  • The Secret Religions of the West, Session 2 of 3
In his first talk at the Mere Simulacrity conference in Phoenix, Arizona, in December 2022, James Lindsay introduced the idea that there is a long, running current of "Secret Religions" in the West. These are the Modern and Postmodern manifestations of the Esoteric Religions like Gnosticism and Hermeticism as they developed through what we might consider the Middle Age's "New Age" period, famously codified by G.W.F. Hegel. In the second lecture in his "Secret Religions of the West" series, Lindsay explains that these "philosophies," including Marxism, are actually mystical Esoteric cult religions posing as science, economics, and politics, and that their success in infiltrating our religions, societies, and institutions is down to their intrinsically parasitical nature. They mimic and illegitimately claim the language and structure of the things they pretend to be and bring destruction and madness into the void they create. Join him to understand not only this but how the "handshaking" balance between Reason and Faith is the only way to stop Gnosis.

I've been thinking lately that Tolkien was really onto something with the expansion of the 'Ring' concept. The original story is that becoming invisible in attempts to escape responsibility was a corrupting impulse, Tolkien took it further that the end, the one that the ring would serve alone, was an evil Tyrant willing to dominate all forever. So seeking to avoid responsibility for what you have done will always fail, but the ultimate end is tyranny, usurpation of God on earth. Seems very correct, this expansion of the concept to it's end. I think this is Leftism today. They refuse to admit their murderous mistakes for the past century and are trying to distort reality and tyrannize the ability for people to object, or even think to cling to their refusal to admit they are wrong, were wrong, will always be wrong.

Just had an image of an old school house in the 1800s where kids of all ages are in the same class. They would go to school for three primary reasons: learn to read, write and do basic math. That's enough to get any individual set up for life. I'm 75 and only participated in the first three years of learning, but it was at a Catholic school where us ADHD Irish boy street kids were not allowed to not learn. Those nuns saved me and other street kids like me--no one else was there to supply the basic tools for freedom, unlike street kids today who get no foundational education at all, just incessant propaganda manufactured in sexual liberation workshops, the entire point of education now. Once a child learns to read and write with proficiency, he-she is as free as one can be as ground. Precisely why masses of children are not being given that gift of freedom. The Left is not about freedom at all, but ideological indoctrination and control.

This newly minted (and obviously destructive) myth from the Left that children can even choose to have their breasts lopped off and get castrated reminds me of what happened in Germany with broad acceptance. Kind of sums up why we call it the Mystery of Evil. This lopping off of girls breasts and the mutilating of boys penises is something even Hieronymus Bosch couldn’t imagine happening in Hell.
This is something that could only come out of a raving lunatic’s mind, who in the past would be living most of his time in a strait-jacket in a mental hospital feeding off bugs, and yet today is honored and applauded from our university elites. I've been coming to this realization for a few years now... what MAGIC is. What magic words are, what wizardry is, what witches are. Magic words are the speech that the gnostics use to manipulate people, to "put you in a spell". it possesses people, it gets otherwise smart people to accept concepts that everyone KNOWS to be false. That's what magic has ALWAYS been.
This is what they refer to in the bible. "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live". Its saying we cannot tolerate the people who use the "magic words" to manipulate people, we can't allow them to gain a foothold in society because they get people to live a life of lies.

@@k1_w3 Yes, but gnosticism is the heart of demonic possesson. Gnosticism is born in the mind the second ADAM (Man and Woman) ate the fruit and entered into a "possessive ontology" where the man now seeks to posess the woman, to become fully god in his newly formed gnostic universe, and the woman seeks to possess the man for the same reasons, and they seek this because they are now addicted to a possessive ontology rooted in KNOWING the entirety of the moral univese on their own autonomous terms absent God's influence, ENLIGHTENMENT absent God, after biting into the fruit. In other words, gnosticism is birthed into the mind in that moment, when each one of us becomes aware that his-her own knowlede (gnosis) is the center of the moral universe. And now we see, as James Lindsay makes absolutely clear, a gnostic assault on Faith & Reason is rampant, rampt up to mob violence and total chaos, every little god running around now, especially in K-12 education and at univesities, insisting on what he-she knows as a god of his-her moral universe, which IS the universe, and you better adapt, or you'll see another gnostic mob forming, dammit!
In their minds, being as distant from God's mind and the mind of Reason one can arrive at makes one closest to being a total arbiter of life and how it is to be lived or destroyed. And the Left is the dominant, collective gnostic force of our time, determined to destroy Faith and Reason for one reason only, as Dostoevsky made clear in Notes from Underground, having nothing to do with what is reasonable or good: "Just to do it, dammit! I don't need a reason! I killed reason and your faith!" (not a quote fromt the novel, but a dialogic summation of his deconstruction of Kant's prison).

This point James makes early on about sorcery, got me thinking about solutions.
My daughter right now loves Aladdin. In the movie, Jafar desires all the power, and his second wish is to be the most powerful sorcerer in the world. He begins to wreak havoc. Then Alladdin tricks Jafar into wishing to be an all powerful genie. The reason this is a trick is because the thing that goes along with being an all powerful genie is LIMITATION. A genie must live inside of a lamp, only to emerge to serve the wishes of he who rubs the lamp.
The problem we face, perhaps, is not how to limit the power of the sorcerer, but rather, how to trick the sorcerer into becoming a genie; a being whos fundamental characteristic is limitation.
Just a thought, it's okay to laugh.

    • @Cerberus984
      @Cerberus984 Před rokem +27

The lamp would be an official declaration it's a religion as while it has protections it has limitations in particular being taught in school.

    • @HimmelsDaemon
      @HimmelsDaemon Před rokem +3

For that specific example; Jafar is seeking to be the most powerful, "tyranical," and Aladdin has _unique_ knowledge that he learned from Genie himself. Jafar doesn't know that, but does know genies are powerful, or if not, he can realize the logic that Genie will give him his power, but he can also take it away. (Of course another genie could probably take it away still, just as they can remove their binds if it's wished for.)
Remember that someone can still hold the lamp, even if it may be a very long time or if ever someone frees them. With Jafar, he losses control, likely set to serve petty others... and while he can still influence them, he's more likely to nastily punish whomever he servers for having to server them (the other traditional idea that a genie will twist your wish). Or, looking at that, he becomes a poison towards his own ends.
In a way, you could probably say that Aladdin out sorcelled the sorcerer. That _limitation_ is more specifically binds, with genies, being bound to servitude. That idea may be useful, and a possible way, but the cosmic power is something beyond or other then sorcery (considering the distinction, even if in error). That would also perhaps be part of the warding created between _reason_ and _faith,_ creating binds upon those who may wield [human] power. And "binding" is more fit with all the other views of everything. Could look at as Jafar seeking to being unbound, and being sorcelled himself into becoming and accepting becoming the most completely bound entity: all powerful, yet eternal servitude. (Or going along the idea of "those that see/feel everything as binds, made to experience actual binds" also. Though Jafar is too "high" for that, more so lessers/acolytes.)
But to talk more of Aladdin... Jafar is the adviser to the Sultan, aka. the court wizard. Jafar's sorcery is portrayed much akin to hypnosis, and falls when the Sultan is distracted or manages a realization against Jafar's suggestion. The Sultan is extortable and also has trust in his advisor.

@@lieshtmeiser5542 Gnosticism is a loose movement for lack of a better term, thousands of years old. The people in these groups have been persecuted many times in human history, for various reasons, like many groups have in the past. They have been used as easy scapegoats, since it is so easy to misunderstand their beliefs.
At best, they have in common a belief that the physical Universe is an imperfect creation, put here by an imperfect and lesser God, usually referred to as the 'demiurge'. This imperfect God is below the One True God above all, what Gnostic texts call The Great Invisible Spirit. Another common belief is that humanity has a 'divine spark' which aims to return to the One True God after this life.
Some view that imperfect God as evil, others view the demiurge as a well meaning, but flawed God.
Point is, Gnostics are generally people who are trying to understand their world with spirituality, just as many others are. The beliefs many of us hold are quite diverse and varied, and for many, Jesus Christ is a central figure. Gnosticism is not in any way tied to political movements.
To tie an entire 2000+ year old spiritual group to modern ideas like 'woke culture' and 'cultural marxism', to say that 'Gnostic' movements have parasitically infiltrated modern day discourse to destroy our society, requires us to ignore a lot of the Gnostic's history and beliefs. It requires us to ignore all the examples contradicting this. Like the fact that a good portion of the people frequenting Gnostic forums are of the right-wing conspiracy type. Moreover, there is overlap with many other groups, like Thelema, The Freemasons, Hermeticism and others, none of which are tied to any modern political movements.
What really gets to me is not misunderstanding itself, it is the fact that we have people in these comments declaring their will to 'fight against these enemies', all based on a warped 'understanding' of Gnosticism. All because they heard some nonsense on a james lindsay 'lecture'.

I grew up in an agnostic, materialistic home and the only source of meaning (food for the soul) was through my mystical practices.
I learned through meditation that I was not my thoughts, mind, or body.
I had respect for them and I knew that my thoughts and feelings were primary in my experience, but I did not derive a sense of self from them.
For example, I would search for the 'I' (self) within the thoughts and quickly I would see that I could not find myself in them, or anything for that matter.
For this reason, I was not compelled by my thoughts and feelings.
I saw them as 'forces' and I humbly asked for a higher power to show me how to deal with them.
James is right about being arrogant because I would think things such as "oh that person over there thinks they are a person" that makes them less than.
But I see things differently now except that its more of a spectrum and everyone is slowly 'waking up'.
This stuff is so engrained I have no idea where to start...
After trategy last year, I realised how little I knew and how much I was deluding myself.
I looked to my fellow man to show me things but I am yet to find a coherent throughline except for doing 12 steps.
Doing 12 steps has shown me how to hubmle myself and ask for help.
I still feel that there are some really nasty manifestations of christianity in that they fear of eternal hell to trick people.
I see christianity as having a few major positives.
Admission of sin and forgiveness practices (repentance). This is known to help recovering addicts to stay on the path of recovery despite having relapses (except in this case its called self forgiveness).
Faith - meaning that there is a level of humility which says its ultimately up to God to decide how my life is to play out. I can do my best but my will is second to God will.
I always felt that it was my job to calm my mind, connect to the wisdom of my body and to be open to guidance from above. It was made to be very like "god speaks to all of us all the time, we just don't listen".

Actually, Gnostics were part of the early Christian movement that could read Ephesians. Paul’s gnostic awakening is unpacked in Ephesians 1. Sophia delivers gnosis with her friend prudence. James is the parasite he lashes out at. His Sokal squared is an example- making a name for himself writing broken papers. He’s an academic parasite, and a spiritual one. The early Christian gnostic message was of personal sovereignty. It had nothing to do with Marxism. The Marxism that James makes popular in his Kayfabe battles at Evergreen is the real problem. Early Christian gnostics existed but “gnosticism” is a creation of Anglo-Saxon supremacist historians of the 19th century. His platform here is historically illiterate mis-information.

The gnostics advocated paying their taxes and lived side-by-side with synagogues into the third and fourth centuries. Why is James acting like this information isn’t easy to come by? Gnosis is greek for "knowledge". Gnosis does not automatically refer to Gnosticism unlike some may profess.
And what is the Bible, but a book of... mystical >knowledge< about God?
Magic is greek for "art of the magus". "Magus" is singular for "magi" which is plural. And the magi, or three wise were they (Zoroastrians) who followed a star by night (yes, astrology is in the Bible) to commune with the Christ Child. When people speak of magic as bad, evil, or of the devil, what they are actually referring to is known as sorcery (supernatural power utilized for selfish purposes). Magic is an expression of supernatural ability for benevolent purposes.
The are plenty of instances in which benevolent supernatural powers are channelled through people in the Bible. These magical instances are classified as miracles by evangelical christians.
So the next time someone says... "All channelling bad!". Really consider the implications of the "Bible-influenced-by-God" dynamic.
Alchemy is greek for "the art of transforming metals (specifically referring to the metamorphosis of the unrefined being [lead] into the refined being [gold])".
Again, there are plenty of instances of spiritual transformation happening in the Bible. Has anyone here ever heard of something called... "Being born again?"
In summary,.. things are not always so cut and dry as one might think... Information of all kinds and sources can be wielded for good or for evil.

So then what is the nature of "consciousness" from which creation and the experience of that creation both emerge. And we ARE THAT, we are I AM THAT I AM. When we awake after sleep, we can remember our dreams, but never think about the "consciousness" mechanism of that, the actual "experience" seems real, and what "created" the experience? Nobody but yourself, both the "content" and the "experience" of the content. And it can be a pleasant experience or a nightmare, and either way you created it, and experienced it. The mystery of that will not be found in any religion or ideology or system of thought, it will only be found within your own self. “As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul…” Hermes Trismegistus But whatever our experience is, we created it, both individually and collectively. And all problems arise out of "denial" of that, the great "self deception"

I would suggest that there are good and bad versions of each of them so that it is not just good faith, good reason and bad gnosis, but various combinations such as good faith, good reason and good gnosis; bad faith, bad reason and bad gnosis or good faith, bad reasoning and bad gnosis etc. Good gnosis is characterised by its alignment with good faith and good reasoning. I suggest care in using this useful formulation.

This is insightful. If I had been exposed to gnosticism and as a teenager, while coming from a Catholic family, but being exposed to a very morally degrading and humiliating high school experience, as well as materialistic science and existential philosophy, I might have had the mystical experience of oneness that could have prevented me from falling into a convenient and somewhat amoral agnosticism that caused me and others tremendous suffering . In my case, reason was weaponized against my faith. One needed a new understanding of what God is.
If one has not had the mystical experience one cannot understand that glimpse of Heaven on Earth. Likewise, if one has never experienced the Hell realm of depression one cannot understand that either.

I grew up in an agnostic, materialistic home and the only source of meaning (food for the soul) was through my mystical practices.
I learned through meditation that I was not my thoughts, mind, or body.
I had respect for them and I knew that my thoughts and feelings were primary in my experience, but I did not derive a sense from them.
For example, I would search for the 'I' (self) within the thoughts and quickly I would see that I could not find myself in or anything for that matter.

Here is a perfect example of an intellectual utterly confused conflating Gnosis with everything from Black Magic and New Age to Marxism and wokeness. Gnosis means one thing and one thing alone: Self-Evident Experiential Knowledge (that which we SEEK on the Path to awakening and Self-Realization of the Being...the "being" in human being).
True Faith is not belief. To be faithful to your spouse, your mortal beloved, you must 'know them' intimately to the exclusion of all others. To have faith in the Innermost Intimate Christ, your immortal beloved, you must be faithful to your True Self, to the exclusion of all your many egos (sins, nafs, demons, psychological aggregates, infidels, psychic malware, or by any name): fear, lust, pride, greed, envy, et al. Faith then, is a matter of objective fact, not belief.
As a biochemical machine, the rational mind is a useful servant, but a cruel taskmaster. Belief (what the esteemed speaker in the lecture erroneously calls "faith") is 100% a product of the rational mind. Just like any theory, opinion, interpretation, et al. Ever wonder why Chat GPT makes stuff up? Because the ego minds of intellectual hominids designed A.I. after the rational mind. The rational mind cannot create. The rational mind cannot know. It only THINKS it knows. It only believes it knows. Only a Triune Human Being is truly capable of creation. Hume (earth: body & rational mind) + manas (Divine mind or Metamind) + Being...the earthly embodiment of the Metamind of Being. A Triune Human Being works with free consciousness to know by experience and interaction with their Innermost Being to receive insight, imagination, inspiration, et al. They use the rational mind as a tool communicate to the world in science, art, philosophy, and religion the Timeless Universal Truths and Truth, Beauty, Love, Wisdom, et al which comes into the world through them. An intellectual hominid operating with rational mind only, cut off from their True Self, have no choice but to be duped by Satan (an amalgamation of all their egos) to believe whatever they are told by others; whatever their rational mind regurgitates; however they have been CONDITIONED. It is not by accident we call it 'the human condition.' Learn more here: czcams.com/video/1LdUnZzexDg/video.html
Note: the ego mind can rationalize every crime/sin under the heavens. It is the rational mind under the influence of sin/ego which has wrought the hellscape we see around us in the world today. Postmodernism was born in the rational mind and Critical Race Theory, DEI, and the whole of the Neo Marxism woke movement was incubated and then subjugated Academia...the very heart of rationalism.
So, our illustrious speaker puts rationalism and "faith" (belief) on a pedestal, and asserts Gnosis (Self-Evident Experiential Knowledge) is a "parasite," something which exists to undermine and unravel the false reality dreamt into existence by ego-mind. If he means Truth, Light, and Love of The Logos is here to conquer the machinations of The Adversary ("Shaitan" in both Hebrew and Arabic), then he is correct. Gnosis SEEKS to disrupt the efforts of The Black Lodge (egos; demons) and the Black Magicians to enslave humanity. But Gnosis is not against ANY religion. "All religions are precious pearls on the necklace of divinity" - Samael Aun Weor. What the illustrious speaker fails to mention (and likely understand) is that there is White Magic. Esotericism simply means "that which is hidden." There is nothing inherently evil about it. But The Black Lodge is everywhere, and knowledge is power. Even though Gnosis teaches love above all, the Black Magicians use their knowledge for their own selfish gain. They serve their Inner Masters of The Black Lodge (their egos). But knowledge in and of itself is no parasite. Lies, half-truths, opinions, theories, misinterpretations, erroneous beliefs, superstitions, fantasies, and rationalizations of ego mind are the enemies of Truth; they rely on conditioning consciousness and the mind to believe subjective shadows of truth. "My truth" instead of The Truth. The Light of Truth sends the real parasites, The Black Lodge, running for cover like cockroaches scattering when a light switch is turned on. These are the objective facts.

@@archaicsage4803 Actually, True Faith is Self-Evident Experiential Knowledge...that which we SEEK. To be faithful to your spouse, your mortal beloved, means to "know them" (in the biblical sense) intimately...to unite with them...at the exclusion of all others. Likewise, to be faithful to our Innermost Essence of God, our Immortal Beloved, means to know them intimately and consciously...to achieve religare (Latin: union with divinity, root word of religion) and yug (Sanskrit: union with divinity, root word of yoga) with our Innermost Being and Divine Mother.
In the Middle Ages, if one testified at a trial, one "gave faith." Faith meant that one had been a witness to; had direct knowledge of. To this day, even devout believers proclaim, "testify!" The evidence of the True meaning of the word faith linger, even in religions.
"If anyone would be with me, let him take up his cross and follow me." - Jesus of Nazareth. Faith is a matter of being with the Innermost Intimate Christ...not believing. "To be or not to be. That is the question."
So you see, having "faith" as "belief" is a horrendous degeneration of the word. It was deliberately appropriated and made to mean belief by the Black Lodge in order to confuse, confound, and corrupt humanity.

Great lecture. The negative disposition is warranted and understable, but it is of utmost importance to avoid blind conflation of gnosism as a general concept and solipcism and sophistry, as it has been weaponized by the "woke" group.
Seeking to understand the universal similarities between religions is not a bad thing. It will be hard for current Christians (or anyone still subscribed to a single religion) that the concepts embodied in your sect are present in many other schools of thought under various names and presented through slightly different allegories.
The theosophists and anthroposiphists are not the ones at fault here. They are curious to understand the truth behind the various 'mysteries', also known as the occult. Gnositicism is not the antithesis to "first principles".
The people pushing the 'woke' agenda have no interest in objectivity or truth, as James said. Only employing what he called "sorcery" or "magic", or the twisting of words and meanings to construct a false reality, and specifically one that artificially benefits those who end up in power.
It is good that these terms and concepts are being brought to light, but it seems James has dug himself into the same circular logic loop that he claims (rightfully) to be critical of.
He makes the SAME EXACT mistake of the "opressive reactionary" by building this entire lecture upon the premis that 'gnostics' are inferior and dangerous and that they must be put down and curtailed. Exactly the kind of scapegoating he went on to condemn, again rightfully.
    Witchcraft, blasphemy, heretics, etc...
    And so the cycle continues.

But, it's clear to me that Smith is actually deeply jealous of Neo's existence and freedom. Smith is a self-aware virus: he wants to be free, he wants to be a 'real boy', as it were. He actually hates himself but projects this out onto the world. This is made clear with his famous speech about 'humanity is a plague'.
The remarkable thing is just how many young people today actually think Smith was the good guy in a way, and support his 'humanity is a plague' speech. These people are Agents of Chaos. That's what Smith is, and that's what young viewers who agree with him are. They are leftist, materialist, secularist, gnostic, utopianist, anti-human types.
