- Welcome to this new video Emirates cabin crew Q&A from the Cabin Crew Series by me! And thanks for watching! (Hi, mom!)
Thank you for all the questions you guys have sent in, there was a popular curiosity about the visa and plane ticket to Dubai as well as the accommodation and sharing an apartment with roommates.
So I decided to combine the answers and get those out of the way before moving on to telling you about the time a lady’s water broke on my flight and what you can expect in the starter/welcome pack when you arrive in your new home!
FAQ
I'm an international flight attendant for Emirates. I am from South Africa and live in Dubai while I travel the world on a weekly basis. I try to capture moments that I believe will make me feel nostalgic when I look back at them a couple of years from now. I absolutely love to create videos, and hope to improve my video editing skills.
I'm a passionate, curious human being and I hope nothing more than to inspire and motivate anyone to pursue their dreams, goals, hobbies, interests and whatever else makes them happy without having a care in the world.

Throw all that self doubt away!! Practicing infront of the mirror and even recording yourself during a mock up interview (just by yourself) will really help you be more prepared.
Gain confidence by really engaging with people you have just met and to practice your conversation skills. Go check out Wish Casting as they really get into every little nitty and gritty detail about each process!

Hey sis after doing assessments day in my area and passed interviews with everything alright get golden call after arrival in Dubai it’s starting training already or redoing assignments again starting from zero again? Or getting Golden meaning u already Emirates cabin crew family?

I have a question: can they send you home during training if you don't do well?
sar // they can yes! You have to fail the exams and show signs of incompetence. Like you will be pushed back and have to start over, so they put you with a new batch who came in after you. And if you still can’t pass then they send you home. That, or if you have a bad attitude and don’t listen to trainers and so forth.
I have a question? Can you work at Emirates and can you have a pixie cut?

Hi. Thanks for this informative video. Do you think it’s possible to continue my studies via UNISA or any South African university that offers long distance learning whilst working as a cabin crew member or are the working hours too strenuous to study while working?
Hi Dineo! A lot of crew are doing their courses online and I know of a few who have been with UNISA. You are able to swap your flights to fit your schedule (granted it gets accepted) and if you have exams, you are able to ask for leave to write them :)

Hi Teshani! Where I live there aren't churches that I know of, I think there is one Mosque near me but I'm not too sure.

Hello Margot😋 My name is Mieke and I'm from Pretoria South Africa. My plan is to study at TPTT academy (Travel Practical Training Tours Academy) after mitriek, it's an 18 month program💫.
It's my dream to work for Emirates along side one of my closest of friends🙂
I do have a few questions if you don't mind answering?🙈😄
Do you think that I would be wasting my time and money by being apart of the academy? It would give me something to do while waiting for my 21st to come around, but it's quite expensive and I don't know if it'll be worth it when they interview me.
Concerning the luggage of an air hostess, does it need to be a specific color? And must you wait with the passengers when collecting it?
And lastly, I'm afraid that I won't be chosen when they're recruiting, do you maybe know how much time is between the recruiting days?

Do you all have to do flight announcements or specific people do?
Oh that’s a good question! I love doing the announcements! So we always have an Arabic speaker on board as it is an Arabic airline, so they do the Arabic announcements first. Following them is the English announcement which is usually done by our Purser who is in charge of the whole team, but it can be done by anyone if they want and if the Purser doesn’t want to do it. And then we usually have a language speaker of the country that we are flying to to do the final language announcement. So french, or spanish or hindi and so on.

Nqobile Sibiya Hi Nqobile! Nope! When we do training and train on what to do in the event of landing on water, we wear our life jackets and we have to get on the slide that will convert into a raft. There is a part where you have to jump into the water with your life jacket on, and then practice to huddle for warmth with your team mates, but I had a girl in my team who couldn’t swim and the whole team was patient with her and cheered her on when she finally jumped. That’s all we do and it is only to prepare you if you ever fall into the water. ❤️

Hello! I wasn’t. I always tell people to save their money and not do the cabin crew training because it doesn’t put you ahead of anyone else. They’re looking for experience with customers as they’re training us for two months according to their own requirements. ❤️

Hello! We don’t have any curfews. Just show up to work well rested, and not on any drugs or having had any alcohol at least 12hours before the flight. But if you dont want to sleep in your apartment because you’re sleeping over somewhere else it’s no one else’s business but yours. 🤗

Hello! Thank you so much for the lovely compliment! So when you join, you go to training college and then you get your first roster. Some crew will be rostered to have their US visa interview in the first month, this counts as a duty and you can not say that you do not want to have one. When you finish the interview they will keep your passport for a few days so you have some days off in Dubai until you get your passport back and then they will start rostering you US flights. Now some crew really want a US visa but they haven't been rostered one in years, so they go and get in on their own, but in this case they have to pay for it themselves where if the company rosters it for you they will pay for it. But you have to do it on your own days off or leave because they keep the passport and in this case it isn't considered a duty because it wasn't the company that arranged it. Some crew do it when they are back home for leave and go to the US embassy there, other crew find availability in Dubai and just to it from there. Now, generally, if you have a US flight, chances are that you don't really do Australian or Asian flights. In my opinion it might be because not everyone has the US visa so they need those crew to do the US flights and send the rest of us to Asia and Australia. The other reason is also the legalities of flying west and east in a certain time frame because of being acclimatised and so on if that makes sense? Hope this helped! :)

Favoured1 Hahaha no, I have lived in America for two years and picked up the accent very quickly, but now it has gone down a lot. I always get asked if I’m Irish, British or Canadian on board. Never south Africa :)
