I am not a fan of this series. I began watching because I believed a reviewer who gave it high marks. I finished the season hoping it would get better, but it stayed just okay. It’s more about the relationship between the couple than them being spies. These are two people just starting out as spies who aren’t that great at what they do. I didn’t expect them to be experts, but their lack of skill was ridiculous.
People must give it a chance.

I think James exaggerated some instances. must have been really irked by the few poorly done headlocks, grabs etc. because show is really well written. I was expecting some wokeness, girlboss etc. there's none of it. It's show about realtionship. thrilling and quite funny. I really recommend. I have to say it must been one of the best shows in recent years. definately give it a chance.
they made John a incompetent sensitive dumbass , hes that useless he struggles to run an shoot, in one of the episode he spends a whole month moaning about his relationship to a target hes supposed to be killing , needless to say the target "a woman' outsmarts him an kicks his ass with ease an escapes , Jane on the other hand is smarter an all around more capable , she basically does all the work lol typical girl boss, she has to save John multiple times an doesn't really even need him , in fact shed have prob done a better job by herself.
Totally agree. Had a blast with it. The leads have great chemistry and sell the series. This is a show from a movie idea done right. Not that underwhelming FUBAR stuff with Arnold. I can only hope we get a second season.
It’s not even about spies it’s about an interracial couple who don’t even know each other and act like they been together for years. Trash
eh, i watched all episodes, it tried to be funny at times, and it always kinda failed, Jane just didn't connect with me at all, the movie was a fun and good hearted comedy, this just didn't know what it wanted to be, John was somewhat relateable, Jane, not even a bit, no charisma, nothing, i didn't care at all. i liked the cat.
this was trying to cash in on a movie that was fun and witty, but failed miserably as it didn't make any real kind of sense and tried to be too serious and not getting me involved at all. some things made zero sense at all. "random meeting" on a day off... god those characters were dumb. how they didn't see what that whole thing was, i will never know.
the cat thing got me tho, that was the single emotional response this got from me. tho i never believed for a second he did it. anyway... i won't remember this in a few hours, it did make me go watch the movie again though, had more fun rewatching that

i remember my first introduction to mr and mrs smith from 90s tv show with scott bakula and maria bello. that hot chemistry and good fun stories of the weeks. aaah how i miss it

I think he exaggerated characterization of the female character. she might be little full of herself. but she's written as overconfident/cold and arrogant but not in the girlbossy, mary sue way. I think the impression what James give is rather false. i dont think it's fair.

Idk it depends. People loved Oppenheimer, and that movie is mostly talking not showing.. it depends on the material
@@mr.jack0039 yeah they went more realistic and I appreciate that from them. It's hard to get a person in a perfect headlock when they're fighting for they're life on a timed mission so I don't see the big deal with things looking a little sloppy. And Jane and John's competence isn't that big of an argument it's about her being overbearing and him wanting to feel like a partner and not a subordinate.
It was a HARD turn from that first episode being believable stakes, odd pairing kinda intriguing spy show to them James Bonding on ski slopes. I could not take them as seriously getting that much better in that short amount of time. There were good parts of episodes but it turned into this melodramatic sappy story with overhyped characters. I also think Donald Glover has a chip on his shoulder when he audience critiques his work and has a constant need to tell people he is smarter than them so… Also I loved Maya Erskine in Pen15 and Donald Glover in Atlanta, two of the most well written, well acted shows. But the two don’t have much chemistry together.

I don't know what I was expecting or hoping by a reboot/remake/adaptation made by Amazon but up until this timecode I was like ''Alright, alright...doesn't sound too bad so far'' but I was wrong. I know movies and tv shows are generally greenlighted 2-3 years before we see the end results (so we have to keep that in mind) so it makes sense they went with this type of writing because that's all mainstream Hollywood have been pushing for the last 5-6 years: The uninteresting super strong/intelligent/no flaws/always better than everyone female character and the dumb, weak, insecure male counterpart, in literally everything. I know the tides are finally turning because if you look at the box office, it definitely shows that people are tired of the same poor writing. And no, it's not because it's diverse or whatever. That I don't care. True Detective season 4 is showing big time how, when writers have the right to create grey and interesting characters, people won't care about the leads gender, ethnicity, etc

I havent noticed none of this patronizing, selfaggrandizing way of speaking that some modern shows do.
Yeah that part where he goes into intelligence debate didn't make sense at all its not about intelligence is about her overbearing personality and him wanting to do things his own way. Also I don't get where he's getting this idea that they're supposed to be portrayed as world class badassess they're more like normal government workers who are trained in espionage. It's not a spy thriller it's about a couple who happens to also be spies and trying to make a relationship work. There were a few parts where you need to look between the lines John isn't incompetent he's just trying to go at his own pace and Jane isn't a super genius badass she's an emotionally stunted person who wants to be in control.

Mrs and Mrs Smith look like an extended uninspired commercial of what viewers have been subjected to in modern advertising over the last few years. We’ve had enough of that. Thanks for the warning and review James.

I thought it was good, but not anything more. Once I reconciled that the show wasn’t going to go heavy on the spy/crime aspect - which was simply what I assumed based on its source material - I began to enjoy it. I found it worth a single watch. Had some laughs, enjoyed the mains, liked plenty of the guest stars, and overall just had a good enough time. 3.5/5.
How about the 90s CBS television series, of the same name, as a closer version than the '05 movie. Totally love this current series. Praying for a 2nd season, and can definitely see a video game developed based on it 🙏🏿
Husband and i binged it this weekend. I found it a little slow and not enough information on the cases that they were given. It was missing that element. If we knew what and why they were going after each person, it would have been better. It was just ok, and just felt like something was missing, so it felt a little boring at times.
I watched the entire series over the weekend.
The chemistry between the two was amazing. I would like to see that more in movies, and also spill out into real life as well where you have to two people from two completely different communities coming together the way they did.
However, Amazon gave the show a two and a half star rating. There were parts that were dreadfully boring. There's really nothing to build on. The disfunctional married couple side can't continue through the whole series. They have to keep adding fresh ideas. And this is not the type of show for that. It just seemed like a Very long movie. I will not be back for a season 2

I would speculate that the episodes that presented well early in the series were the ones that involved writing from Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
She is not credited on any of the writing of the show, considering she left due to creative differences. I don't now why you would assume this?
Didn't care for the original and have no interest in seeing this. Not everything needs a remake.

As soon as I seen who they chose to play Mr. N Mrs Smith I was out. I can't take them seriously, maybe as a comedy it works like you said. I wish they had chosen better leads to play these characters.
The jack Ryan TV show with Jim from the office as a government badass type vibes. But it was actually really well done. He makes the claim they don't seem like world class badass spies but they aren't meant to be. They're people who have government training and espionage skills and Jane being smart isn't something that's constantly brought up like he claims. It's not woke and has a competent pair of leads so if you can get past the awkward comedian shooting people angle you might enjoy.

Yeah, I was never an interested in the 2005 movie and I’m definitely not interested in this series. I hate the action/comedy/romance genre; the only movie in this genre that I ever liked was True Lies.
Donald Glover is immensely talented actor and writer but I’m not sold on this character being a professional killer. When you watch FX’s The Americans, there is something downright chilling when the Russian spies, remove their day job life masks and revert into their true selves.
Glover’s shtick is being this chill, awkward charm plays into the awkwardness of the situation leads to more awkwardness rolling down a hill till the punch line is delivered.
You're not wrong, but Angelina Jolie is a far cry from Keri Russell. The original film was a goofy comedy/action movie, not a realistic exploration of espionage. So, I'd expect the new film to have a similar tone. Why are we comparing this to The Americans? Apples and oranges.
@@JacobCorenthose True, prime Angelina Jolie is so sexy she can kill with stunning beauty. But she can sell an action scene ( see that kick she sells followed by who’s your daddy now line) because she is in incredible shape.

@@JacobCorenthose Well because one, the Amazon Prime version isn’t a movie. It’s a TV series. Therefore it takes a total departure from the Doug Liman theatrical film. It’s NOT interested at all in action. As I mentioned in the original post it’s about deep cover characters living a dual life. The Americans was probably the last series that remotely came close to this format. As I mentioned in the original post, it’s not even interested in that either as Donald Glover has to do his thing as he does in Atlanta which is make awkward more awkward until he can milk a laugh. And what that tells me, let’s go back to the first post….hes not interested in doing a series about deep cover killer like the Americans. He’s playing a familiar character in streaming, network, or theatrical films…(see Atlanta, The Martian, Spider-Man, etc) which is a shame.
I agree. The first two episodes very promising, but then it all starts to be boring and disappointing. The action scenes are lazy and incompetent.
I suggest you watch Mr & Mrs Smith it in a non-linear order. The plot is too simple to be linear. Try this sequence:
> **Episode 6**: tone and conflict.
> **Episodes 1-3**: backstory and contrast.
> **Episode 7**: climax and choice.
> **Episodes 4 and 8**: resolution and epilogue.
> Skip **Episode 5**: boring and irrelevant.

I don't think I have it in me to sit through yet another show that constantly needs to remind me that the woman is better than the man in every way. I might be able to enjoy it if they both had strengths and weaknesses that complement each other. Like together they can overcome a situation that they would both fail individually.
I know audiences rarely ever "ask" for a movie or tv series, but I feel like no one (outside the show's creators) asked for this one. I love Donald Glover, but I am sick to death of reboots and remakes, so I am going to pass on this. Thank you for your review, James!

the first episode literally was terrible... unreal and awkward timed dialogue... the action scene made no sense... the box switch not being the same weight, the bomb going off and nobody covering ther ears... running into a kitchen with blood on your face and nobody ask any questions... this writing is bad and acting is not that great.. hope it gets better

Glover is just not an actor, stiff, bland, wattered doen mellow, uninterested and very much not a stand up comedian, and Maya ( why is she here and what or who is she, some daughtrer of some rich guy,,,why i she here,,, why is she potrayed in the begining as a smart sexy and we can not see that, why). dialog between two of them in first two episodes is the lamest part of what is most unnecesery thing o listen,,,just blah blah blah./.why is dialog not in function of a show,,, why it doesn`t matter....at the same time i am rewatching Six Feet Under,,, and this is 180 jump to the other side of creativity and intense dialog and meaning.......about acting.....you see the two actors lack of it when they are in a presence of real actors Torturo or Paul Dano(if you are not a movie fanatic, very good example how to watch movies or judge the actors,,,, Torturo and these two on their knees barking)

Thanks for the warning. It will be a skip for me. I’m not gonna watch it. For the same reason I’ve given up on Marvel movies and TV shows. As well as other modern day entertainment. They keep adding the same political element in every thing these days. Who wants to watch the same thing in every movie and TV show? These movies and TV shows are supposed to be an escape from this reality. So no thank you

I refuse to watch anymore race swapped diversity DEI shows like this and I suggest you all do the same or we will just keep getting lame entertainment
