- Artemis, if you don't know anything about her, then know this: There is no Lara Croft without Artemis. There is no Princess Mononoke without Artemis. There is no Wonder Woman without the Greek Goddess of the hunt and the moon, because Artemis was simply that influential. She was the original female boss, and every aspect of this goddess is mind-blowingly fascinating... and shocking. I mean... you saw the thumbnail, and... I wasn't exaggerating: Artemis really did get her hands dirty, but all of that came with the territory: As the goddess of the hunt, the moon, of women, children, animals and the forest - Artemis had a lot of responsibilities, and as you might have already learnt throughout my videos: Every god that is in charge of something good, is also in charge whenever the opposite happens: If you rule over health, you also rule over disease - that's why people pray to you, for the bad not to happen. This is true for Artemis and women, Artemis and animals, and... also for Artemis and children. And that's where parts of her story take a bit of a turn into the dark and unexpected, but... you'll see all that now, in today's episode:

So I already touched on one thing above: I am aware that Artemis (or any of the Greek gods for that matter) does not make it a habit to go out of her way and be evil. I am aware that these dark stories serves as tales to remind us to pray to the gods, but still... they are stories depicting the gods doing horrendous thing and I'm looking at all of this from a storyteller's point of view. With that in mind, do also remember that mythology is a very tough puzzle to piece together, because all of these stories are thousands of years old. With Greek Mythology, we are lucky because the Athenians prided themselves on documenting everything, but because of their thirst for knowledge and education, they also produced many great storytellers, and with a lot of storytelling comes a lot of embellishing and regional differences, so, over time, we ended up with a lot of variety and room for interpretation. For the sake of this video - and all my videos - I try to streamline all of these tales and versions as much as possible and leave out some details that might make the videos less fun.
So... is this accurate and well researched? Absolutely. Is this the only interpretation or way of telling you about the Artemis? No, this is my way to tell the story.

Fun facts. It was theorised on my college class that originally, Artemis was the goddess of Wild, much older than Apollo who could be borrowed from some other nearby culture/island culture.
In short, as we know, Apollo was at first god of civilization, everything happening during the daylight, what later became god of the sun, while Artemis was goddess of everything else hapening during the nighttime. Which naturally involves nice things but also sudden death, kidnappings, and other bad stuff.
Cult of Artemis also predates cult of Apollo, even Oversimplified made video about it, look it up, what may have been turned later into story that Apollo was brother of Artemis that was born later.
Artemis was one of the cults whose origins are mostly found in the hellenistic people's own ancient origins.
Apollo is most likely the God of the Wild Hunt, akin to Fionn in Ireland, Rudra in the vedic tradition, and Odin.

I’ve only found you recently, and I really like your videos! Are you interested in any other mythologies than Greek or Norse? I know with even just one ancient culture’s stories about their gods gives you so much content to work with, but I’d personally would be very interested to see videos in this style about different Mesopotamian or Mesoamérican myths. All the same, your work is awesome, and I look forward to seeing what you do!

I remember you talking about a anime about the Greek and Norse gods and I have just the anime for you and it isn't record of ragnarok. It's called Is it wrong to try and pick up girls in a Dungeon or for short Danmachi. Set in the fictional city Orario, DanMachi follows the life of Bell Cranel, who serves the goddess Hestia by retrieving crystal shards that can be found in the underground Dungeon by defeating the monsters that live there. In return, he grows stronger.

According to some writers, Zeus transformed himself into the figure of Artemis to pursue Callisto, and she slept with him believing Zeus to be Artemis

It is important to remember the word maiden back then just meant not married and virgin is often interchangeable with maiden. Artemis is very special to me and you made me laugh. The stories are just that. But her energy is real. I think you did a good job of showing how powerful she is. I would rather be on her good side.
i know this question has nothing to do with this video but i was thinking can you imagine the sheer horror and pain if both Zeus and Loki was part of the same pantheon i mean big daddy thunder would be busy trying to stop Loki from causing chaos on Olympus he would have no time to be a flamingo or any animal for that matter to try and get women and Loki from what i have learned from your videos would not care about the mortals like the Greeks would he would rather be to busy messing with the gods
