    There were Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, the boys from Beverley Hills 90210, New Kids On The Block, Axl Rose and Bono but Mark Knopfler was the sexiest man alive in 1991.

      @@annetteturner5972 He’s living proof that you can be ugly and sexy at the same time. With a gap between his teeth, a big nose and a receding hairline, Mark Knopfler nevertheless made Dire Straits the biggest band of the 1980s. In the early 1990s they did a lap of honour and quietly retired. We will never see or hear another band quite like them again. It makes me said in the nicest possible way.

      The way a person looks is the least interesting thing about them. Elvis Presley made Rock'n'roll sexy, but it's talent that sells, and the Colonel sold it, probably too much. Mark Knopfler has talent in spades. It always sells.

      @@bloodmoon1956 He was old, bald and ugly in the 1980s but he was still able to build the biggest band in the world! He took Dire Straits out for a lap of honour in the early 1990s and then quit super stardom altogether. If that isn't sexy then what is?!

    I never saw Dire Straits live, but I did get an On Every Street tour poster framed for my birthday one year.
    However, I have seen Mark Knopfler and his post-Dire Straits band five times between 2001 and 2019 in Germany and Ireland. This man wrote the soundtrack of my life, and I do not and never will get tired listening to him and his fabulous band.

      I brought my sister to her first ever Rock gig and my one and only Straits gig of On Every Street as Mark mentioned the First on that last tour.
      The Calling Elvis riff kicked off for a minute with the stage and audience in darkness until boom , the chord opens and then a while later I never forget being dazzled by a spotlight reflecting of Marks Strat pickguard,
      a Divine moment!😂 🎸

    Just finished reading John Illsley's wonderful autobiography "My Life in Dire Straits" - all these old interviews started to make proper sense!

  • @CoachBarry-cv2pu
    @CoachBarry-cv2pu Před rokem +5

    As much as the interviewer seemed to be on MK's case about the scale of the tour, having read John Illsley's account of things, it was the question most on my mind - why did they push it so hard?
    Kinda blows my mind, remembering how much I was listening to Dire Straits as a kid (and continued to do so ever since) and yet was pretty oblivious to just how massively popular they were globally.
    Thanks for uploading this video. Seems rare to see Mark so relaxed and speakeasy in an interview setting.

I just hit record on a VCR about 27 years and then put it up here otherwise it would have never have been seen again. I know people have already copied this and even put their own watermark on it.

      He was born in Scotland, but moved to Newcastle upon Tyne when he was 7, and considers himself a Geordie, the name of people from that region. His mother was from Newcastle and his father was Hungarian Jewish. So he hasn't any Scottish blood in him, just an accident of birth.

      Mr. K used to drink like a fish for a while, but I don't think he ever consumed anything of questionable legality. Maybe the odd doobie once in a blue moon, if that. You can't play that well if you're always ripped. To Mark, a 'joint' is a bar you play your music in, not something you smoke.
