Day 2 of Trans-Madeira brought us some big challenges -- namely the slipperiest trail we've ever encountered and some more bad luck for Macky.

I’m always impressed you’re both able to keep the language PG as when I’m struggling I’m most definitely not kid friendly.
Absolutely. I used a go pro in an off road hare scrambles race once. When we watched it later, I was pretty ashamed of my language. Haven't worn a go pro since. 😂
🤣
Yeah I have potty mouth.
99.9 k!!!!🎉
That nightmare combo of slick, steep and rocky. 😮😮😮😮
Just for reference at 4:09 when Syd is pedaling up to the first stage, those concrete roads with the horizontal grooves are 25% gradient. Maybe more. The whole island is like that.
One simply does not shred the gnar on day two, instead the gnar shreds YOU! Great video as always!
"Look ahead", lol. It's so hard when you are constantly desperate to find a mere inch or two of traction! Great riding. Racing these trails blind is insane.
GO TEAM YELLOW BOTTLE CAP!!!! We are cheering for you 🎉
Awesome that they let you start that close together..
Love Syd's running commentary as she is riding. Totally impressed with how Mack adapted after losing his shock. Looking forward th the day 3. Good luck.
99.9k subscribers so close !!!
Wooo X2 Warranty day. It comes for us all!
Congrats on 100k subscribers. Been enjoying your videos for a long time now.
Wow, that road descent at ~ 21:15 was beautiful.
You two are so close to 100k subscribers! I'm pulling for you!
slicker than snot on a glass doorknob!
100k - brilliant. The best mtb vids on CZcams
X2 doing X2 things
It's called the X2, because you'll break at least 2 of them because you throw it in the trash
Man, it's a hard break on that blown shock.... my money still on you Macky🎉.... solid drive throughout 🎉🎉🎉
Great video, guys! My X2 did the same thing….Fox is replacing pretty much any recently produced X2 with 2024’s….not that that helps you now. On a side note, I swapped all my secondary cameras to DJI after running GoPros for RC vehicles for years. Wow, what a difference. No more glitching, overheating, battery pulls to reset, etc. it just works and looks amazing!
I've had two blow out. After the 2nd, I switched to coil, which works great where I ride. Just the mere mention of gopro's overheating caused mine to do it, and they're not even on ;-)
My x2 on my YT Tues had cavitation issues immediately after I got it and would burp on steep takeoffs. It got so annoying losing pop I called Fox and they rebuilt it under warranty. I haven't ridden it yet but I plan to switch to the EXT coil anyway, the X2 is frustrating to tune and pretty unreliable imo
@@SteveGoldbergMarketing They had issues with the several year models - mine was built in Dec 2021...but I bought it in May of 2022. I too had the loud squish noise and called/sent it into Fox. They just sent me a 2024 with the issues resolved. I have about 400 miles on mine now on my Switchblade and it's solid. You can't bat beat the adjustability of the X2...and when it's working it's a great shock.
Syd's riding so well!
Love you guys, real people sharing life as it happens!
I think some interaction with other racers at the bottom of runs would be interesting!
I'm looking forward to day 3, this is great to watch. I had idea for a race for you to ,to do how about the Mega Avalanche.
I have been wondering how long components last with the pounding you give them - seems ‘not long enough’. 3 cheers and thanks for putting us ahead of the race clock when the camera went walkabout. super-motivating to watch you. 100k soon!
Awesome video. You both did such a great job capturing how incredibly slippery and challenging that race is. Can’t wait for Day 3
Lovin this series...🫶
I love your videos so much even though I would never in a million years ride the types of things you all ride - I'm a slow and steady kind of rider, but everything about your videos is good - it's amazing camera work (which freaks me out even thinking about riding), but it tells a story well and it shares you as people to make it interesting. So thank you. I look forward to new videos every week.
Beautiful country! Nice translating the trout trail!
Congrats on your 100k sub! 🥳🥳🥳
100K around the corner!!!!!
"Death roots left and rite, but i love it!!" Had me laughing,, a wet set of death roots caused me to crash and i dislocated my elbow,, your vids are fulfilling my mtb needs rite now thank you, both of you!!
Sorry to hear. Heal up fast (and avoid any more death roots 😜)!
Welcome to the jungle
we got fun 'n' games……😊😊
Yo!.. It's 9:05 pm (EST) now, sun is down, beer in hand, and CZcams blue dot indicates you 2 released a new video. I pushed the Vette outside, pulled up a folding chair, and am chillin' wife & kids free watching this latest clip. Thank you for sharing, enjoy your weekend -David , Orlando, FL☀️🌴😎👍🏼
Awesome race😉😊
This video needs more watches. This riding destination is amazing and you guys make it look doable haha.
Such a great video. Wow, so awesome the races you get to do! Congratulations on hitting the 100k mark! That is truly a great accomplishment. Especially since you have now done it for two channels. Next goal is 1M. Keep the videos coming!
awesome guys! Syd 😲
I find it quite funny, how happy you're not, when you don't win… but here we are again: 100000! Congratulations! 🏁
Prepped a wall in a dark hue already, to let the tube button pop?
Keep you head high Sid you are smashing it
Wow. You are amazing. I was leaning all over the chair watching you both ride. Now I'm all spun up and have to get up early tomorrow for a fall ride. Thanks for another great video and the effort it takes to produce one. Take care, Al
Damn, that was some awesome trail riding! So impressive.
Madeira riding on the wet dirt or as the locals call it "Madeira Ice" is crazy hard right... but damn the trails are incredible! :) And such variety... deffo not for beginners eh
Great videos. Recently discovered your channel and love it. Wife and I spent a couple days on Madeira this summer. Thanks for showing us a different side of this beautiful island.
Those are sure some technical trails. Great riding and almost 100k!!!!
Incredible effort by both of you.
Great race you two. That was some serious gnar in that one. Keep Rollin. 👍👊
Soooooo close to 100k subscribers!
You guys are awesome!!!
woot 🎉 ya hit 100k subscribers 🎉🎉🎉
"I've exploded my shock"
Camera points at Fox X2... Yeah, that's a thing.
I rode that stage 2 in the wet a few years ago (Trans Madeira 2019) and it is lethal!
Great videos as always. Bummer about the X2 shock failure. Mine failed after only 8 months of use and Fox wouldn’t warranty. Big bummer. Other brands of shocks for me from now on.
7:10 the same thing happened to my float x2 2 months ago at white ranch 🙁. it was fun riding a shock with no rebound damping though...
All the trails are off the charts difficult and slippery OMG. Just keeping the tires in contact with the ground seems like a challenge. Wow.
Awesome epik video and trail
a glimpse of @ Leo Kokkonen, founder of Pole Cycles - at minute 7:00
Its so hard sleeping after these videos. The adrenline rush is real!
I like the sound your camera or mount makes, it sounds old👍👍🇨🇷🇨🇷
Still 100 subscriptions missing out! You totally deserve the 100k.
So I guess you discovered "Madeira ice". 😂
Very impressed that you had a spare shock.
We've learned to bring spares of expensive light things (i.e. derailleurs) and bike-specific things (i.e. shocks) when traveling internationally.
Super 🎉
Awesome Video!!!!
Dang X2
Wow! Great job, both of you. Curious about something. Is riding a blown shock worse than riding a hardtail? I would think that the blown shock effect is that the back is just rattling around moving up and down with none of the benefits while a hardtail- you expect it so you anticipate a harder, but more stable ride? Thanks and thanks for putting this together. Gorgeous videos!!
I thought the same thing. Hard tail has to be better than a blown shock on these trails. Not that I could ride any bike down these without breaking a bone.
That's an interesting question. It definitely feels different than you expect whereas a hardtail you know it's going to be harsh. I think it might be worse though because you get an un-damped rebound with a blown shock whereas on a hardtail you wouldn't get the initial compression so it would probably stay on the ground better...It also sounds terrible.
Well done!
100k!!!
Epic riding 👍
Someone needs to write a song based around "death roots, death roots to the left, death roots to the right, but I like it, I do I really do" :)
Thanks!
Thank you!
Nice!
99.9 LOL could it take any longer!
I know you packed a spare shock but could you not have gotten one there? What kind of mech support do they provide/have available or are you on your own?
Really enjoying the vids as usual. Best of luck!
We might have been able to. The mechanics were great and had surprisingly good stock!
Man the fox x2 series shocks really suffer on the reliability side. Mine has blown out seals twice in 12 months.

Can riding with a blown shock mess up your whole bike?
It sure sounds like it, but I don't believe so. Maybe if you did so for an extended period of time...
How bling was Leo’s bike? (I have a three year old Pole)
🎉
Hello, I missed the jersey ordering deadline 😭is there anyway to order now? I am not worried about a Christmas delivery.
Unfortunately not as the order has already been submitted, but we'll likely do another order sometime next spring!
I was wondering what brand of full-face helmet you are using? I don't need a downhill helmet; I just want more protection than a half shell. I am looking for a light weight, well vented one since I live in the southeast.
It's the Lazer Cage KinetiCore. Definitely light and well ventilated!
lazersport.us/SYDANDMACKY
Thanks, I'll check them out.
What carcass and compound did you 2 use? In the bike list u say DHR. THANK YOU.
Assegai front, DHR rear. Both double down MaxxGrip.
@@sydandmackywhat do you think about this choice? Maxgrip worth it? Ti find the DD to be super tough and obviously heavy in comparison to EXO tires. Thank you.
DD is definitely much heavier, but worth it for these kinds of events because of the increased puncture protection. And really glad we went with MaxxGrip considering how wet and slippery the trails were!
Hey, do you ship merch to UK?
Yup!
👌👌👌👍🙋🏻♂️
100000 ❤
Im sure I'm just missing it, but where is the link to your custom Jerseys?
Sorry had forgotten to add it 🤦♂️. Here you go: bit.ly/3Mau6yE

From what I can gather, you aren't timed on the uphill approach to the stage and the b stage is mostly downhill. So why do you use these long travel trail bikes with air shocks? Why couldn't you use a bigger travel single crown bike actually made for descending? Like mine, for example: a Canyon Torque that has a DHX coil and 175mm of travel.
The WFO is 170mm in the back and 180mm in the front, so sounds like a similar size to your bike. And it (and many current model frames) is designed for the progressive ramping of air shocks so actually rides better with an air shock vs a coil.
@@sydandmacky That sounds like a great bike. But I think you got it backwards. Air Shocks are linear. That's why they put tokens in them to ramp up the suspension curve at the end of the travel. I also have a bike like that too, Ibis Ripmo, with the air shock, but less travel. I like it.
I have an idea for an enduro race you guys should do. It's in my back yard in Idaho. It's called "the Caribou Jack". Look it up. You'll get to ride some really rugged country. I hope to make it next year.
I also have an idea for a video. How about a video for first time enduro racers? What is it. What to expect. Strategies and tips, etc.
Mackay you are hauling what do you think the other competitors are doing better than you. Obviously a fixed shock would helping
I've got a merch store ideal for U, How about "Angry Freehub Bees Honey"?
Were you able to wash your clothes there?
Nope, just with the hose, but then it rained enough that nothing ever dried...
Why do you wear roadie outfit?
