- Jonathan Frakes is known to millions as Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation. To me he’s also the director of my movie debut in Thunderbirds. In this episode we dig into Jonathan’s story. How he got started, how he transitioned into his role behind the camera and how he reacted when his career took an unexpected turn. In this frank and funny conversation Jonathan shares some of the tools that have helped him succeed and reveals his approach for creating high performing teams and what to do when the nerves strike.

What a legend - such presence.
I thought Jonathan was great too 😉
Wow, Dominic, what a compliment from the great Jonathan Frakes aka Captain Riker. I would agree with him - it was a great interview because you were a wonderful interviewer and you had a lovely person to interview. I was moved by Jonathan's admission about how down he became when Thunderbirds did not do well, and I also love that he is so grateful for his life. But, the one key thing I got from this interview is how joyful the atmosphere on the sets were, and how that must have "beamed" to the movie/TV audience as well. This reminds me of the story of Wahei Takeda who played happy music in his candy factory (which made his workers happy) and his candy sold like hot cakes. He became one of the most wealthy men in Japan.
Glad you enjoyed it Linda. Jonathan certainly knows how to build a culture where people want to go to work in the morning.
Superb - looking forward to the next one!
Thank you! Episode 3 with Daniel Priestley drops next week.
Can’t wait for the rest also I really want to see a thunderbirds reunion and they should totally do more movies with the whole cast back
Great interview! Jonathan is such an open and honest guy. I really appreciated that he was willing to talk about the low spot (after "Thunderbirds" didn't do well) in his career as well as the highs. Enjoyed learning that he starts each day thinking about how fortunate he is to have the life that he has. Thanks! And good luck with your future episodes!
Really good interview, hope your channel does well.
Great first episode for what will hopefully be a long line of conversations. Dominic has that wonderful quality of allowing you to feel comfortable, safe and heard ❤
10:50 😂😂😂😂
