    I spent months doing push-ups with weights, I didn't have a bench press and that was the only exercise I had available. It's really nice to be able to fail without a barbell crushing your chest.

      ​​ @Anurag Yadav they are similar. I developed a decent chest with weighted push ups. Doing push ups tho can target the shoulders a lot especially if you tend to lean forward and triceps if you lean backwards. So the technique has to be good. Where as with the bench press it's much easier to keep it straight above u i think. And I'm not sure how doing shorter reps with heavier weights would affect hypertrophy. But i think once you progressively overload on either you're good. It does reach a point though where you won't find enough weight to throw on ur back to do the push up and that's where the bench press wins.

      @@TheOutlierToday they have weighted vest that reach 95 pounds, and they have resistance bands that can reach 100 pounds, you can stack resistance bands + weighted vest, and you can also start doing 1 arm push ups

    I feel that push-ups with the weight vest is superior to bench press because you have to stabilize your core.

      Exactly and much safer no spot needed core engagement is much greater with push ups it wins

      Thats actually counterproductive if you want to recruit your chest/delts/triceps. If you want to train your abs, pushups should not ve the first excercise that comes to your mind.

    I'd say just do both. Weighted push-ups are definitely a tough workout.

    Weighted deficit push ups are godlike. Switch it from barbell bench press and it so much better.

      ​@@trymii5396 a heavy barbell will staple you against the bench and risk going after your neck. a heavy backpack or vest and dropping wont since you can just roll over. Not to mention that a flat surface vs a thin bar will mean that whatever damage thats done will be more concentrated to wherever the bar is on.
