  • China has launched an unprecedented mission to retrieve samples from the far side of the moon. The spacecraft Chang'e-6 blasted off from the southern island province of Hainan. It’s expected to bring the samples back to Earth within two months. It's the latest advance in China's ambitious space exploration efforts now competing with the United States. China already landed a ROVER on the far side in 2019, making it the first country to do so. We spoke to Mu Cui from DW's China Service.

I don’t understand. Why can’t China have its own lunar projects? Why is it deemed as competing against the USA? Is exploring the moon exclusive to Americans? No other countries allowed to land in the moon at all? Why aren’t you be happy as fellow humans for the progress made by China?

spying aggressively on the democratic states. suppressing in labour camps its minorities, out of lack of any freedoms or liberties inside China. surveillance state and oppression towards its own han citizens in favour of only this murderous communist ideology.

It is rare to see that China's space industry was reported relatively rationally and objectively in Germany before, but the title was obviously too sharp. China officials never said that China would dominate space, but hoped that countries could cooperate with each other, and this lunar exploration included French, Italian and Pakistani lunar probes.

"Domination" is strictly a western concept. All you have to do is look at how brutal western colonialism has been in the past few centuries and you will understand how ridiculous it is for them to accuse China is doing the same. The high standard of living and wealth in the west has been achieved through colonization, and the ongoing looting of natural resources from developing countries. Western nations such as the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia were all founded on slavery, and the genociding of the indigenous population. China in contrast, developed peacefully without invading countries on the otherside of the world, pilaging, slavery, genocide. It's not a coincidence that all western countries who have had a history of colonialism, slavery, genocide are the same ones accusing China of being "aggressive" and "genociding" the Uyghurs with ZERO evidence while also turning a blind eye to the genocide that is going on in Gaza. China has proven to the world that there is an alternative model to the western one and because of this, the west feels threatened.

With a failing economy because of the housing market collapse, the banking crisis, and the ingrained culture of neopotism worsening it? Why do you think the US has had to privatize spaceflight and cut NASA's budget? We have our own problems our money needs to go to and spaceflight is kind of a luxury short of military needs and the needs of the ISS. We have the Artemis program going on, but NASA can't afford that by itself anymore and it's privatized mostly now. China can go ahead and spend on "look what we can do" projects the free West has done ages ago (and with lesser technology than today, no less) and neglect their economy for all we care. Frankly, that's helping us, considering we are still going to defend Taiwan from CCP aggression. People only loyal to the state as long as the state meets their needs. When the state fails to do so, the people get angry and, in the West, things change as a result. In China, the government is so authoritarian that getting angry at the government and voicing it just gets you arrested and/or silenced.

The West shall not discriminate China because China choose one party system instead of using two party system. One party system let China develop much faster. Nowadays China is much more developed than India, Brazil , Indonesia or other developing countries. Its streets are also cleaner and safer than most developed countries. Its life expectancy is already 2 years longer than US life expectancy and 9 years longer than India life expectancy .
Expressway length in China reach 177,000 kms vs US 76,000 kms and India 4,900 kms. High speed railway length in China reach 42,000 kms vs both 0 kms in US and India. On top of that, China is also number 1 in many fields such as electricity generation, motor vehicle production
(30 million per year), steel and cement production, ship building capacity( China ship building capacity is 232 times greater than US ) while it is nowhere 50 or 70 years ago.
Take life expectancy of both China and US as example. In 1950 China life expectancy is about 38 vs US 68. After 71 years, in 2021 China life expectancy is 78.2 vs US 76.1( latest figure by CDC , US life expectancy dropped by 3 in 2020-2021 period from 79.1 originally). China expectancy increase by 40 years while US increase by 8 years only. China life expectancy increase 5 time faster than US.
Also Look at health care by comparing MMA rate( maternal mortality rate): in 1950 China maternal mortality is 1500 women death per 100,000 birth vs US 100 women death per 100,000 births. In 2021, China MMA is 16.1 vs US 23.8 per 100,000 (the lower the number , the better health care service level) .
Infant mortality rate: in 1950 China infant mortality is 195 death per 1000 birth vs US 26.8 death per 1000 births. In 2021, China infant mortality rate drop to 5 per 1000 vs US 5.4 per 1000 birth.
And people in China retire at 55 years old on average to access pension. About 12 years earlier than US's 67 years requirement while some countries may not have pension at all. It means an American need work extra 40*52*12=25,000 hrs in his life than an average person in China. It also means an American only has 9 years to enjoy retirement while an average person in China has 23 years to enjoy retirement. And it is not means or asset tested when access pension in China. It means you get your pension monthly even you stay overseas, are a multi-millionaire or have another job after retirement. Singapore is another example of one party system. Its gdp is highest among Asia.

They mentioned China did a one way mission in 2019 with soft landing on far side, but they did not mention Change 5 which was in 2020 December, where China successfully did a two way sample return mission, the first since the 1970s.. This is just combining and advancing change 4+5 missions. Sample return and far side of the moon. China has done both before and now doing both together. This is also far easier than China's mars rover mission which combined 3 missions in 1. Orbiter, lander, and rover. No one has done sample return mission from Mars yet which is the next step.

Years ago China wanted to participate in the development and construction of Europe's Galileo satellite navigation system, but the white gangs of the European Union and the United States of America took China's money but broke the contract to exclude China, so China decided to develop its own satellite navigation system independently, so now China has its own completely independent intellectual property rights of the BeiDou satellite to the system, the accuracy parameters of the BeiDou system beat the United States of America's GPS satellite navigation system. Similarly, many years ago, China wanted to participate in NASA's space research, but the United States enacted a law prohibiting NASA from having any contact with China on space research, so the Chinese independently developed and built the most advanced, youngest and safest Tiangong Space Station for human beings, and at the same time, the Tiangong Space Station is also open to other countries, but the United States, due to its own laws, NASA will not be able to participate in the China's Tiangong Space Station. Now the U.S. and Europe are carrying out the restriction and blockade of China on advanced chips and AI, so China has decided to develop and build advanced process lithography and AI chips independently again, so it is certain that soon the advanced process lithography and AI chips made in China will flood the global market.

There might be some resemblance on the outside, but on the inside China used a lot of its own cutting edge technologies, from flexible solar array to Hall-effect thruster, from super high bandwidth of down links to 24x7 relay satellite coverage, just name a few.
