I know this is an older video but that was a great fix I also thought that my 22 mag was complete trash I thought it was also the lips and the magazine turns out it was exactly what you showed thank you so much I never even thought of that but I always thought that the magazine wiggled a little too much good fix
I just bought same gun only 22 mag,..squeezed tabs in ,fixed the same problem, works perfect now, you would think a 460 dollar gun would have a small issue like that fixed at the factory, oh well, still a nice rifle, thanks for help ,
What I did with my dads rifle is, I took a hammer and i hammered down the two tabs that ride along that metal strip in the magazine well. And i banged them down so that they squeezed on the tab. Easy fix. Works like a charm.
Thank you thank you! ! Thought I had real problem with my 93r 17 but your suggestion fixed everything. Now it feeds smoothly and the bolt action is silky just the way I like it. I also had problem with shells popping out of the mag but bent the cartridge retaining tabs over and now they stay where they are supposed to. Subbed your channel. ..thanks again
Thank you very much sir… I put around 30 rounds through my new 10rd mag then all hell broke loose. Luckily this was a quick fix out in the fix with a leatherman and she runs great again
Thank you so much. Frustrating how you didn't show how to bend the tabs though. I figured it out. Use a pair of channel lock pliers with the top jaw on the very end of the tab and the bottom jaw on the edge of the view slot. Go gently and gradually, testing the clip in the gun. Its easy to get it too tight, but if you do just use the top jaw of the pliers to bend them back up. Functions beautifully. No more frustration in the field Hallelujah!
I can't remember exactly how I did it but it probably involved taking the mag out outside, using the largest cleat in sight as an anvil, and some swearing at seagulls for leaving their leftovers all over my deck. It definitely would not have been worthy material for "how to" anything.
I just bought one and have the same problem with 3 different clips. They were very loose and would rotate down slightly and the nose of the bullet would hit the steel and not the hole in the barrel. Savage said the "L" bracket needs to be adjusted. I could send it to the factory or take it to a gunsmith. I ended up just putting a piece of tape or 2 on the clip to get it tighter on the slide. Works like a charm. Cut the tape about a quarter inch wide and place it on the rear of the clip. So then when you slide it up the L bracket, it is tight and not loose. It may require more than one layer of tape. I also took some fine sand paper and deburred the top of the clip where the bullets slide out to reduce the friction. Hope this helps.
the hunterfishergather fix worked perfect factory new mag 10 round lose as hell now works and enjoying my rifle go easy little at a time use the channel locks check until perfect this way. the rivets will not pop because your using the view slot thank you
thanks for the video. i recently bought the savage 93r17 fvsr and the magazines are my only complaint. i have the same issue. cant wait for my weekend to give this a try. subscrided to ya. thanks again
I have the same issue with my .22 wmr I have experienced light-strike with non firing and mis loading... a pain in the arse when in the field at night.
I've got a fix for that front scope cover not fitting over the bell of the scope. I had the same problem with mine and the "fix" took me 5 minutes, some painter's or masking tap, a pen and a sharp exacto, or pocket, knife to fix and works a treat. Let me know if you''re interested.
I sent the whole rifle back cause it wouldn’t feed even after sending to a master gunsmith. The trigger was crooked also. Still waiting for it. The 10 round mag wouldn’t work either.
I didn't say in the video because it probably wouldn't have been helpful. I can't remember exactly what I did (it was years ago) but it involved using the largest cleat on my deck as an anvil, a hammer, and some channel locks.
Scared Stupid understood I used my vice I wrapped a soft cloth around it and tightened it up ever so slowly It helped I also had an casing get stuck in the barrel Simple fix So I pulled the bolt and cleaned it Haven’t had any problems since..yet lol Now I’m trying to dial in the scope Happy Fourth brother 🇺🇸
Joel Gravel I used channellock pliers to bend the two tabs a bit closer together. Regular pliers might work but there would be a higher chance of sliding off and scratching up the mag a bit (if you care) I had the same issue on another Savage .22 I picked up new a little while ago and had to do the same thing to the mag so it's not just the .17 HMR mags that have this little issue.
all I did was take a pair of channel locks and squeeze the clip channel just a little wee bit....doesn't take much. Mine is very nice and tight now. You could probably use a small hammer and give the channel a few taps on either side. Im sure both ways would work.
sorry, I did purchase my savage new a few years back, but I never addressed the clip problem and when I seen this post on you tube, I had to say something. Maybe they fixed the problem by now no doubt.
Savage 17s and 22mags are a piece of crap!!! I have both. Both have this well known issue. I called savage was on hold 57 minutes to be told they dont get this complaint on either gun. I bought my guns 7 years apart still have the same issue 2 days ago with a buddies new 22mag. The guy sent me a new mag...had the SAME DAMN issue. Will NEVER BUY savage again in these 2 calibers and will warn everyone I know to stay clear. Savage knows it and is not dealing with it. ..complete lunacy...
A direct cut and pate from another comment: I can't remember exactly how I did it but it probably involved taking the mag out outside, using the largest cleat in sight as an anvil, and some swearing at seagulls for leaving their leftovers all over my deck. It definitely would not have been worthy material for "how to" anything.
This did the trick for my model 93 minimalist 22 wmr. I used a channel lock pliers and went slow. It's rock solid now
I know this is an older video but that was a great fix I also thought that my 22 mag was complete trash I thought it was also the lips and the magazine turns out it was exactly what you showed thank you so much I never even thought of that but I always thought that the magazine wiggled a little too much good fix
Thanks for the help! I love my 17 but it’s been annoying dealing with this issue

This worked perfect. Rounds are cycling fine now! Thank you

Your quite welcome and I'm glad the video was helpful for someone else with a 93R17!
I had the same problem I just put a little strip of black tape on the magazine so it wold't go in too loose and problem solved.
Thank you very much sir… I put around 30 rounds through my new 10rd mag then all hell broke loose. Luckily this was a quick fix out in the fix with a leatherman and she runs great again

the view slot???
Thanks, I signed up! Looks interesting and informative. The rifle I shoot and reload for the most is a Savage 12 VLP.
Thank you sir, for your information. I appreciate the information.😊

Yes I just recently noticed this issue literally have to put upward pressure to get to feed. Will try this.

+coils1945 You're quite welcome and cheers!
Thanks man!! Great fix.
Thank you sir I found this video very helpful
I have the same issue with my .22 wmr
I have experienced light-strike with non firing and mis loading... a pain in the arse when in the field at night.
Thank you bought 2 magazines and they did the same with my stock one 😂❤
If savage had just put a loading ramp on the rifles, would of helped greatly
Thanks for showing us the fix would have been nice to see how you fixed the magazine

Could you show the technique you used to adjust the clip??
I sent the whole rifle back cause it wouldn’t feed even after sending to a master gunsmith. The trigger was crooked also. Still waiting for it. The 10 round mag wouldn’t work either.
The ten round mags didn't help. 7 years later these rifles, and magazines have the same issues.
I appreciate the vid
But can you tell me how exactly you bent the mag back?
I didn't say in the video because it probably wouldn't have been helpful. I can't remember exactly what I did (it was years ago) but it involved using the largest cleat on my deck as an anvil, a hammer, and some channel locks.
Scared Stupid understood

How exactly did you bend the tabs? My brand new 93R17 mags have this exact issue.
Thanks in advance

Van Isle Gunnut So you just put the tips of the pliers one on each tab and squeezed them slightly closer?
Yes, exactly.
all I did was take a pair of channel locks and squeeze the clip channel just a little wee bit....doesn't take much. Mine is very nice and tight now. You could probably use a small hammer and give the channel a few taps on either side. Im sure both ways would work.
Bend the ears on the mag and give the barrel a ramp job. Did that on my model 93 22mag.
Problem solved but now it doesnt wanna drop the mag i haveto give it a oush for thay mag to drop its self
"Thanks so much for the info". Im just wondering why so many people that buy the savage 22 have similar loose clip problems??
That video is literally 7 years old, is Savage is still shipping rifles with that POS magazine? My goodness I hope not....
sorry, I did purchase my savage new a few years back, but I never addressed the clip problem and when I seen this post on you tube, I had to say something. Maybe they fixed the problem by now no doubt.
@@quickdraw42 they havnt fixed shit
@@ScaredStupid the 10 round magazines are still terrible

Ciao, io ho una Brawinig T Bolt cal. 17 HMR, è dotata di filettatura per il silenziatore, potresti trovare e uno. Grazie
Where did you get the wood stock?
That's the factory stock from Savage. 2010/2011 era I think.
John Bailey, Boyd's Stocks make the stocks for Savage as far as I know. You can check out Boyd's website for details on ordering one.
Thats a model 93 stock . Mine came with it
They should have chamfered the edge of the breech or at least knocked the edge off just a bit.
Should have shown how you bent it too
Next time put the safety on…that rifle was ready to fire
Show how you bent the tabs for shits sake! Hammer, mallet, needlenose pliers???

@@ScaredStupid Well that's not really very helpful. Why post a video in the first place??
