    Grêmio, from Porto Alegre (Brazil), played a game with 7 players once.
    It was 2005's second Division finals and we (I'm Grêmio's fan) needed to win to go back to first division. The match was away and the game got really tense, at the end we got 4 red cards, the other team got 2 red cards, we had a penalty kick against... Our goalkeeper defended the kick and in a counter attack, we scored. We won the match and the championship with 7 on field.
    It was known as "Batalha dos Aflitos"!!!

    The reason why when a ball gets 'destroyed' mid air and the goal doesn't count is because the ball could change it's direction because of that and that would give a disadvantage to the goalie who's trying to save the ball.

    If you think about it, having a player less during a penalty shootout would actually benefit the team that had the player sent off, because they would cycle back to their better penalty takers more quickly. The rule is to stop the penalized team having that advantage.

      @coolyoutubename16 Před rokem +2

      @@oddpoppetesq.3467 That doesn't make sense because the other team would then have to kick a player out too, so they too would get back to their preferred penalty takers sooner. @@coolyoutubename16 I don't mean purposefully having a team mate sent off, I mean if team A's best penalty kicker gets sent off for whatever reason then Team B has to choose 1 player not to partake in penalties if it gets to that. So it's in team b's interest to not use their least best kicker.

    • @young_raymond47
      @young_raymond47 Před rokem +4

      @@oddpoppetesq.3467 Sure, but what I'm referring to is more about if you consider the shoot-out in a vacuum. Having 10 players means you get to circle back to your most competent available penalty taker sooner.
      Taking it to the extreme, imagine a scenario where a team has their 4 worst penalty takers sent off right before the shoot-out (maybe it's the world cup final and they get sent off on purpose). That team would have the benefit of only having to cycle between their top 7 penalty takers, but the other team would have their 4 weakest takers taking while they've already cycled back to their best takers.

This is the only time in British football history a game was stopped because a team didn't have enough players to continue. I once had a ref that enforced the 6 seconds rule really hard. Its was the most annoying and stupid game i ever played. He started looking at his watch when I chatched the ball, no matter the situation. So If I had to dive to save a ball,I had to get up, wait for the opponent to get out of my way, get some distance away from goal, let my players switch to offense and find a good target to kick/throw the ball to, all within 6 seconds. There were a lot of indirect freekicks given to both teams and the scoreline was pretty crazy. My and the opponents coach both had the oppinion that this ref sucked, I wonder why.

    The throw-in that went under the goalkeeper's feet actually brushed the studs of the goalkeeper, which is why the refereeing correctly allowed the goal (you can't see it very clearly from that angle). The irony is that if the goal-keeper just let the ball roll in, rather than mis-controlling it, the goal would not have stood.

    another one that is kind of crazy and rare: If a player receives a yellow or red card in a match and the match has to be repeated for some reason that card still counts for the player. In Germany this happened a while ago when a player was sent off with a red card and later the game had to be stopped and dfb decided to have them replay the entire game. The game was then repeated with 11 vs 11, but the player who received the red card still got a suspension for some games due to his foul. The official reasoning was that yellow and red cards are personal penalties for the players and looked at individaully and not in connection to the game the player received them in.

    Predictions:
    1. I reckon the rule that you can't directly score a throw-in. If you throw the ball in and it lands straight in the opponent's goal, it's a goal-kick. No goal has been scored.
    2. If the ball is passed back to the keeper by a defender and he picks it up (inside the penalty box), it's an indirect free-kick to the other team.
    3. Opposing teams' shirt colours are allowed to clash but their shorts mustn't.

    São Paulo 1 x Cruzeiro 1995.
    Cruzeiro got 4 players sent off at the end of first half, after an hard tackle of São Paulo defender (the first kicked his face on return and the others were sent off on the confusion).
    Just After the interval 1 played injured (many say it was an fake injury in order to end the match).
    As it was a playoff Cruzeiro managed to revert the score on the second game, what would nor happen if the game ended up for instance 5x0 on the potential massacre of an 11x7 for an whole half.
    I guess today the game would be considered 3x0, but that rule didnt existed back them.

    Fun fact: Yellow & Red Cards stay valid on the player that received them for a certain number of matches. The amount of matches a team has to play for the sanctions on their sanctioned players to be reset is individual for each fault, and depends on the severity of the fault and the personal criteria of the referee who assigned it.
    There have been cases of players getting sanctioned for DOZENS of matches in a single Red Card, but it has only happened on extreme cases where the fault was so violent and unjustified that the livelihoods of several other players, or even of the referees themselves, were - or could have been - compromised as a result.

This didnt get him a card at the time, but resulted in a 3 month prison term (he ended up serving 44 days). He remains the only player to receive a custodial sentence for an incident which happened on the pitch.

    Having a team to follow really helps your enjoyment of the games instead of just the appreciation for the athleticism, as you know as an American. I'll jump in with the people recommending FIFA Game. You already know, these modern sports games teach you so much. Maybe start a dynasty mode at the bottom of the English leagues for wherever you're located. Take them up the ladder to the UEFA Cup. UEFA Cup is what you want to really get in to. That's the best of the best. Like top 2 to 3 from SEC, Big 12, Big 10, PAC, ACC, and having a round robin, then a tournament. Apart from all that, the World Cup is every 4 years, as is "The Euro" European countries only cup also every 4 years, half way between World Cups, like the Winter Olympics. Enjoyed the reactions. Play FIFA.
