I'm a Newcastle fan (I was born and brought up on tyneside, so it's pretty much drummed into you 😆), and my husband is a Liverpool fan. Where I enjoy watching the toon, or England play, my husbands love for the game is huge. He'll watch any team play. He likes watching Spanish football too. His love for the game, comes from his Mam.

    React to
    • Lionel Messi - The goat official movie.
    • Cristiano Ronaldo - the man who can do everything.
    • Diego Maradona - When football becomes art.
Unanimously, these are the 3 greatest ever players. But the order is personal preference.
Then there’s also a brilliant video called the beauty of football, which covers a whole collection of legendary players and moments.

    • @michaelgrabner8977
      @michaelgrabner8977 Před 2 lety

For me who saw Maradona actually play because I´m a time witness (yeah I´m that old) he is by far the best of those three...
On the one hand simply because everything what Messi and C. Ronaldo is doing with the ball I already saw Maradona doing.
And on the other hand because additionally he went back then in the Italian League which was the best League in the world back then like the Premier League is today (for instance Messi doesn´t take that challenge although he could play there and every single Top PL Team would be highly pleased to have him, but neither La Liga nor the french Ligue1 is the best League in the world, C Ronaldo at least took that challenge even twice now) ..But Maradona took "the freaking next level challenge" not playing for an italian Top Team but playing for Napoli which was a Relegation team back then and won with that 2nd class teammates around him on the pitch the italian championship against the Top Teams full with the best players in the world back then...because solely he made that much of a difference back then.
That´s like Messi or Ronaldo playing for Burnley or Watford whatever today and winning with their current teams the Premier League...and that´s why Maradona will be - for me - the best of all time.....
...... because Messi and Ronaldo always played just for Top Teams with Top teammates and everything those 2 won was a consequence of that ..and that´s the huge difference between those 2 and Maradona playing for a second class team like Napoli at that time and winning Championship 2x Cup1x and Uefa Cup 1x.....Of course today Napoli is an italian Top Team for few decades but back then as Maradona signed his contract and played for them it wasn´t at all....solely he made Napoli big and laid the foundation for what Napoli is today.

There's an anime called Bluelock about highschoolers footballers trying to be the top team/player in what can only be described as the most intense football camp you could imagine. It's anime, so there are some insane plays. So insane that they're almost unbelievable... then I see these moves, and suddenly everything they do in the show seems plausable.

Football is a very easy game if you’re in the US. As a very mediocre extremely low level footballer in the UK, I ran rings around MLS hopefuls during my one year of studying in the US. While they had a chance at going pro in the US, in the UK I have absolutely zero chance of even going semi-pro. I played centre back (defence) and scored two less goals than the divisions leading scorer and I played half the games. People don’t quite have the dexterity or speed in the US. A lot of players take far too long to get the ball moving and they look awkward trying to control the ball with their feet. Almost like a young child in the UK only just starting out. It sounds really insulting, but it’s true. It makes sense though. Here we have people who live and breathe football. It’s ingrained in our culture. While in the US it’s only recently taken off. You guys don’t have all that experience and passion behind it. It’s kinda like basketball, I’m sure someone who’s never played for a basketball team from US, but has played it their whole life would easily get into a basketball team in the UK.

Mate a football never left my side as a kid I would walk to school casually dribbling a ball and back again, I would play when I got home, I would use a soft sponge ball in my living room when it was shit weather, I did nothing but play football, with mates, by myself against a wall, it's all we ever did, I played for a decent team at the time, used to have scouts come and I still wasn't good enough, but I was decent, pretty good at times, could hold my own against adults in a game, I was a striker the majority of the time but as we got older they lumped the bigger more developed kids up front, who only knew how to blast balls over the crossbar. I was pretty clinical in front of goal, even to this day I can naturally score when given a chance, I don't play anymore due to terrible injuries, but the last time I did I scored 1 min into a game with 3 touches (And tore my hamstring, hence why I hanged the boots up for good) my skill was more movement and game sense, always in the right place at the right time, I can recall tonnes of matches where I only got one chance and scored it. When I hear the skill level of Americans I actually would have loved to play against them, they would have been eaten alive by us as kids. I remember going to Spain and the difference in our play was hilarious, the Spanish kids were all dribbling skill against typical English rough play, if one of them tried to dribble we would just clatter them. Obviously Spain are a good footballing nation, but like they were all small weedy kids with skill and we were like rugby players in comparison lmao.

If you like skill in Football you really need to check out videos of Diego Maradona, the man was a gift from God on a Football pitch, some of the best players in the World just couldn't get the ball off him.
He used to keepy-up Oranges and Golf Balls with his bare feet when he was a kid, and before a match he would keepy-up rolled up socks in the dressing room for fun only stopping when he got bored, mightily impressive indeed.
On the pitch it was like the ball was glued to his feet...probably the most talented person to ever play the beautiful game.

Fancy foot and ball control in football is some of the finest football you'll ever see
I don't understand why he's saying things like that's disgusting when unlike a British person we'd be saying something on the lines of "that's some fucking nice footwork," or "he didn't see that one coming," we'd never call fancy ball control disgusting or nasty

It's a colloquial term, like saying that was "sick", or "ill", meaning that was "good", or "great". Apply your brain, its not hard to figure out what he means by it.
