This worked for me, I can’t believe it actually did. I noticed my coolant levels were really low last week and I’ve been trying to find a leak since. I never found one, so I was fearing the worst (head gasket). I wasn’t overheating, smoking, etc so I decided to try a new cap first thing this morning and sure enough, the bubbles stopped and everything seems to be back to normal on my 5.7 Hemi Commander

I'm having overheating issues on 2010 sebring 2.7L. I've tried replacing the cap and thermostat which was costly but coolant sometimes bubbles and steam comes from the overflow tank and the car overheats. The next day the car will run fine until i put more fluid in it or it runs out of fluid. Doesn't seem like a head gasket leak but I'm going to check that next. Normal signs like milky oil or white exhaust are not present.

Dealing with the issue as well. Cap was already newish. replaced Water pump (again hemi issue) and thermostat. Heat was blowing cold. Let it run for a while with cap off. After thermostat opened I got a few major bubbles overflow of the radiator. Heat came back.Hopefully just a huge air pocket in the system. Still worried about the head gasket.
Hey man did you ever figure it out? My charger is having the same issues. 2014 charger RT. Coolant resovoir boiled one time but the car was not over heating at all. It was around 210° in temp and steady. A/c was on. Coolant seems low a lot. Also my heat was cold as well! Until my car was warmed up and driven a little. Any ideas?
Had that issue in my Chrysler, its a minor head gasket issue, my car would overheat randomly, pretty much if my heat is blowing cold air then my car is getting ready to overheat. I did temporary fix with blue devil head gasket repair.... until this summer will change head gasket😩
I have a 2006 Chrysler Sebring coolant boils into the reserves no white smoke and it’s only overheated once on the highway and on my way back home it was fine. Imma change the cap tomorrow and hope it fixes it

Hey man, first of all there's nothing wrong with a v6 so don't let anyone give you BS about that. You may still have a little air in the system. I had a v6 before but it had a bad water pump. I would check your cap again maybe the 2 to 3 years it could have gone bad and it's the cheapest option to start with

Dude, on my bmw, hoses are pretty firm, when i open the cap it burst out lotta water, its pressurised, dunno why, but car isnt overheating. What could be the issue?
Radiator cap has the same mechanism as the thermostat, its suppose to release excess pressure above 18 PSI, its the most overlooked part of the coolant system...car can overheat if never change👍
@@robbydarnell7531possibility if you have system similar to a jeep setup...other than that it would be the thermostat but worst case a mild head gasket can also cause bubbles
Hey bro, I have the same issue with my Mazda RX8, no white smoke just bled off cooling system and filled coolant still the same problem, the temperature stays a little past the half mark on the temp gauge on dashboard which is high for me but it stays there, doesnt go up. But the cap seems fine, should I change it anyways? The thermostat was removed by the previous owner, maybe because we live in a tropical environment or something
If the thermostat was replaced maybe they used aftermarket one. My 06 SRT was doing that same and believe me I was worried but after looking it up this was normal. I replaced mine and went with 180 thermostat which lowered my Temps so it was a little below half mark. If your car is not overheating don't worry about it. Check the coolant to see what it does and if it's normal save up for a performance thermostat made for your car.

I would look at the cap for damage gasket like mine. If you just changed your Thermostat you may need to bleed the system to remove air. The cheapest way is to change the cap an your thermostat
We having same prob same car but it will try to run hot changed cap still same thing . It boils an forces water out the hose hooked on the reservoir so it’s like something is blocking flow through coolant system car has plenty power we drove from Houston an drove two more days then now this problem. Didn’t run hot driving from Houston . Hoping it’s thermostat

I would check your cap to make sure but I most ask when you replaced the water pump did you bleep the system? You most remove air from the system if not the car will overheat an or damage the engine. Check your cap if it is old I recommend replacing it. When I replaced my cap I had no issues again.
Abraham Brown I think I’m okay. I blead the water pump to remove the air out the system. I open up the air port right before the thermostat and I begin to pour 50/50 antifreeze in the reservoir until I begin to see fluid drain from the air port . I used a 3/8 bit socket to remove the nut. I left sit and a hour later started in up let it run to see if it bubbles in the reservoir. test drove it for an hour and brought it back to find it good. @@Daize504 change your cap first since that's the cheapest before doing the thermostat. If you already bleed the air I would look at the cap. The gaskets may have leak or is old. You do not want that gasket breaking into the system.
@@lating35boy45 hmmm maybe a leak. If you already checked all of that I would say take it in for a leak test. If not double check to make sure you are bleeding the system correctly. Let the car cool off open the bleeding screw a little and let the car run with heater set to max high. Once you have a steady flow close the screw but be careful not to hurt yourself. If you are not too sure drive it to a shop slowly when the system is cool and ask them to do it. Air in the system can be bad. I think you have a leak, sometimes they say check the Reservoir if it is too old replace it because it could be leaking and they are not expensive.. at list mine is not. I think I paid 40 to 60 for one on my old SRT and it took under an hour to replace.
Engine Head gasket blown... something you down want. Cheap gasket but have yk take apart motor to get to it. Labor is abt 1500. Another telltale for head gasket blown is white milky oil
How much smoke are are talking about? Per comment about yea you could be dealing with blown head gasket an if so I would not be driving it. If it's a small amount it could be plugs but I would not rule out the gasket.
Well the smoke was just once for like less than a minute when i was on the freeway. I pulled over and saw the bottom of the car wet so I thought oil splashed or something. But when i got home and popped the good the coolant reservoir was boiling and coolant coming out from the cap and dripping to the bottom of the car that’s what the bottom was all wet so I thought maybe when the coolant hit the exhaust pipes it smoked
@@DavidDiaz-vi1xx did it overheat again? You may need to replace your thermostat .. The cap is cheaper and faster. If this only happened once maybe you had air in the system because the cap was not closed properly.
Hey dude I have a 99 Lexus GS 300 a little late but I replaced the rad cap ,thermostat , new coolant and I have no heat also but my coolant tank boils like crazy no other effects though besides the boiling any ideas ?
@@Dylan-ct4hg hmmm but it's not over heating? I would take it to a shop to get a pressure test.. maybe it is leaking air from somewhere into your system. If you don't see oil mixed with you water you should not have a blown head gasket and it you already replaced the thermostat I suggest a pressure test.. I think you are still getting or still have air in the system.
@@Dylan-ct4hg bleeding it does not require the heater.. you should have a bleeding screw you would unscrew a little that coolant comes out of it.. if you not sure I would take it to the shop and have them do it because air in your system is bad.. Secondly with the heater not working you may have something else going on with the car.. a bad thermostat but you replaced that so maybe water pump but something does leak before they go out.. at list my old chrysler 300 did.
Turning your A/C on does not cool your engine or coolant down. Your engine fan spins once it hits a certain temperature not just when you turn the fan or A/C on.
True fan comes on with it hits the appropriate temperature. The fan for the AC is the same fan for the radiator so won’t it pull fresh air and cool off the radiators coolant before it hits the assigned temperature
If anything when overheating always try heat. The heat in your car is all produced from your motor so running the heat on full blast is your best option. If anything running the AC requires more power from your car making it run hotter.
I had the same issue I was stunned that just a radiator cap made such a big difference

The pos 2.7 has the same issue, change water pump, timing, thermostat and my cap is fucked so THANK YOU MAN!!!

You may still have a little air in the system. I had a v6 before but it had a bad water pump.

Did you bleed the system to make sure you don't have any air? I would start with that and replace the cap.

Mine came on whenever I tuned the key on.
You maybe having other issues
Abraham Brown it was the radiator cap that was making the coolant go right back to the reservoir once it got warm . Now I’m having idle issues 😐

I changed the cap.
Make sure you don't have air in the system. Once I replaced my cap and made sure the coolant was to the top. Issue was gone.

Yes, after I replaced the cap the problem was gone.

I get the same issues from my century. Usually it's air that gets in the system. When i bleed it, it stops

@@Daize504 change your cap first since that's the cheapest before doing the thermostat. If you already bleed the air I would look at the cap. The gaskets may have leak or is old. You do not want that gasket breaking into the system.

Check water to make sure it's not mixed with oil.

If you already checked all of that I would say take it in for a leak test.
If not double check to make sure you are bleeding the system correctly.
Let the car cool off open the bleeding screw a little and let the car run with heater set to max high.
Once you have a steady flow close the screw but be careful not to hurt yourself.
If you are not too sure drive it to a shop slowly when the system is cool and ask them to do it.
Air in the system can be bad.
I think you have a leak, sometimes they say check the Reservoir if it is too old replace it because it could be leaking and they are not expensive.. at list mine is not. I think I paid 40 to 60 for one on my old SRT and it took under an hour to replace.

Engine Head gasket blown... something you down want. Cheap gasket but have yk take apart motor to get to it. Labor is abt 1500. Another telltale for head gasket blown is white milky oil
How much smoke are are talking about? Per comment about yea you could be dealing with blown head gasket an if so I would not be driving it.
If it's a small amount it could be plugs but I would not rule out the gasket.
Well the smoke was just once for like less than a minute when i was on the freeway. I pulled over and saw the bottom of the car wet so I thought oil splashed or something. But when i got home and popped the good the coolant reservoir was boiling and coolant coming out from the cap and dripping to the bottom of the car that’s what the bottom was all wet so I thought maybe when the coolant hit the exhaust pipes it smoked

The cap is cheaper and faster.
If this only happened once maybe you had air in the system because the cap was not closed properly.
Hey dude I have a 99 Lexus GS 300 a little late but I replaced the rad cap ,thermostat , new coolant and I have no heat also but my coolant tank boils like crazy no other effects though besides the boiling any ideas ?

@@Dylan-ct4hg hmmm but it's not over heating? I would take it to a shop to get a pressure test.. maybe it is leaking air from somewhere into your system.
If you don't see oil mixed with you water you should not have a blown head gasket and it you already replaced the thermostat I suggest a pressure test..
I think you are still getting or still have air in the system.
@@Dylan-ct4hg bleeding it does not require the heater.. you should have a bleeding screw you would unscrew a little that coolant comes out of it.. if you not sure I would take it to the shop and have them do it because air in your system is bad..
Secondly with the heater not working you may have something else going on with the car.. a bad thermostat but you replaced that so maybe water pump but something does leak before they go out.. at list my old chrysler 300 did.

Do you have a Hemi? If so did you change the radiator cap first then the thermostat an it worked for you?
Turning your A/C on does not cool your engine or coolant down. Your engine fan spins once it hits a certain temperature not just when you turn the fan or A/C on.
True fan comes on with it hits the appropriate temperature. The fan for the AC is the same fan for the radiator so won’t it pull fresh air and cool off the radiators coolant before it hits the assigned temperature
If anything when overheating always try heat. The heat in your car is all produced from your motor so running the heat on full blast is your best option. If anything running the AC requires more power from your car making it run hotter.
