We go down there frequently to watch the birds. You’d be amazed how many people bring bags of bread to feed the waterfowl. The ignorance is mind boggling.

I had seen that deformity before but I did not know what caused it; how sad. Even if people read the signs, many think, "Oh a little bit couldn't hurt!"
Our bread has little nutritional value. That gave me pause.

literally every day i try to tell people not to feed wild animals and they think it is their right and that they are helping. just watching ducks for example for five minutes will tell you that all they do all day long is eat. wild animals are masters of finding the food. they dont need humans to feed them. humans are the only animals on the planet who dont know their place in the ecosystem. DONT FEED WILD ANIMALS

Sadly, people just don't get it no matter how many times they're told not to feed wild animals human foods. Around me there is a restaurant owner that dumps out catering sized silver trays of leftover bread and rice. He's trying to do a nice thing, but he's doing it every single day and attracting flocks of seagulls, geese and pigeons to two parking lots.

I hate people. They say people are supposed to be intelligent. I disagree. Now if you want to feed the Canadian geese "human food" go right ahead, but please leave the swans and ducks alone. How many times do we see "Adults" feeding bread to wildlife, just to show their children how wonderful nature is. Please just stay at home and do the world a big favor.

Thank you City News for posting this video on CZcams. This is pretty accurate as to what had occurred this year with 717 (Charlotte) and Y37 (Mango). This is a very sad reflection on what the public at large unknowing, and in some cases knowingly, did to our wildlife, especially to our magnificent Trumpeter Swans. Our only hope now is that the Angel Wing Deformity in both Baby Cygnets can be corrected by Shades of Hope and both babies can be released in a sanctuary. As mentioned, these two will NOT be returned to their parents, 717 & Y37!!☹☹☹
It may take about a month for 717 & Y37 to recover from their loss. We can only hope that these two will mate next season to have a new beginning with their Baby Cygnets?? As of now, 717 & Y37's season has ended with this tragedy. ☹☹☹

There's a fish hatchery near me( New York) that has food you can purchase to feed the fish. It's only a quarter for a dixie cup full. Maybe they could do something similar for the swans, geese and ducks.

It’s been known for quite some time. People know this and still think it’s harmless. Yet here we are. So sad. Trust me I get the good intentions of course. I my self use to go down to the lake in Pickering to feed the swans there till we all found out this fact. And never did again. We enjoyed their company. And that was peaceful enough. It’s kind to “want to” feed some animals that appears hungry. And show a kindness and compassion. But when you know the health effects of bread for birds for example then still do it. It’s no longer a kindness. It is out right wrong. Same goes with litter. Stop Littering please. Sincerely everyone whether they know it or not.

I was wondering the same thing. If the more detailed, technical warning isn't doing it, maybe it's time for the sledgehammer- a sign that says bread kills birds or something like that. That being said, some people just know what they know and won't listen to anyone. They think anyone who dares to criticise them is just a buzzkill interfering with their good time. Main character syndrome, I suppose.

It's up to individuals to know the laws of the land, and you can only get away for so long, in saying you didn't know or blame it on language. To drive a car in Canada, you have to understand and read basic English, so highly likely that one person in a family understands English and can educate others. What we need is our educators to get on board and get the message out to kids, so they can educate their parents.
