    I use stainless steel chips from Southern Shine Media. They don't get stuck in cases like pins do.

      Would not recommend, because the media is so heavy

    I dont use pins for precision, but i do enjoy reloading with shiny brass. Its why i add a table spoon of car wax to the mix to keep the shine.

      Yup, I do (2) 1.5 hour cycles of tumbling. The first gets Dawn and lemishine, the second gets A&A Wash & Wax and lemishine!

    For my prs rifle brass I tumble in white rice. Gets them pretty clean and leaves carbon in the neck. Makes bullet seating pressure pretty consistent.

    For some of us, we load rifle cases. A few broken deprime pins will change your mind. Shiny cases are just asthestics. Try dry tumbling with ceramic ball media

    • @thereloadingcraft
      @thereloadingcraft  Před rokem

      I load a good bit of rifle as well, and have yet to break a single pin. Unless a berdan sneaks in, you’re going to feel any issue before you break or bend a quality pin, unless you’re ham-fisting the press.

      use "nu-finish" car polish, orange bottle. some polishes have a chemical reaction thats bad. dont use brasso, the chemical is in it, ammonia or something.

    The exact way i clean my Brass to it is so much easier when no Carbon is left on the Brass, i decap fired Brass with the Handtool from FA on the Couch so non of the Dirt comes near the Reloading Press i hate the Dirt on my nice Press it Ruined the old Press from my Dad

    How could you ever expect to clean your brass without media?

    • @thereloadingcraft
      @thereloadingcraft  Před rokem +1

      A lot of people do it that way (in the tumbler with cleaning solution but no media) but I find it doesn’t get clean enough that way for my taste. To each their own I suppose but I’ll keep using media, myself

      @@thereloadingcraft Yeah I seen the brass. I mean my primer pockets look close but not even near the inside of what you guys are getting using stainless steel. The outside cases look pretty good but I'll tell you what those primer pockets are amazing and the inside of the case is totally done So I like it let me try it.

  • @HansBelphegor

    Why not brass pins?

    • @thereloadingcraft
      @thereloadingcraft  Před rokem

      They would wear out much faster and if they happen to be softer then the cases wouldn’t properly polish the surface

  • @GunGuy258

    Walnut shavings give me clean brass too. Have you found otherwise?

    • @thereloadingcraft
      @thereloadingcraft  Před rokem

      Walnut does clean, but walnut will never clean as well (especially in primer pockets) as stainless media wet tumbling will. I use to get brass from a guy that walnut tumbled before he sold it-I would resize it and wash in my wet tumbler and there was a noticeable improvement in the finish.

    What’s a round and load you recommend for somebody just getting into reloading? I’ve got all the stuff needed but have been holding out on powder and primers until I know what I wanna start out trying. Currently thinking either .38 special or .30-06 for my M1.

    • @thereloadingcraft
      @thereloadingcraft  Před rokem

      Both are easily doable, just be aware if loading for a Garand to stick to powders and projectiles with burn rates/pressure curves comparable to the original “Garand load” 30-06 loads. 38 special is super easy as well, and pretty forgiving too.

    • @ILikeToLaughAtYou
      @ILikeToLaughAtYou Před rokem

      @@thereloadingcraft Gotcha. Yeah I’ve got everything to reload for M1, 4895 is becoming slightly easier to find and I refuse to use any other powder for M2 ball loads lol. What spec load do you recommend for .38 that’s not +P?

    • @thereloadingcraft
      @thereloadingcraft  Před rokem

      38 is one of those where you can make it work with just about any good pistol powder, though some are ideal for different applications. What barrel length are you loading for, and what kind of loads do you want to develop for it?

    • @ILikeToLaughAtYou
      @ILikeToLaughAtYou Před rokem

      @@thereloadingcraft I’m just reloading for an 80’s production Smith and Wesson Model 10-5, my grandfather’s old service weapon from the MPDC. 4” bull barrel. It’s only a range toy for the most part, but want something that’ll be accurate for when I run through their old training standards with his old holster and gear haha
