    One thing I was shown to zero a rifle using less ammo is to fire a shot, then keep looking through the scope while keep it on your point of aim and move the dials until the cross hairs move to where the bullet hit. Can save some time and some ammo.

Light projectiles, wind currents, heavy trigger pull, bullet drop or rise, bullet weight differences, thermal variations between the end of the barrel and target, barrel heating, slightly different bullet speeds all mix up for the perfect recipe for deviation from the point of zero. • @nhwnhw02
      @nhwnhw02 Před 2 lety

      CZ can sell you a 457 American that has both 22lr and 17hmr barrels. It is easy to convert back and forth. Although once you use the 17hmr, you might never swap back. Use fmj bullets on small game you may want to eat. Very lethal and minimum tissue damage. Any expanding bullet from the 17hmr is explosive on small game. The increased range is awesome.

A Trapper that I watch who works and lives in the NWT has shot wolves and wolverine with his 17hmr and they were not on traps at the time! The 17hmr is a very effective caliber that punches way outside it's weight class!

      200 yards is past max limit in my opinion with 17hmr. It’s a laser beam cartridge, but loses way too much mustard at that distance, plus if there is much wind, it’s too light a round to sustain its trajectory.

      One interesting thing about the HMR round-- at least Hornady's 17 grain one-- is that at close distance, you can shoot a 2-liter bottle of water, and you'll have one entrance "wound", but no exit. It dumps all its energy within 5 inches of water, but leaves only the polymer tip and pieces of that bullet shaking around in the bottom of the bottle. 😳 In other words, if you need a round to do big damage to the inside of a small beast, but not damage fur, then the .17HMR will do the trick.
