  • Hi Everybody, I've just thrown a few nice clips together which we filmed on Sunday 20th 2020 and made them into a video. It's turned out quite nice, hope you enjoy.
    I'd be very interesting in anybody commenting on my walking at the moment, thanks. And, as always I'm very interested in any comparisons to your own walking.

    I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better!! It is nice to see you up and walking and still can smile 😊 Praying you continue like this! Your last video, you were so down and sounded so hopeless. But this time, you look and sound much better 😊 You and Teresa are the most cutest couple🥰💕 That in itself is something to smile about!! Take care both of you! Until next time... your friend Kelly from the USA 🇺🇸 😘

    Dear Neil, Dear Teresa, your garden is so pretty! And much eork also. I do have a big garden and it needs a lot of work, but looks great and gives me the relaxing area I need to calm down on bad days. Great to see the meds you get are helping. And also great to see you out in the sunshine with coffee and some sweets from Teresa! So nice to see you as a couple! I am still having lots of pain and spasms in my legs which makes standing up from a chair or the couch almost impossible and so painful. The first steps are still wobbly and shaky and very slow. MY walking distance has decreased to not more than 5 steps (with a cane or walker). I am sad and hopeless, cause my neurologist denies steroids during the pandemich which could mean 1 year or more without steroids in the wirst case scenario. Well, I can't do anything against it, but argue with her and hope she is having a good day. I am in quarantien. I do not go our in public since End of March. There is noc risk of getting infected with Covid-19. But still she is not willing to let me have steroids. Cross your fingers for me. my next appointment is October 26. Have a good time both of you, best regards, Britta

    • @NeilBradleyMS
      @NeilBradleyMS  Před 3 lety +1

      Ahh Britta, it's so good to hear from you but when Teresa read out your message to me we were both so saddened to hear that your having a hard time at the moment. As you know, I KNOW what it's like to go downhill and get worse knowing the ONLY thing that will make me better is the IV Steroids. I think they have the same effect on you as they do me, and they pick you up, reduce pain and improve mobility etc.. generally give you back a little bit of quality of life. It INFURIATES me that the Dr's are playing God and refuse to give you this life altering treatment. This happened to me also, but not because of Covid. On my birthday back in 2018 I started with 3 days of consecutive IV steroids, immediately I felt better but then they continued to leave me for 14 months with nothing, I asked my MS nurse many times to have the steroids but the answer was always NO because they never considered me as having a relapse. They say they only offer IV Steroids for relapses. It's so ANNOYING though that there is a drug that does wonders for me (and you) but they refuse it. So sorry.

    How did I miss this latest video!
    Very pleased to see that although you are still struggling Neil, you're outbin the garden, and enjoying the sun.
    Please to hear that you've devised your own exercise routine. It will help you. I know this from personal experience, as I'm involved in a CP Movement Challenge at the moment. I'm using my cruches to get about more. I'm finding that because of the Challenge, I am happier than I've been for a long time. Obviously we are all different as human beings, and it's important that we manage to do what we can do. Some days are better than others.
    Your garden looks really nice, and I totally get what you mean about wanting to finish what you start, rather than ask for help.
    I never doubted that Teresa would make you a cappuccino.
    You're doing great Neil. Never forget it mate. 😎

I have to say the CP Movement Challenge sounds something to really get your teeth into and keep you focused. Good on you, and I hope you continue to enjoy this. A little birdy tells me your 50 today, just thought I'd wish you a Happy Birthday on here as well. Have a FANTASTIC day my friend.

    @TealStarSusan Před 3 lety +1

    Just thought I’d pester you two a little more Neil! I hope you are doing ok. I know cooler weather is better for you..and you are certainly getting that over there. As you know I’ve been waiting for my hip replacement..well in the interim my hands and right thumb became even more painful than ever...and cutting a long story of several visits to hospitals and specialist I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. In both hands! According to the tests the left was worst, but gave me less pain, while the right was less damaged but being my dominant hand was..blooming painful. Neurosurgeon agreed I’ll need both hands once I have my hip done, so casually told me he’d do BOTH hands on the Friday. That was Monday! So here I am one week post surgery and hands are really sore, the right doesn’t like whatever cruel thing has been done to it and and makes me swear a lot...due to sudden zinging pains ! Oh joy. Davis cuts up my food. I drink through a straw - even tea as I can only lift my espresso cup! Stitches out on the 6th November...Life can be such a yes, pain! Again much love to you both from Portugal 🇵🇹💖💝💖

    • @NeilBradleyMS
      @NeilBradleyMS  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Susan, sounds like you are continuing to go through the wars .. and now your hands!. I suppose I can understand where the surgeon is coming from, being able to regain strength in your hands prior to having your hip done. Didn't give you much notice though. Apparently there is a very narrow gap for a nerve to travel though into the hand and over time it gets a bit squashed causing pain, the surgery expands the gap somehow. I expect the pain you're experiencing post surgery will be swelling, so once that subsides you should start to feel much better. I know somebody who recently had this surgery and seems to be ok now.
      Teresa and I are ok I guess, quite a lot has happened (with me) but I've not made a video recently as I'm just not feeling very motivated. I always try to keep up with comments on my channel though.
      Take care - Neil & Teresa. 💞💞

    Hi Neil, I have to pace myself as well with most daily tasks, do a bit , then sit and rest , before doing a bit more !! It’s annoying at times , but it’s what we sometimes have to do I suppose. Well done for tackling those gardening jobs , give yourself a pat on the back . Glad to hear you’re feeling better , and having good days with less pain. Say hi to Teresa , take care both, Grace

    Looking good my friend and probably better than those days have passed. Hope you are well Neil and Theresa and you are progressing better than last time we talked. As we press on with the battle that wages against us. It has been good with me and it has been somewhat perplexing since I have been having cognitive issues with forgetfulness and m8splacing things. But my neurologist has assured me that they always have new medications that help. I hate that reassurance because it is experimental. Whatever works, works. But dizziness has subsided and still looking for a mate to have for communication and help. Pray for me. Hope you and Theresa are moving forward and staying positive. Love you both. They are cold with temps ranging from as low as around -5 to +8 or +10, and although I like to see some snow it's quite rare. We get more of the wind and rain type weather over here. But occasionally we also wake up to the lovely cold crisp sunny morning which, as long as the central heating is on I quite like. Best to you.

    Hello I love your channel and your videos are such a big help. I was watching one last night and you spoke about "the knives out". I thought I should share as I actually found a way to stop that for me because when it happens I feel like I am being stabbed in the shoulders repeatedly and my arms were dying and going to fall off but I haven't had to deal with that since I stopped eating peanuts and peanut butter and sunflower seeds which are just as bad though they affect my legs more with burning and heaviness. After learning this I have been trying to maintain a lectin free diet. Lectins are in most foods (tomatoes, brown rice, corn, most things with seeds eg: green pepper skin and seeds... we are very sensitive) and are in a huge amount of foods recommended for an ms diet so many don't know they are eating food that hurts them. You can see Dr. Gundry on youtube explain inflammation and lectins, lectins and autoimmune disorders and he has daily videos on how to incorporate not eating these into your life. I have found myself being able to function again and to stop debilitating pain attacks. One of the most important things I have found is that most of my excruciating pain will happen within an hour and a half of eating food I can't handle or being around some type of toxin that I can't handle. I hope this helps. You're both really awesome!

    • @NeilBradleyMS
      @NeilBradleyMS  Před 3 lety

      Hi there, thank you for your message and your very kind words. I too have noticed for a very long time that my pain will ALWAYS increase after eating a meal. And, like no doubt you have also noticed different foods have different effects on pain. Back in 2007 when my symptoms first start, every time after eating a meal my hands would start to burn, and my finger tips would feel like they're pumped up and so very painful. Today eating a meal brings on a condition called "Uhthoff's Phenomenon", which worsens my mobility and weakens me further albeit temporarily. I'd like to thank you very much for bringing your discovery about Lectins to my attention, I'm going to do some research on them as it certainly sounds interesting. As much as I like peanuts I rarely eat them, but I've just done a bit of a Google on Lectins as I didn't know what they were. So they are a type of protein found in lots of food, including things like milk and certain vegetables etc, very interesting and it's good to be aware of them. I'm so pleased you're having some great success with your diet, which in turn is having a positive effect on your pain and hopefully improved mobility as well. Lovely to hear from you - Neil

    Hello my friends. 😀👋
    I know how you feel, when I enter that mood I call it "hibernating", there's usually some cheesecake or pastries involved 😁
    Exercising was a big thing for me last year but, I injured my back and my abdomen muscles. It was a slow recovery and I feared getting hurt again. As a result, I strayed so much that I don't know how to start again, specially during this pandemic. I too need to be really disciplined. Having a serious Accountability Coach could help me to be more aware of not only what I'm not doing but it helps me to be motivated as I concentrate on my progress. It's a hard place to be when I used to be that "go to person" and now I need the help but no one can help. Figures 🤷🏻‍♀️ But, enough about me.
    It's always a treat to see you both smiling. Please let us know more. I for one have learnt a great deal from your videos. It's been a blessing.

    I watched this video about a day ago, so I don’t remember if you mentioned what I’m about to talk about, but I know it has come up between us recently. I’m talking about what I think you’ve called a concrete block in your lower back.
    I think I may know what you’re talking about, but it’s new to me or new to me again. Since my mobility has improved, I’ve been able to use that part of my body a lot more. I pretty much didn’t use it at all for at least two years, since I haven’t stood up in over two years. I’ve spent almost all my time laying down on the couch, and I spent the rest of my time in a sitting position, with a backrest absorbing much of my weight above the hips.
    Anyway, I’ve found that I can stretch that area pretty good by laying face-down on my bed and pushing up my chest, with the hips still contacting the bed. It’s like bending over backwards, which of course I can’t do because I can’t stand up.

      Hi Ryan, yes I describe the stiff and spastic muscles in my back as concrete because to me that's pretty much how it feels like. I would say they are one of the primary reasons why my mobility has been soooo bad over the last year or so. I describe in detail in my previous video "SLEEP DEPREVATION" how they effect me, and talk about their vital role in not only standing but also balancing and walking as well.
      It might be good to focus a little bit on these muscles for yourself, as well as your core muscles (if possible). It's only when things started to go wrong for me, that is when I realised how different groups of muscles actually WORK together in SYNC. For an able bodied person, they wouldn't even notice because everything just WORKS. It's when things start to go wrong, you notice how things go OUT of sync.
      Now that I'm actually on a small amount of medication to treat this (Clonazepam) and I'm taking opioids for the pain, I feel my mobility has improved a bit because these muscles seemed to have 'softened' a little.
      Hope your doing well.

      Yeah, I don’t know if people realize how important their core muscles are. I know it’s become a popular term the last several years, but I know almost everyone has never experienced the importance of core muscles how you and I have.
      I never thought about how important they are until mine were mostly gone. Before the last year or so, when I had some leg muscles, it became easy for me to understand how important the core muscles are. Particularly at times like in my latest video where I show a small improvement in my ability to walk each day (July 2018). When I’m on my feet beside that fence, you can see how wobbly I am. That’s all because I’m trying to keep the top half of my body from falling over. If you can’t hold up the top half of your body, you can’t use your legs (to walk), regardless of how strong your legs may be.
      I know benzos do a really good job in that department, but be aware that they also cause weakness, which can complicate things if you’re already weak enough. It’s why benzos are one of the three types of pharmaceutical I’m willing to take, but it’s also why I’d take them very conservatively if I could actually get any prescribed.

      The butt muscles are really important, too. Lay on your back and start bridging. Pay attention to your butt muscles.
      That’s the same motion you have to make to stand up. I guess that means I’ll probably be able to bridge whenever I can stand up. Or maybe right before it. Right now it’s not even fun trying.

      @NeilBradleyMS  Před 3 lety

      Aimless Ryan Yep, agreed. I try and do five squats twice a day if I can which help strengthen the Glute muscles. Usually I’m not strong enough to do them a second time. Just don’t have the energy sometimes.

      About five years ago, for several months, I used to go to the YMCA and walk 2 or 3 miles around the track with my walker five times a week. After busting my ass for months, I never really made any progress. Which is why I know the videos I make that show progress every day or whatever are important.
      When I can make more progress in one day than I can make in five months, by working considerably less during that day, I call that a win. I’ve experienced both of those things. I want that to happen again, and I want that to happen to other people, too. And it should. And I think it will happen to me as long as I keep getting treatment. It’ll be slower unless I get the dosage I’ve asked for five times, but it’ll happen.
      I can’t show a lot of progress yet, and sometimes I wonder if it’s not gonna happen like I expected, but I also know things are not the same as it was before I got my prescription changed. Which is evident in the fact that I’ve made 30 or 40 videos since the end of June. I couldn’t have done that before getting my prescription changed. Which is why I didn’t. In addition to lots of other reasons.
      I think the biggest reason why I’m not showing the progress I expected is because OxyContin really did steal all my muscles. It takes leg muscles and butt muscles to stand up, and I just don’t have them. I’m trying really hard to get them back, but it’s hard to do when you can’t really move. It would be a lot different if these muscles were just weak enough to keep me from standing, but they’re a lot worse than that. I keep trying. I’ll get there.
