Wiera Gran speaks about Warsaw Ghetto.

It must have been a bitterly poignant coincidence - to be a Jew, to stay in the ghetto and to have the same date of birth as Adolf Hitler had: April 20th ! That was the case of Wiera Gran; she was also born on that day. And she happened to witness severely the celebrations organized by German authorities of the Warsaw ghetto with the aim to please their Führer within the days of his holiday - sophisticated and brutal actions against defenseless inhabitants were carried out especially then.
In the film interview, made in Paris around 1970, Wiera Gran is expressing her observations during her stay in the Warsaw ghetto (early 1941 -- July 1942) and is giving a testimony to what she witnessed herself.

(...) and in the Warsaw ghetto, weren't you afraid of those round-ups ...?
- Of course ! We were scared of them, all the time.
Germans used to come to the ghetto every day - let us say at noon, I cannot remember precisely - they would walk through the entire ghetto. Some officers in the open cars, dressed with elegance as usual, and behind them the prisoners were transported in a truck - back and forth. The road from the prison to the Gestapo headquarters led through the crowded streets of the ghetto, there was so little space in the streets, you had to push your way among other people...
They were hauling those prisoners along that street for the ..... interviews...? [hint of the interviewer: interrogations !] -- Oh yes, for the interrogations.
Prisoners were transported in trucks to the Gestapo, which was situated in the other part the ghetto. Driving very slowly through the crowded streets, Germans - in a bright light of the day -- were amusing themselves in such a way that they were pulling up quickly behind the crowd and were beating passers-by with huge sticks from the rear. At the end of each stick, there was attached something very sharp and cutting, I do not know what it was, a knife or something like that ...
Very often, such a single blow could cut the head of the person which was on their way down through into two halves . If someone did not jump away in time or did not manage to hide somewhere in the gate of some house or in the shop, he surely would die on the street.
After their passage, the road that they left was usually full of corpses.
They were very pleased with these actions, really looked as if they had great time.

The whole interview lasts 15 minutes; for the internet medium purposes I decided to show a selected piece of it and for the same reason the image is covered with the water mark of the owner.
Transfer of both, sound and picture, synchronization process and conversion into digital format was a very difficult and costly task. -

Co za głos! Wiem, że temat mega ważny, wiem, że historia pani Wiery była bardzo trudna, ale jak słyszę ten głos to nie chce mi się czytać napisów tylko go słuchać - pięknie brzmi, jak mówi; jak śpiewa - również.

W wywiadzie pani Wiery moją uwagę zwraca pamięć szczegółu, co potwierdza Jej rzetelność w "tamtej sprawie", gdzie pamiętała o rękawiczkach na rękach tamtego pianisty. Miałaby się mylić w tym, że kazał Jej przynieść zaświadczenie z UB?

You kindly gave me a previeuw of this historical document by Mrs. Gran her horrible
experiences in the Warsaw ghetto.
Its very admirable that after such an inhuman suffering she still tried to live a normal life in France.
I am sure that every day she had to pay an heavy price for being an German Wartime victim like millions of other people !

I've been in Paris last week, cementière a Montmartre, there I've found some sculptures with memories of jewish people they've been murdered by the Nazi's. So long time ago, but never forgetted, God give them freedom and give us hope that never ever there will be such a genozid.
