      Depends on your ranking. When you win a lot like the top pros you have to pick and choose so you peak at the right moments. The lower ranked players need to give themselves more chances to go on deep runs, therefore play more. I plan on doing a mix of both

      I think he did fall backwards once or twice but the one's he hits off his right foot, he tries to get his momentum forward as he hits. Plant the right foot, and try to push forward.
      Pro's don't hit falling backwards. It may seem that way but they ALWAYS hit with the momentum forward.

Your backhand is still your bread and butter though. What really amazed me was your returning. You can generate a lot of pace and pinpoint precision with very little to no backswing. You hit a wicked crosscourt passing saving a set / point at 4-5…nice!
    I also noticed you are SO relaxed on your serve! And you returned great…it seemed like either Moreno served to the T a bit too often, and you were reading it and getting a great jump on the return.

    Great job! I think Djokovic mentioned that many top 1000 players have great strokes and, when watching a top player hit with them, you cannot always tell what separates them. However, when it comes to playing matches, that's a different story. The best play great on a consistent basis. Some lower players rise up, and hit "out of their heads" on occasion (beating higher-ranked players), but they cannot maintain that high level consistently. Of course, you have injuries that factor in as well. I tore my rotator cuff severely during my senior year of high school, and I was a head case. That didn't bode well for me. Even though I played #1 on one of my college teams, my shoulder often couldn't recover between matches at times. I was in the PT room a lot doing an ultrasound with the goop on my shoulder. :)

    That was really fun to watch. Practice is different than matches, so I don't know if he was working on something specific. However, from what I saw in that set, your backhand is better than his. His forehand has more horsepower and is better than yours. You have a deceptively good serve (it's hard to read), but again, I think he has an edge. Your return is straight-up better than his, even though his serve is huge. You both move equally well. I think your shot selection was better, which allowed you to edge him out.
    I try to tell people the margin of difference in the top players is slim. Confidence, mental resilience, adaptability, and making quick tactical decisions make all the difference. I'm excited for your new journey. I wish you the best of luck.

    Hey Karue, Watching this from Singapore. I see a lot of stuff in there that I recognise from my own battles. Particularly I felt that when you were up after your first break, you had 2 unforced errors - or rather one unforced and one seemingly easy volley (there probably is no such thing or it in itself could be the reason that we miss those ...) ; followed by a double fault. So my question is: Should you have taken more time and committed stronger on those two shots ? The double fault - ok happens ...
    I felt that in some other situations you also did not commit enough . Then again easy for me to say from the outside - but as I said it is likely also my projection ...
    Bottom line - it was a solid set. Super solid breaker. Very instructive to watch. Love to hear your thoughts on my comments.

He played great in the qualys and then, playing Delbonis in the main draw, he was disqualified for using the shower during a toilet break to clean himself (he had fallen or something and had a lot of clay). @Karue: Should you be transiting in Singapore on way from/to Australia, I will be happy to set up some practice matches here for you. Obviously I will offer to hit as well with you. Can get you reasonable accommodation here too.

    This match is a lot faster than what I'm usually used to seeing from you, Karue. Is it the court, or is it your opponent? Excellent match either way 😊

    Awesome vid. You're annoyingly good. What's at the back of the court? Sounds like Oppenheimer every time the ball hits near the camera

    Karue how is the serve and volley holding up as you transition into bigger event. Know it was integral in the utr tournaments feels like you go for it a little less.

    Sometimes I feel like it's a low quality match when me and the other person can't have a rally more than 3 or 4 shots, but when I see you guys do the same, it makes me think that it's just normal

    • @MyTennisHQ
      @MyTennisHQ  Před 8 měsíci +20

      Nope. That is what most players don’t get. Points are short. The first few shots present the best opportunities to take control of the point. So it is only logical that most points will end within the first 4-5 shots. Serve well and return well and you will be steps ahead of your opponents

      I had the same thoughts as well. I felt the need to have highlight-worthy rallies throughout the match.
      What helped me overcome this unrealistic expectation is watching full matches, both pros and amateur level.
      Turns out highlights are well, highlights. Most of the points are really short. Some longer points are momentum-defining moments

    • @andrehanderson
      @andrehanderson Před 6 měsíci

      The difference is that recreational players only have 3 or 4 shots a point because of unforced errors, while pros only have that many shots because of winners/point construction. Big difference.
