enjoy taking it out for the first time!
I typically either deep clean (as shown in this video) or use a bore snake for a quick clean. Realistically there’s nothing a bore snake is going to do, that brushes and patches won’t already have done already, so it’s basically a redundancy. If you pull a bore snake, it’ll get *most* of the fouling out, but not all. If you run brushes and patches till everything is clean, then you’ve got all of the residue out anyway. It’s preference, mostly

    What HOLOSUN are you using?

How often do you perform this cleaning on your hk? After how many rounds?
Also, what would be the difference in amount of oil applied for a duty/carry gun versus a comp gun?

Excellent tutorial! Hows that VP9 holding up?

    • @thereloadingcraft
      @thereloadingcraft  Před rokem

Thank you! Holding up excellent! At this point it has roughly 6-8k rounds through it, looks virtually identical in condition to how it does in the video, and has never had a single part replaced. Recoil springs are still good, trigger is perfectly crisp as it always was, and it’s running like a top! I may go a bit heavier on the oil than others do (because it’s a comp gun, not a duty carry) but the reduced wear speaks for itself haha
