16mm is such a stunning medium. The 'digital look' is ever-changing but film always feels familiar - maybe that's why people describe it as a 'timeless' look? Shot for the experience Bru!

In this CZcams clip the video content was interesting enough and well edited enough to make the iPhone look good.

"With film you really have to think of every shot". Couldn't agree more with this and think that's what makes film so special. You only get x number of shots or minutes you can get out of it so every second is just as important as the next. I also think cause of this it forces you to think out the box and try get shots you wouldn't have gotten if you just had a digital camera.
Anways keep up the work! Really love the videos and appreciative of your efforts !

i think knowing that you only have a finite amount of film to use forces you to think a little harder about each shot, and causes you to shoot with purpose in a way that digital can't. but at the same time you're going to be less likely to try new things to get a really cool shot for fear of wasting the film. film is a great teaching tool.

Well that is the thing. It only works like this because of your personal memories. I dont have that and i hate film look and film grain. I love how modern digital camera shots look with clean sharp image without any grain and noise

I had the privilege of shooting 16mm for two of my shorts and I have to say it is super fun and rewarding. I think using the tool that fits your project is important and if I am going to spend the effort of writing a script, hiring actors, and putting together a crew for a short film it is worth it to go the extra mile and shoot it on 16. The iPhone footage works for a vlog, but the depth of field feels fake and digital, the sharpening is too crisp, and you can tell it is shot on something cheap. For the same price you could get a mirrorless cam and probably fix all of those issues, but the feel that film gives will still be superior in my mind. The other fun thing about film is that you don't just get a digital file at the end of it. You get a physical reel that you can throw on a projector. It is a tangible reminder of the thing you spent a lot of time and effort on. Thank you Dan for doing this experiment!.

    Just discovered your channel!
16mm is absolutely my favorite, the random grain makes it feel alive…
The colors and how close it is to the human experience of sight.
The production valuing your videos is absolutely amazing just subscribed!
    Sending some love from Paris.

Ohhhhh😍😍 the 16mm looks so super awesome soft with beautiful colors and a great dynamic range. There is some miss focusing (cause to operate that camera needs DP + Focus puller), but it looks fantastic like dreamy adventure memories. Great job👍👍👍

WOW I learned so much from this video Dan Thank You. My real take away was to be more aware of what we are shooting with more purpose in the edit to get a more film look and feel kind of vide. Keep Creating your changing the world.

16 mm had texture and ambience can I say that about a film. it added something really special and even though all the pictures were the same content, ambience,
qualities of the whole frames and the whole continent were just not the same at all it was magical versus clinical

While the iPhone has obvious better image quality less noise etc I must say one thing.
The artificial blur in the "cinema mode" and "portrait mode" etc looks disgusting. Edges are blurry and the effect is nothing like real depth of field. Like a weird glow throughout large parts of the video.
