Mark, I could sit and listen to you for hours, and I do. I have had the biggest crush on you since I was a 10 yr old little girl. I recently re discovered that crush and man what a talented and inspirational artist you are...not just for other musicians but to other artists as well. I love how passionate you are about your songs. You are an original and there aren't many left in this world. You are one I wish could live and play your music forever, but as much as I wish that there will be a time when you are not with us and the world IMO will not be the same with out you. These are the stories that make the music. And then he lets it go and we all own it and the stories are our own. An artist creates and we make of the effort what we will and it becomes part of each of us and we imbue with our own stories. Mark has become -- maybe he always was -- the gentle teller of wonderful stories and a fantastic guitar artist. His interviews or monologues are marvelous. Better yet, I'm sure he can't stop and we're the better for it.

There are many great artists in your generation... but there is no artist that lets me have so many daydreams as you...All of ur music from the early dire straits years to the Tracker album.... every so often I find the time to sit down, close my eyes and listen to it and my daydreams go everywhere... and it makes me feel so good! Fascinating. Knopfler has always been one of my favorite players since I first heard ‘Down To the Waterline’ way back when. Over the years he’s aged like a fine whisky - there’s a depth and richness (and maybe a sadness) here that only comes with time. Great storyteller. I feel like there’s a lot more in him that’s yet to be written.

Mark has been a hero of mine since I picked up a guitar 33 years ago....even tho we play nothing alike. He exemplifies honest, pure, craft and honesty in songwriting and playing. I never get tired of hearing him.
I love the sound of his voice, but even more above and beyond his sound I adore his writing. His perspective is breathtaking.

Another great video, I only discovered this channel a few days ago, fascinating insights of life of how songs come about and being a songwriter myself I appreciate it, thanks Mark.
I am fascinated by the biographical nature of your songs. I really want to know who these people are and how you came to learn their life stories (if they even exist). Some of the subjects just seem so obscure so I'm really curious how the seed of those songs got planted. You seem to get into the head of both English and American subjects. As an English transplant to America myself (and a sociologist), I find that fascinating that you can transpose between the two cultures. Mark Knopfler is on the top of the list of the artists and famous people whom I would love to interview.

Id love to see some of the current hit pop artists try giving such in depth backstories about their songs... Apart from a select few genuine artists, i dont think they could do it...
well that is kinda unfair... how should modern "artists" of Pop Music talk in depth about the backstories of their songs... 95-99% of modern pop songs dont have ANY depth what so ever ;) ... But I truly hope that a lot of teens watch and listen to true Artists like Kopfler and Claptan and JJCale and alike so that they realize how deep how fulfilling how wonderful music can be when it has depth and heart!
