    That's the retro rockets that light up at a few meters above the ground, sending up the dust cloud. They land very softly at something like 2m/sec.

      The large amount of smoke and dust during landing is actually the smoke and dust blown up by the air flow injected by the reverse thrust engine at the moment the returner lands. It's actually very safe, don't worry.

      The dust is not from the impact, the capsule has like thrusters that fire 2 or 1 m before it hits the ground. This is designed to take the speed down from 60 m/s to less than 2 m/s. If you see the video after its landed, you will see no depressed zones, so it actually landed quite smoothly.

      If it's anything like the Soyuz system, which it appears to be copied from, most of the astronauts and cosmonauts say the landing feels like a mild car crash.

      ​@@favesongslist How did you deduce that? Of course, they experienced wide changes in G-forces, going up and coming down. It goes with the job. But the effect is mitigated very much by the design of the different sub-systems, such as the parachute harnesses, the seats for the taikonauts, the suits, etc.

      @@3d4u2cIncorrect. Shenzhou and Soyuz both have soft-landing motors that fire just above the ground to cushion the touchdown. This is what kicks up so much dust when these capsules land. These motors are separate from the thrusters used to control the capsule during reentry; I believe they are solid-fuelled.

      It is soft. The dust cloud was caused by the ignition of retro rockets.

      To protect the astronauts, the reverse thrust is starting around 1 second before the capsule touching down.that's why you saw the dust.
