  • When being fragile means being weak and vulnerable, then the term anti fragility means: the increase in capability to thrive as a result of stressors, shocks, mistakes, faults, or failures.
So if our goal in life would be to live a vibrant thriving life, then becoming anti fragile is the key.
But what is the key principle to becoming anti fragile?
Well if you look at how we become fragile, we can build upon that knowledge.
When astronauts go to space and lose gravity, their muscles won’t be used anymore and will waste away or atrophy.
So not coming in contact with a stressor like gravity, would make our muscles fragile.
On the other hand, if we would workout 24/7, our muscles would also break down completely and become weak or fragile. So what is the key to thrive or to live a strong and powerful life?
The key lies in the duration and the intensity of the stressor followed by recovery time. When we allow ourself brief interaction with stressors, with shocks, with mistakes, with attacks and failures, followed by a time interval of recovery, we will become stronger or anti fragile.
For example when we lift heavier an heavier weights we actually create microscopic cuts into or damage our muscle fibre, which will recover and grow in combination with the right nutrients and most importantly enough rest or recovery time.
So if we want to tap into our strongest, most resilient, vibrant anti-fragile state, we have to allow short interactions with stressors, shocks, mistakes, faults, and failures, followed by a time of recovery. That is why good quality sleep, which is the most important for recovery, is crucial to become anti fragile.
    So if we recap,
Trying to live in a cocoon where there are 0-stressors, makes us only very weak or fragile.
Allowing ourselves short interactions with stressors, followed by recovery makes us stronger or anti-fragile.
And chronic interactions with stressors, without any recovery time makes us very fragile again. So the sweet spot is alternating between stressors and recovery time.

This is like a diagram of 10 whole years of my life, took me so long to understand this. It's been just over a year now since I started moving back in right direction. Thank you so much for making this. I'll keep it to remind myself of the journey that I took to get here, lest I repeat it again accidentally.

This is pointless because people don’t have control over stressors. If you are a child being abused by your parents, you will be subject to long term stress and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it!
