"They say money don't buy happiness but money will buy a jet ski and you ain't never seen a sad person on a jet ski!" - Larry the Cable Guy
Money may not buy happiness but life is pretty miserable when you don't have any money😅
Amen
Only because u r living the Joneses. Consciousness fits the individual like a glove. Then we start longing for our neighbours stuff. Then we become miserable.
"People who say 'money can't buy happiness' don't know where to shop." - Lovey Howell
Lol!
I wonder, are there any happy people at the unemployment office?
What people don't realize is that money does not change one, it only unmasks one
Yes. It magnifies what is there.
Money can buy happiness for smart, strong people who make proper decisions in life.
You are a wise person
"Those who say money can't buy happiness just don't know where to shop." Mrs Thurston Howell III😅😅
A lot of these big money family's also had lavish private railroad cars they used to get to summer homes etc. It would be interesting to see a video on those too!
This continued into the 1950's.
We had a huge Woolworth's by my house when I was a kid in the 1960s. I loved that store. We weren't rich but someone always had 5¢ or 10¢.
Money can’t buy happiness, but I’d like to find out for myself.
The spending excesses of the ultra wealthy never cease to boggle the mind.
I ditto that.
Too much money - not enough intelligence. I'd like to think if I had that much wealth, I would live in ONE modestly luxurious house - not build ten extravagant palaces. In the end, her life ended tragically. Spoiled, neglected children, gay husband and son, mad parties and crazy binges. And in the end, a will that made dozens of lawyers extremely wealthy. It's something right out of "Bleak House."
Narcissism reigns supreme.
Quite frankly, the love of money is the root cause of all kinds of evil. My parents taught me to manage my money very carefully, I am very grateful for that. Thank you.
Money makes you more of what you already are.
I doubt that money can buy happiness, but I am willing to give it a try.
Money is a tool. It will control you if you don’t control it.
This is really interesting! And maybe money can’t buy you happiness, but it can sure make being miserable a lot more comfortable.
Wow..... what a testament of truth.......that at the end of the day, our lives are but a vapor. Once we close our eyes in this realm.......eternity awaits us.....and what will we see?.......a replay of missed opportunities to serve others; serve humanity and most importantly to serve God, Creator, who gives life and the power to gain wealth for good....
Money cannot buy happiness, but it can get you a good time Saturday night.
I miss the Woolworth stores
I do too.
While I lament the passing of Woolworth’s as one of the best stores ever, the family sounds perfectly vile.
most wealthy families are.
source: my wealthy family and their wealthy cohorts
AND PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Money can't buy happiness. But take it from me, neither can poverty!
If you can find a Woolworth today good luck.
Footlocker is a division of Woolworth
They turned into Foot Locker
@@IntrepidMilooccupies the old Woolworths building on State and Jackson in the Chicago loop, or it one time did after Woolworths closed. Not for sure what's there now I don't go downtown that often anymore.
@@IntrepidMilo Thank you for this, Footlocker came about from Kinney's Shoes which was aquired by Woolworth.
If your money has not brought you happiness, I will be happy to take it off your hands my friend….
I enjoyed shopping at Woolworths on State Street back in the 90s in my early 20's. I also was a fan of Goldblatts, both are no longer here in Chicago 😢
Money may not buy happiness- but I certainly wouldn’t mind giving it a try to see for myself!
…I sure don’t come from enormous wealth like these guys but I’ve inherited quite a delicious amount of it. My family is from the town of Atherton in the peninsula of the SF Bay Area. I now live in my dearly beloved Grandmother’s old house (built with her 4th husband). She did manage to keep 2 more properties in the area and one in Woodside from her previous marriages (she was widowed 3 times before she was 30, the 4th lasted 25 years). So with all that said I have a very easy relationship with money and I managed to build it and spend it wisely. So money has brought me freedom, a good sum of it. In my realm of living, I tend to consider happiness as a choice. Life is all comprised with moments and in every moment you can either choose to go thru it happy or not. Then you rinse and repeat.
Great presentation Ken❤
Thank you
Money can’t buy happiness but it sure makes a nice down payment on it !!!
Wow! The stories of these fabled homes are mind-boggling. There is a lot of money, but vast amounts of ugly decadence. Probably only the workers building and furnishing these homes "profited" from them: the owners surely seemed a bit off-the-rails! There was a Woolworth's in our small town; growing up in the 50's, and forward, it was a wonderful business. It had a hot-dog cooker in the front window of the luncheon counter. Watching those hot dogs on the rollers was mesmerizing. We never could afford them. To this day, I wonder what they would have been like. Do you know what happens to the furnishings, fabrics, and woodwork in these homes you present to us? They would have been so luxurious. Love these videos. peace
I remember Woolworth’s. I loved going to their diner. We still have a 5 and dime store in Northville NY.
Very interesting history. TY
What a sad story😢
Such a great video because of the truth you shared about money. I didn’t hear anything about philanthropic efforts at all. I believe that would have changed much of this sad story.
You bet your sweet arse, money surely can buy happiness. 😆
Fleeting happiness maybe.
1. Money cannot buy happiness - but it can rent it. 2. As often as I've read about Mar-a-Lago, I had no idea it was originally home to Marjorie Merriweather Post.
Me too, never realized!
Mar A lago was a beautiful mansion until donnie boy ruined it .
The Post Estate tried to give the home to the US government to be used as a summer white house. The gift was rejected because of the high upkeep cost of the lavish property. Then it was offered to the State of Florida, which rejected it for the same reason-- too expensive to maintain. It was offered for sale to the public at well below $10M but there were no buyers. The brokers considered it to be a "white elephant". In 1985, Trump bought it for $7M thinking he would live there, but of course he soon realized he couldn't afford the maintenance either. Then he planned to demolish thhe landmarked house and subdivide the land into smaller lots for mini-mansions, except that was prohibited by convenants in the deed and the landmark. So he was stuck with an expensive white elephant. No surprise. To get out of the hole he applied to the Town to convert the property to a commercial facility, offering food and recreation. That was approved by the Town with a restriction against residential use except for short periods. Trump violated the restriction by living there all winter until the Town started to enforce the covenant. Trump now lives there as the "live in property manager/grounds keeper" exemption for employees of commercial properties. He only lives in a smallish apartment upstairs from the restaurant. In addition, Trump sold development rights to the National Trust in exchange for federal tax deductions. That sale restricted the lawful use of the property to "private club" in perpetuity. These various permanent deed covenants, Town agreements and tax restrictions are the reason why the property is valued as a commercial property. It can't be used a full time residence (except by the "super"). As a business it has extremely high operating expenses and only seasonal revenue from sales of food and recreational activities (and "dues" for usage). It continues to be a White Elephant, in fact it is worse since Trump acquired it. As part of Trump's deal to lease Town property near the airport for a golf course, Palm Beach International Airport is allowed to fly all outgoing flights directly over Mar-A-Lago, which can be deafening. Cielito Lindo, one of the subdivided parts of the Woolworth mansion is also under this path. It too suffers from repeated jet noise.
@@ozzielinkin I wasn't aware you were Trump's building contractor.
well, if you’re a follower of Douchebag donnie , there’s probably quite a few facts. You’re not aware of just look it up. It’s public record how many suits there were against him from small contractors. And not just Mar-a-Lago many of his projects.
Love it you hear so much about Barbra Hutton not the others, I recently went to New York, my favorite thing to see was going to be the Woolworth building, but they no longer give tours, we just walked in the lobby until they ask us to leave.
Do they still have businesses in the building? Do you reside in it. That's too bad tours are no longer granted. I saw the Barbara Hutton story with Far rah Fawcett a long time ago. I remember Jimmy. I never knew he was involved with Wallis.
@@cocoaorange1 several people live in the building, it been majorly redone mostly condos, like 2 - 20 million. The penthouse which is 4or 5 floor and gorgeous is like over 75 million or more, and part is dormatory NYU.
So interesting!
Loved this one
Too bad about the family dynamics. I worked at Woolworth store for several years, loved working there.
Frank? Jessie? James? I see what you did there 😉
Momma always said money does not buy happiness, although she enjoyed her afflluence during life. Not one of the big name families, but good enough to fit in both that environment as well as her upper middle class reality.
I just am happy she reconciled with God before her passing. Oh, full disclusure: my father disinherited me following mom's death. I'm glad to know where happines is found.
Thanks, for your reports, Ken. I do not recall, Have you ever reported on the Lemp Mansion in St. Louis. There are also some interesting ones in Galveston.
My thoughts are I wish I had the money!!!
Well titled video! I think a lot of people who lived the five and dime lifestyle were much happier than the family who built the stores in which they shopped.
1) Money can’t buy happiness but… can make misery much better!
2) Not knowing how to use much money makes misery more distinct.
3) Insufficient money makes misery look much uglier.
4) Poor people are unhappy too.
5) In our case, if Woolworths didn’t had all this money, would they be happier?
6) Few people with the ability to make money lack the need to show them off.
7) Even Rockefeller whose wife was cooking for the family and his children were tidying the house, so they don’t lose ties with reality, couldn’t resist to live in mansions.
8) Money can be seen as a very sharp and dangerous knife, almost without a handle.
My great grandmother ❤❤
it buys excitement and thats about all
Rich or poor , we all have complicated lives. If you’re a miserable human being , money isn’t going to cure it. My father amassed a small fortune for himself , but he remained a cold , angry man to his sons . I’ll never know why and I stopped caring to know. I hope his ideas of money disappears from my DNA.
Interesting lives story
Money = Happiness
Great
Money buys short-lived happiness..period.
A grandpa, a corporate lawyer, had a client the Windsors freeloaded off of. He had a keen sense of humor. One time he invited him & my grandma out to dinner with them. "What!? I'd never let my
wife meet that 'International Whore'!". The client & grandpa chuckled together & dropped the subject. A lot of that fancy jewellery 'The Duchess' wore was paid for by the Donahues. Stories I
didn't hear probably included warnings about shark infested waters. The client died rich, Grandpa's job "mission accomplished".
I worked at one of their stores in Arlington, Ohio. And I can tell you for sure they didnt even pay their employees minimum wages!! Typical of rich people!!😢😢😢
Jessie is my great grandmother and her son Woolworth is my grandfather.
Money can't buy happiness.. Well I'd rather cry my eyes out in the back of a chauffeur driven Rolls Royce than laugh on the back of a tandem
Money may not buy happiness but it will buy a nice car to go driving around looking for it.
I divorced a wife after 25 years of marriage because she loved her money more than me. I left, came out and quickly found a partner
Many years later she said I looked happy and she was a lost sole. I told her she had her money our kids and her boyfriend she had been seeing whiled married to me. No regrets in my decisions
I think money can buy happiness if you don't let anyone know you have it lol.
Yes! If people don't see a wealthy surface, they think you're broke, and leave you alone.
Money is power. Anybody who says otherwise is naive.
Money is all people think about anymore these days! Money only brings sorrow
I enjoy your story . Could you do Vanderbilt. Consuela, Fernville, daughter of Alva Vanderbilt or do you want on Biltmore house home of Cornelia Vanderbilt, Cecil, George Washington, Vanderbilt, and Edith Vanderbilt. It’s located in Asheville North Carolina.
Note: 🔑 the point of their pain is always a result of "Living through the Lower Mind, aka Ego Mind, aka Adolescent Mind" "where all our negative thought energies reside: fear, hate, prejudice, judging, jealousy, envy, insecurities, preoccupation with what others think, etc".
Regardless of ones Net Worth, happiness is always available in our Higher Mind, where our Positive Thought Energies: Love, Joy, Inspiration, Passions, Harmony, Wellbeing, Creatives, etc, and Wisdom reside.
The 🔑 is to understand the "Universal Law of Attraction", for it is Absolute.
Survived cancer! The havoc created by the cure have not been nearly as easy to overcome. The radiation and chemo caused a heart attack. Probably already waiting in the wings. The loss of jawbone and teeth that are still deteriorating has not stopped. To make a long story short my inheritance has paid my medical bills and won’t end up in the street anytime soon. I will probably end up in the ground from the side effects from the disease.
Poor people can have similar problems
I bought my 10,000 Woolies shares in 1978 for AU$0.54 per unit.
Still got them
🙌🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good work mate.
If someone tells you money can't buy you happiness they are some of the biggest goddamn lairs walking the face of this natural green earth period
You could spoil everything with money, not the other way round.
My god, the slave money is incredible.
CUT THE CHECK
Money does nothing but bring ruin to the spirt and soul….most wealthy people know this first hand…..
If it's your own money.... YES, it will buy you happiness.
If you live off someone and live nicely because of them then no it won't buy you happiness.
Where did they steal all that money from
Money might not buy happiness, but it can buy the freedom to choose, Do I find a job? or not? freedom to travel, buy what you want.. afford health insurance and a nice place to live, and try to help others less fortunate....
MONEY CANNOT BUY HAPPINESS
Money may not buy happiness but Poverty can't buy anything.... so yeah, I'll stick with the money.
It may not buy happiness but it would sure keep you comfortable in your misery!
they had money, but not much else.
Thank the Lord that I'm only middle class.....
yeah well i want rich people problems
👶🏻 Geee geee goo goo 👶🏻
The masks are falling.
With out God you will never know his riches he has for you
I love the series, but i stopped listening just because I couldn't listen to "THIS HOUSE" at the beginning of each episode - urgh, chills. But I thought I'd check back in and it's a little closer to the start and a little less annoying, so it's bearable. But i would still do away with it.
THIS WHOLE STORY IS PATHETIC, A DAMNABLE SHAME, BESIDES BEING AN ABOMINATION TO THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOULD TO GOD THEY HAD FOUND THE REAL MEANING OF LIFE INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I was about 14 years old I'd go to the Woolworths and steal it was easy to steal from them in the early 70 s I'd steal mostly records I'd put them hidden in a board game and I never got caught !
Don't tell my mother !
