i will most definitely make it again probably next day it is cold again
I'll make this for cold weather and for the sick
i love it it was great every time i have made it
I cook the pasta separately if I’m going to have leftovers and/or plan to freeze the soup. This prevents the pasta from getting mushy when reheating.
I always cook my noodles and potatoes for soups and stews separately to avoid all that starch as well.
Good idea
Yes absolutely !!
Also for anyone who prefers rice,
Over of pasta,
Can just pour hot soup over your rice or pasta 😊
I do this also!
The noodles soak up all of the broth too!
I was looking for a quick chicken noodle soup recipe yesterday to take to a church dinner after caroling. I’ve never had people ask who made anything that I brought before! I had so many people seek me out to ask questions! As I was leaving a lady said “don’t loose that recipe” so I came back to save the video and thought I’d leave a comment too.
I had to put it in a crockpot to keep warm while we were caroling so I wish I had left the noodles a little al dente since they had to sit a little while before we ate. Besides that, I made it just like the recipe except increased it 50%, and I added a little oregano.
I make my chicken noodle soup like this but I prefer medium egg noodles. Seems to be substantial enough not to get lost among the chicken and vegetable pieces and I enjoy the flavor and texture. I love Julia though. My favorite ATK personality.
Yup. This is a basic method recipe. Adjust the vegetables and noodles according to your preferences.
Yup same, I use egg noodles, so good

My fiancé bragged about his mother's chicken noodle soup. He asked can I make some I told him I have no idea how. His mom is 81 years old. Bless her heart. She made him a pot. When he brought it home he couldn't wait to share so I could taste it. One bit & he took my serving and said he lost her touch. He looks like a little boy who' s world got crushed. I decided to make him feel better. I found this recipe and when I made it I told him it was soup from our local grocery store. He fell in love with it. When I told him I made the soup he asked me to make it every week. Thanks to America's Test Kitchen I was able to bring back his love for this soup. Even made it better than mom. Wink Wink.
Looks so good. I also love adding a grated potato to chicken soup to give it an extra thickening richness as well. The original comfort food.
Never thought of that..... making this recipe tomorrow I will grate a potato in 😊😊
genius idea
Made this tonight. The best chicken noodle soup I’ve ever made. I bought Amish noodles. They are thick & hold their density & shape; don’t get mushy. Also made Lawson’s pear spinach salad. The dressing is delish. Both were so flavorful & satisfying
Do you have a link for the salad? Thanks!
I love this woman! Hard to say which I appreciate more, her knowledge and skill or her humor. Really fun to watch and will tey this recipe.

@@martinaskupin9549 it’s obviously not an english lesson
@@rustyfan89 It´s obviously not a chicken soup or anything similar. This is something made for pigs.
I really don't know why people watch cooking videos and then comment about how they make theirs and it's better. If you already know how to cook, then why watch someone else?
I feel the same way, like when they say I made this recipe but instead of this I used that and instead of this I used this instead, well then you didn’t make the recipe you made your own, whenever I find a recipe that looks interesting, I always make the exact recipe, no substitutions, then if I make it again I may make some alterations and use this instead of that!
@@rustyfan89 A co-worker wanted my recipe for beef stew. She substituted damned near every ingredient and then told me that MY recipe wasn't very good. I told her that it was HER recipe that wasn't very good, not mine.
@Mlife1972: Don’t know. Maybe they are comparing their results to the professional and want to point out how their results are better (in their minds!)
How's yours?
Bro wtf 😂
I think your thoughts on celery are the same as the majority of people. My siblings and I hated celery, but now we all love it. I like it's diversity, because the root is a carbohydrate, the stalk is a vegetable, the leaves are an herb and the seeds are a spice. You can literally use the entire plant! It's a valuable addition to any survival garden!
We have 2 varieties of celery, soup and salad, use the soup celery, smaller thinner stalks and lots of leaves. Cannot use a lot, it dominates
I 💙 this channel. Its so clean and easy, simple recipes and they are so comforting.
My husband cannot get enough of this soup. I followed your instructions, but used my instant pot. The darn thing has been intimidating me long enough, so I used the sauté button for everything and was still able to create the fabulous frond at the bottom of the pan. Thank you for sharing this recipe, I am super pleased to have found you. Much continued success and blessings.

Julia I have made this chicken soup. This makes the second time and it is the best I have ever tasted. You have done a wonderful job teaching it to me. Thank you so much please keep giving the recipes I love them. I.
Julia, I love your video's been a fan for longer than I can remember. all started with your TV shows, you are a rock star and a legion.
This is hands down the best tasting recipe. My girls loved the spaghetti noodles. And yes all the people commenting 😅 go get 2 million subscribers then maybe....maybe ..some one will care. Great video , great lady , great soup 🍲❤
She's always so explanatory when she makes her recipes - love it 🍲
I made this for the first time yesterday and also gave my mum some. It's absolutely delicious, especially with a crusty hot roll!!! Hubby was impressed too!!!! Thank you for the video....... Happy New year xxx
The larger, shredded pieces of chicken make such a difference, from those almost invisibly tiny cubes of chicken in canned soup. Also, I most often make this whole-bodied soup, a couple of days after roasting a whole bird.

Adding a Parmesan rind would be nice, too, while everything is cooking-just remember to fish it out before serving.
I love these two women they are awesome I always watch their shows these ladies get 10 stars from me great job. thank you!
2/27/23 omg i just made this chicken noodle soup again it is wonderful I love this recipe. Please keep putting them out. I like your recipe and it was great. I have made the soup several times and I will continue to make it. Thank you.
there is a time and a place for tinned soup - for me it was during college - these days (am a young senior) am happy to use recipes like this and make my own - we had first “good” frost of autumn 2023 so time to start making soup again 🇨🇦🙏
Julie - I completely enjoy all of your videos, but I continue to be amazed at your knife skills! I'm gonna make this today and thanks again
OMG you nailed it with the celery...You are right....all of a sudden I love celery...It is a great veggie that I am rediscovering. in the past I would never put celery in my soups, now I cannot live without it. So I guess I am not the only one.
Love this sort of simplified 'real thing". Going for it this week. Adding more veggies because I love them and cooking noodles on the side. I cook for myself only, so having fresh egg noodles--pappardelle are the bomb,i imo (I think adding some cooking water from the noodles might help though). I like that this is a managable amt of soup for one or two people. I see these guides using a whole chicken--just way more than I want to bother with. Also Julie is so much fun to watch, has a love of cooking and food that is so contagious.
So enjoy making soups, the chicken soup looked so good, so quick and easy, and not expensive. Thank you.

Love the recipe. Perfect presentation. Thank you!
I love America’s test kitchen and a few other cooking shows….learned so much.
I love the carrot tip the half small side and quarters for the other side. Also I always grew up with egg noodles with chicken noodle soup. Sooo good. I have to say unless you are going to finish the soup that night the rest of the noodles will be soggy once you put in fridge. I learned that one a long time ago. I agree about the extra pot- but the whole soup will be wasted as a leftover if it gets soggy and blows up into your soup once in the fridge.
REAL chicken soup, old-fashioned, with noodles czcams.com/video/r-seUnF-a94/video.html
To avoid getting mushy pasta when I want pasta in my soups, etc., I cook it separately. I cook enough for the next day, too. When I'm ready to serve, I put the pasta toward the bottom of the mug. I don't even have to reheat the pasta because the heat from the soup does it for me. Don't pre-cook too much pasta because it will turn sour within a few days.
I make the noodles separately and add them to the bowl right before serving.
@@cw2256 I add low salt or no salt chicken bullion to pasta water
Thanks! Your a pleasure to watch and learn. Happy New Year✨
I'm soup lover. I'm going to try this chicken noodle soup recipe. Yours is definitely the best and easiest way. Thanks for teaching us how to make our own homemade soup.
I can't imagine Chicken Noodle soup without Sage. I also find the best noodles are homemade. They are easy and fast to make. I use a manual pasta machine.
Great, simple recipe! I do my weeknight soup like this as well. I add 2 things:
1. Deglaze with white wine before adding the broth.
2. Add 1 packet of gelatin. It adds that lip smacking texture you get from cooking down cartilage for hours.

Have been watching you for years, way back. Love that recipe. Will make it next time.
Love the format and the recap at the end! Thank you! LOVE ATK!! :D
Sooo delicious, I have made 5 pots of soup so far. Turns out amazing evertime..😋
Awesome! i like your presentation, straight to the point, no wasting time. I subscribed. Keep up the great work!
I love adding the juice from about half a lemon or a whole lime it is so tasty & fresh. Sometimes I Grate in a little ginger.
You make it your own. I added extra of the vegetables, dried Italian seasoning and a pinch of tumeric. And orecchiette pasta because.
We made it our own using these techniques and the results are really great.
Would lemon extract still work?

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL JULIA! GREAT JOB!!
Made this yesterday. Didn’t have chicken broth but I used beef broth. I was low on carrots and celery so I used potatoes and corn substituted rice for noodles and used sausage instead of chicken. Tasted great
So you made some kind of soup, but it sure wasn’t chicken noodle soup.
Then you didn’t make chicken soup
Hi it’s so nice to have found you both on CZcams! I make chicken soup about every 10 days or so. I’m going to try your method. Thank you. Based on what you showed me, I cook my soup too long.
Love it. Is easy and doable even for someone with full time job outside the home.
Best chicken soup I ever had! And I'm 70yrs old! Thanks ATK.
I'm battling a cold/flu at the moment (great way to start the new year), and this looks soooo good right now!😋
The one my granny used to make! Thank you....making it tomorrow!
Love it. Never miss Cook's Country, it's set on PVR.

I also cook my pasta separately, because the pasta does not become mushy and suck all the broth up when there are leftovers.
Also, I put in more carrots and celery, and use 1 onion. I boil
1 whole chicken with a onion, 2 carrots, celery for 45 minutes till
done. Let it cool and take it off the
bone. I use the homemade chicken broth in the soup ! Everyone loves this soup !
I agree the pasta can make the soup cloudy and far too starchy. I also use WAY more veg and don’t bother adding stock as the whole chicken creates that anyway. That said if one is using a few pieces like 3 here the stock will fill it out with water.
I made this last night and we really enjoyed it. It was a perfect rainy night dinner and are looking forward to left overs for lunch:)
I'm making this right now and my house smells heavenly. Love the recipe!!
Different techniques - test kitchen always has great ideas!
This is perfect for heading into the fall. A great easy soup recipe is invaluable.

Hi from North Wales UK. 🙋♂🙋♂ Definitely be trying this, thank you so much for sharing.
I liked how she made this chicken noodle soup. It looked fantastic.
I'm with Julia on the celery transformation. I grew up thinking of it as a stringy vegetable with no redeeming values. And then, at some point, I developed the ability to _taste_ it.
Same thing with cucumber. I never really saw the point. Then I had a roommate who would often prepare sandwiches for himself, and always with cucumber. I started noticing the smell of the cucumber while it's being cut. It smells like melons. They're botanically very closely related, but my nose hadn't made the connection before.
Next time you want to make yourself a toasted bagel with cream cheese, lox, capers, onion, and dill*, add some thin slices of cucumber. Get the skin off first to really make it a treat. It is transformative. It takes something that was already stellar and somehow kicks it up a notch. And we're talking, like, you buy an average-sized cucumber, and we're using like 5% of that cucumber per bagel.
*I mean, that _is_ the point of buying bagels, right? Oh, except also there's pizza bagels. I love a Neapolitan-adjacent pizza, but I also love a pizza bagel. Come on.
Cream of Celery soup is awesome in the Summer, you can cook it early in the afternoon and let it cool, then ad your Cream or Milk just before serving, nice and cool and YUMMY. Celery boiled for 30+ minutes then blended with a stick blender there's no strings if you cut into 1/2" thick slices, and blend for a minute or two.
If the Strings in other Recipes bother you, use a paring knife on the small end and work the blade under two or three strings enough so you can put your thumb on the strings and squeeze them on to the blade, then then pull the knife toward you as you pull all the way down the stock until they come off...I'm sure there's a video somewhere if you need more info. DeStringed Celery was Mom's thing to do for those Veggie Ranch Dressing Platters that were popular at Party's, or the Celery Peanut Butter or Cream Cheese things.
And celery is a negative calorie vegetable. Meaning it costs more energy for the body to digest it than the calories it actually contains. If that can help giving you a positive opinion about it.
great recipe. In my family and community we make soup in order to make a little protein [chicken] go a long way. I double the veggies, and I like to add leaks. and fill the pot to the top with water. Mostly we start with half a cup of 4 in one dried veg [black lentils, red lentils, split peas, barley] , or just half cup pearl barley; soak the dried veg for at least 20 minutes in 2 cups of tap water and then boil slowly for at least 30 minutes before adding to the soup.
Absolutely beautiful soup, Julia! Looks so very comforting, as well as, ❤ hearty. This recipe is a real keeper. 😋

Well, my wife use to make this, in her recipes file there was not, so I am a fan of Americas Test Kitchen and saw you make this soup. I just now finished my second batch and its just as good as my first. Thank for sharing this.
💕Very heartwarming!
💫But I do prefer to use a leftover rotisserie chicken especially for the broth! I am sure Test Kitchen does the same! Keep cooking country‼
I've tried many different chicken soup recipes, including ATK's other, pressure cooker, recipe. For the amount of work and the best overall flavor profile, this is the best chicken noodle soup.

I cheat and use a rotisserie chicken. Mostly by consuming most of the meat myself before making the soup. Then deboning the rest of the meat and roasting the bones. That's the trick.
And then there's no need for store bought broth
Yes me too
Like it much time saved!
Thats cleaver! Sounds great.
Yes, looking to render our Costco spun chicken. Thinking about just throwing the bones into a pot of water for a while
The most flavorful chicken noodle soup I have ever made, and easy too. I seasoned the chicken with garlic powder in addition to salt and pepper, and did not discard the skin but chopped it up along with the chicken meat (prefer chopped versus shredded). Thank you for this amazing recipe. Most of the time basic truly is best.

classic recipe, classic flavors. nice job.
Well, now I've made the recipe twice, using a pair of chicken breasts. It's delicious! It also doesn't last long enough in the 'fridge for me to worry about freezing it - I end up eating it for lunch 3 or 4 days in a row, it's that good.
Learned a couple new methods today! Thanks! I've never browned the chicken first, and I don't know why not. Looks like it adds a nice color to the soup, plus it's got to add a nice flavor! I've never used spaghetti either, using egg noodles instead. I'll be trying both when I make the next batch. 🙂
love your recipe, easy and one pot! I also try it with cooked rice, delicious!!
Made this tonight. Best chicken soup I’ve ever made.
Thanks for your recipe looks delicious ❤
Tried it and it was oh so good!! Added some green peas, and a few chopped potatoes and used penne pasta, bomb!!!
Thank you so very much! I loved watching yall on public tv. Now I've subscribed to your channel right here. The hubs is sick today so I'm on my way to the store to gather the ingredients to make this soup.🥰 BE WELL😊

Thank you for the great recipe😊
*Don't discard the bones or the skin.* Use them for the soup. You don't need to buy broth. You just freeze the bones of the chicken pieces you eat. When you have at least the bones of 2-3 full legs (6 bones plus trimmings), or 6 chicken wings (plus the other little bones), you put them in a pot with 9 cups of water plus 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and simmer it for 2-3 hours. The cartilage parts will become edible at that point. Strain the bones, and you have a good broth useful for any recipe, including this one. You can freeze it in portions too. I have read that if you brown the bones in the oven, the broth will be golden and tastier, never had done it, unnecessary for my needs.
The skin, you simply dice it and add it to the soup. It's delicious, a bit fatty, it has collagen, it isn't poisonous. Unless you have a medical condition and have it explicitly forbidden, you can eat it. Enjoy!
This is a much better idea than using store bought broth! I don't get recipes like this, I might as well just buy the brand name chicken soup, add some herbs, and maybe some left over chicken if I have it. Adding the chopped skin I never thought of doing, but sounds tasty, and will add a lot more flavor. 👍✌
Right?! Never discard the bones! Mine go into the freezer until I have enough saved up to make bone broth too
Unfortunately, I have chickenskinitis and have been told explicitly never to eat chicken skin. ☹
@@kenmore01 Like anything Ken, in moderation. 😁👍✌
Crisp up the chicken skin in your air fryer. Put some frozen hash browns on the bottom and skin on the rack. The skin will give its liquid to the potatoes., keeping them moist and flavoring them as they cook. The skin will dry out and get crispy.
Good stuff.
I am 82 yrs old and I made this for me and my grandson and we both loved it
