Ford Edge LED Headlight Upgrade Install 2011-2014

  • Today I’ll show how easy it is to upgrade the factory halogen projector lights on the 2011-2014 Ford Edge to a bright white 6000k LED and I’ll be using LED bulbs by Lasfit, which rotate 360° to fine tune the beam pattern. This simple installation took about 30 minutes from start to finish. The 2011-2014 Ford Edge uses a single beam 9012 headlight bulb in the factory projector headlight housing. (This video does not apply to the 2015+ Edge, which uses a different bulb type.) Please ask any questions below!

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  Před 2 lety

      I have not had any issues with DRL, as I never used them or the vehicle didn't have them. I don't think the LED's would cause a problem being used as DRL's.

    • @christopherott6377
      @christopherott6377 Před 2 lety +1

      @@6thGearGarage I thought daytime running lights were standard, they just make the projector headlights come on at a slightly dimmer level during the day. Anyway, I ordered and installed the exact same LED's on my Edge about a week ago, and can confirm that the DRL's work correctly, with no flickering or any other issues. If I were to do it again, I'd probably look for some that have 4 LED's instead of 2. The projector housing was made for 360 degrees of light, and the dual LED has a blind spot parallel to the plane of the aluminum mount. That's why they need to be rotated, the light drops off in these areas. It's still much better than the halogens. Thanks for your video!

    Question: How did you secure the bulb position once you adjusted it properly? I mean, can't the bulb still rotate, if you don't do anything? Cars vibrate a lot while driving. Also, I see 9005 + H11 as the recommended bulb for the 2011 Ford Edge. Is that the same as the 9012?

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  Před 4 lety +2

      The position stays put and hasn't moved from vibrations so far. I suppose there's enough tension to keep it from rotating on its own. I know there are HID headlights available for the Edge that use a different bulb, but as far as I know, the halogens for this generation of Edge are a 9012 bulb. You may want to check Lasfit's website before buying.

      The 9005 and 9006 are very similar to the 9012 and can be used. The pegs for securing it in the housing are a little different and will work. If you are having trouble you can cut some plasic off the bulb base. The plugs are the same. No adapter needed.

      I just took them to the UPS store to return earlier today and already got my refund. Maybe I’ll try ordering them again. I just thought maybe there was a compatibility issue with the D/S and an LED bulb.

    does anyone want to talk about how bad the edge headlights suck mainly for driving down dark country roads?
    i tried LED and i went back with the best sylvania halogens because while the LED may be brighter in terms of lumens and color temp, the halogens were better focused.
    i guess its the way led light disperses or something but no matter what bulb you use the headlights suck bad just look back when you turned your brights on, i could hardly tell, if the video had been muted and i had to guess i would have thought you didnt even turn them on.
    i have adjusted the headlights up and down on a dark road at night and got them out as far as they could reach, there is no side to side adjustments for those who are asking.
    there has got to be a way to make these headlights not really so much brighter but get further down the road and yeah maybe brighter to.
    my 03 explorer low beams outshines the edges high beams by a country mile.

      @@davidkanoff110 I think some had an option for Xenon/HID headlamps. Perhaps they could be retrofitted? Although I've never compared the output difference, so it may not be worth it. At 180k mi, The water pump went out while driving on the highway, so I parted out our ford edge.

      @@6thGearGarage I replaced the water pump on mine at 260k and it went out again a year later and had to change it again. Yes I did the work myself, it's a pain, that's why they charge so much for such a cheap part.
