This is what fans want. People passionate about the role. Writers passionate about the story. Directors passionate about the story. The overall story respects the source material. Thats literally all we want and we will pay money for it. Why can suits and writers and directors not understand this? The approach to established IPs being made into movies, video games and shows seem like its the clouds telling the dirt how it is. Its a comically bad misunderstanding of what people want based on projections and egos and completely talentless people pushing their viewpoint and giving notes to their betters because they have a bigger checkbook
YES. 100%.
2024: I don't hink there's enough women in the Lord of the Rings
Word up
To be frank though, Elijah Wood has got to be the least good one in Lotr. Him and Orlando Bloom are, to me, the worst actors in it, just objectively. I mean I like them for nostalgia purposes but they weren't actually very good.
They understand just fine. They just want that DEI and ESG money now a days.
Best advice I ever got:
"Make getting the job.... your job."
that is some solid advice thank you for sharing
I wonder how many actors he was competing against though. Level of competition matters and many of them may have gotten lucky back in the day lol
@asadhafeez7713 probably more then 1. That's why his vhs worked so well
THATS how you get what you want!
There are... Other ways 😏
@@spellrush2097if you’re a woman
You make it sound so narcissistic
Yes, you know first and foremost that it IS yours. This is crucial.
@@thisguyhd6591you interpreted that way. That's on you.
The Lord of the Rings cast were truly a once in a lifetime sort. Lightning in a bottle. Impossible to replicate.
I don’t know man. Dune is shaping up finely against.
@@drewpetitties5168 lmao no
@@drewpetitties5168 I like Dune I really do but simply no.
3 movies and 17 oscars, these movies were probably the biggest movies in cinema history and did everything to get the chance.
And then Amazon ruined it
@trinityastial5161 amazon didn't ruin the trilogy, just that particular show
@@nirvanna21 hence they ruined any non Tolkien fan who could have been intrigued into watching the trilogy are now forever lost because of diversity
@trinityastial5161 I disagree, people will continue to watch and recommend the original trilogy for years to come.
Sad we’re probably not gonna get anything like that ever again, Dune might get close depending on how the third movie goes
Can you blame him? Having read The Script, you'd realise this is a once in a lifetime chance and to be in the greatest films ever!😊
"The casting office refused to send the script to actors."
@@Tauno211in the video it was mentioned that they could read the script in the office but they couldnt take the script with them.
@@Zyxusum I myself didn't listen well enough. I stand corrected
His friend: you know this lord of the rings right
@@legendsofcelestite.officia5398 ok cool but nobody asked
He was wonderful as Frodo.
Am i the only one who thinks that Elijah Wood is already a great hobbit name?
Like he was born to play this role
I guess it's when you know you know. He knew he was meant for the character Frodo
“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” - J.R.R. Tolkien
@@DavidOfWhitehills lovely words. In another word it's what you CHOOSE to BELIEVE & do with the time that you have here.
Wish they would add his tape next time they release more behind the scenes footage.
I know, right!? Daaaamn I was thinking I wanna see it watching this....
I hope I never in this life stop getting lore from the movies. I just love this and makes me enjoy the movies again everytime i watch them.
Excellent comment and feel the same! All these years later, I keep learning new tidbits into the casting/acting/directing/etc. and I can’t picture anything being different
There was a limited edition 4 disk dvd set for each film. Thats 12 discs for 3 movies. 9 of those disc were an epic saga in their own right. They captured the impact this massive human event had on not just new Zealand but the entire world. The fact that they had Tolkien classes including his languages in public schools is just insane to think about. I feel so privileged to have been 14 when these movies released.
I have these box sets. Don't even have a DVD player anymore. But I still have these box sets.
My husband and I have a blue-ray player and have just finished rewatching the movies, and are currently rewatching the "making of" extras on the boxed set. Very fascinating material!
At this point it doesn’t sound like Peter Jackson offered the job, but just accepted that Elijah decided he would play Frodo 💀
😂😂😂
Elijah nailed it 100%. As an Englishman I say he nailed the accent too. I didn't really know him as an actor before LotR and he fooled me into thinking he was English, which no other American actor has done as normally can tell. Legendary performance.❤
He was at FanExpo in Vancouver mid-February and actually told this story about sending his VHS tape for auditioning.
thats something i love so much about these movies - everyone was in for passion for the project and the story. that level of care shows clearly in the final product
Today‘s Hollywood would not be able to create such a masterpiece anymore.
Wood was perfect, the whole world loved his performance. Great choice!
Man, so many incredible events happened to make this legendary movie. The one instance in human history where the stars align produced us this legendary movie and honestly, I dont think it was a waste of our one star alignment in human history. Just perfect, nothing beats these movies, you gotta watch them every year.
Yes! Well said.
Idk, if there were one star alignment in human history that could end all suffering I'd take that over Lotr.
@@TheHandleOnCZcams no, lotr is better. If there was a second star alignment I'd ask either a movie about the silmarillion done in that style or for malaria to be cured but who'd like to end the suffering that's kinda dumb
@@TheHandleOnCZcamsto flourish would have no meaning if we knew not what it is to suffer. Just as evil gives meaning to good. Negative and positive. Without being able to compare and contrast we wouldn’t value them. They would hold no meaning.
@@toadkiller4475 surely, but there is also no such star that grants wishes or aligns so perfectly it could set off the balance of bad things to come since bad doesnt correlate to negative. I certainly get your approach. We as humans need to make sense of life and contrast this bad with good. But if such a star exists then likely there would be a universe or world where good and only good could prevail. One can only dream outside the dark realms of realism.
Elijah has extraordinary, beautiful and hypnotic eyes! I would have thought they wanted him as Frodo for that outstanding feature alone
That's GOAT behavior
Lol
He did his homework and was rewarded, which is rare. Many actors do the work and still don't get the role. Fortunately, his vision and that of the director's coincided.
That's my Elijah. He's always been an amazing actor.
Radio Flyer
Elijajh already well known actor before LOTR, he played in good son as main role with macaulay culkin, and the faculty.
Ask everyone how they know him and it’s not because of good son. It’s LOTR. 99% of people will say LOTR
don't forget the most known movie at all, Back to the Future II
You're all forgetting Flipper, how could you?
North
Forever Young
I'm so glad. He was amazing 🤩
Wow!!!! Thats is amazing! He definitely deserved the role!
That's also how Peter Jackson got the project in the first place. He wrote and directed a first 9 hrs version of the movie, then sent it to the producers who said "wtf bro" and hired him straight away
Sounds like when my French teacher (now like a dad to me) gave me a project meant to only be like 2 page travel Brochure and I turned it in with ten pages (beautifully done I might add) and took me all of my free time. He took one look at the amount of pages skimmed through it and said “I’m not reading 10 pages, A++.” (I was already the top in my class and no one ever turned in the work, when my peers saw how I got the grade the next project was one everyone did lol and it was twice as hard as the easy brochure. This was like 15 years ago.
Dang it I’m old
didn't he also originally plan for two movies with somebody answering "aren't there three books"?
@@kailahmann1823 Yes, New Line did. The people at Miramax wanted it to be _one_ movie. Idiots.
@@kailahmann1823yeah, he was worried they would want him to make it one movie, so he decided to ask for two and fortunately they wanted him to go all the way.
Best cast ever!
Wow. That is dedication. That reminds me of the time Val Kilmer started in the Doors movie. If starring actors are that invested, they deserve medals.
Wow.....just wow. I take my hat off to Elijah Wood for his utter determination, it really paid off. It must of been one hell of an audition tape for Peter Jackson to cast him on the strength of it.
How could anyone else be Frodo but our boy Elijah Wood
I still want to see the audition tape!
That boy did this homework!
ven villy he vear vigs?
Legend
One of the many reasons why I respect the craft of Elijah Wood, he truly is a dedicated actor and more.
Have loved Elijah since first seeing him as a child in the movie, The Good Son. 👍
I love this. I often tell students I teach this story.
I just want to know if fatty Bolger made it into Frodo’s take. The man deserves some recognition.
I was disappointed at the lack of Fatty Bolger and other minor characters. It would have been nice to have them included in just one scene. I _really_ missed the scouring of the Shire, but it is what it is.
He was really good in Huckleberry fin
Elijah was one of those castings where I was completely onboard from the beginning.
Or he blackmailed Peter saying that he would release it first
Lmaoooo 😂😂
That would explain why we've never seen the audition tape 😆
I'll always call him North. That's how I remember him
to this day i still happily watch the extended cuts of these movies.
As a proud Kiwi, I can honestly say Peter Jackson did that story a great justice.
A beautiful set of films in every aspect ❤
And the passion that got him the role in the first place shone through performance perfectly. I can’t imagine Frodo being portrayed by anyone other than Elijah. Genuinely felt to me as if he jump right off of the page
Going the extra mile, what an example 🗿💪🔥❤️
He was overwhelmed with emotion from the story!? Wjat a T@AT!!
Very happy he got the part
I couldn't see anyone else playing Frodo. All the parts were given to the perfect actor/actress. R.I.P. King The'oden Bilbo, Saruman
Everything about this series was pure brilliance. The casting is no exception.
Would love to see that audition tape!
I love this man fullstop 😂❤❤
I was so in love wirh frodo as a child.
WOW❤❤❤😮
My opinion, but... Brian Blessed woulda been a stellar Tom Bombadil if they had kept that part in the movie!
talk about creating a path to achieve your dream, what a baller
Wooow talking about proactive 😍🤩🔥
Best trilogy ever made, best cast, best everything
The original MCM. I love Elijah Woods😍
God damn that’s dedication. Literally meant to be.
Praise God.
Don’t blaspheme Him
That's what I call BOSS!! ❤
"One dose not Simply walk into Mordor."
One does not simply do a half-hearted audition for a Lord of the Rings role.
Perfect casting in the Lord of the Rings 🧡
In my opinion Elijah Wood was already a legendary actor before those films. I think the first film I saw him in was Radioflyer and his acting moved me to tears. I remember telling my brother I thought he was gonna a huge movie star because he was so good.
Elijah Wood was a prolific child actor his entire early life and was in the arcade with Marty Mcfly in “Back to the Future 2”. So you probably saw him there first.
@@coreyhead5777 I have seen that movie a bunch of times. I didn't realize he was in it.
The most perfect casting in any adaptation ever imo
Frikkin legend
True performance artist
Man, that's next level dedication!
How does a guy from Iowa have that many connections?
He moved out to LA as a child to become an actor.
Elijah Wood is genuinely a sweet, nerdy guy.
gotta make your own opportunities...well done frodo
That's awesome to know that he wanted this particular role enough, felt strongly enough about it, to go to that unusual extent to prove it, and prove that he was the right man to become Frodo.
And we were all better for it!
Its not vhs its hardwork and dedication
Good for him! He knew what he wanted and gave his all to get it.
That’s how you land a role
That's how it's done in the big leagues. You see an opening, you go for it!
This is top inspiration! I don’t know what’s more incredible than going after what you want this hard. The rarity of it shows how few of us actually go all in. Elijah decided no was not an option and went right for the gold!
Very nice, let's see Paul Allen's VHS
That is also how auditions were done at the time. He did an interview with GQ on his most iconic roles that you can see here on CZcams. He explains that process almost word for word from what this short said. But he also says a lot more.
Wow no wonder he was so good. Dude was COMMITTED to his part
I would love to see that VHS! That would be so COOL!!!!
That is some dedication!!!
He was the best actor to play Frodo. No other actor could ever be better. His big blue happy and sad eyes were made for the part of Frodo.
Got to play as main character in pne of the best movies made from one of the best books in the world. Wow.
Anyone remember when he was little in the film Radio flyer?
"Papyrus. I Know What You Did!"
Nothing beats hard work
He also played in Back to the Future Part 2 as one of the kids in Cafe 80s
The whole project of both triilogies was a true labour of love.
Im so happy he did !!! He was perfect ❤
Such dedication 🥹
I bet in the scene where they hid from the hooded rider in the homade version it was a black dog looking all happy.
The beginning of how Mr. Wood got possessed by The Ring and tried everything to get that ring
❤❤❤💍his precious😂😊❤
But Peter, Frodo is supposed to be over 40.
Peter: Bro, you haven't seen this tape
Massive respect, love how he was moved by the script so he moved mountains to part of the script
Put them on VHS is the wildest part of this clip 😂
When hard work rightfully pays off.
