Today, we’re heading to El Paso, Texas to kick off our season with a very unique race - the El Paso Puzzler 50 Miler. We love this race - not only is it almost entirely singletrack, it’s difficult singletrack. Between the rocks, cliff edges and generally hostile plant life, you need to be focused for all 50 miles or risk serious injury (or at the very least some yucca scratches).
It’s been a few months since we rode singletrack, so it’s time to see if the road and gym training have prepared us for this truly epic event.

Hey guys! I want to let you know that everything you post is so helpful. I’m an up and coming racer racing in New England Youth Cycling. I love when you share all the nitty gritty and technical details. It’s hard to get off the couch and onto the trainer everyday but you guys certainly help me do it. Also, the wattage and nutrition and science stuff recently has been some of my favorite because it helps me know why certain things change other things
After this race, I just realized that "Syd and Macky" equals "S & M"--- LOL Great racing you two!

Yay, a new video! I always enjoy having Syd's or Macky's family come out for a race! It's also nice to get to see the southwest again.
I started on skratch last year because of Syd and her mentioning that her stomach doesn't have bad reactions to it. The hydration mix is a genuinely good product. I find it gives me an almost instant boost when I'm out and low on energy. It'd be fascinating to do one of those sweat tests myself. ( #notsponsored myself, but I'm glad they were.)
Great job! Very impressive riding. I'm in the over 60 crowd so it was really cool to see the 'rents do so well. Thanks for such a wonderful job putting this together.

Awesome cinematography! The depth is amazing... as if I can feel the gnar, the exposure, even the steeps look really steep. The section by the poor dead javelina looked spectacular. Camera upgrades?

Great job! Really enjoyed the video.. I like the way you create the videos, where it’s mostly race footage with commentary, and we get to hear the sounds of the ride instead of having music blaring (which I find annoying in so many bike ride/race videos)

That first part of Mundy's Gap going up from the west to the east is just awful. I wasn't even racing. I questioned every choice I made in my life up to that point. It was difficult to even walk the bike.
If you go down there is soft cacti 🌵 to help 😳. Where are the course markers?

why did the check point workers let makey go the wrong way at that fork/ checkpoint???? kinda strange!! seems like they should/ could have sais something .
I think they didn't know it went that way until I went the wrong way and came back and then they started telling people to go that way.
How smudged were those sunglasses during the skratch add?

It would be fun before each of these races to briefly review. What bikes you are, riding, what tires you are using, and what air pressures you are running. I’m amazed at how rough the trails are that you racing on, and you get no flats!
We will be doing this more when we get our new bikes. We are currently a bit limited by sponsor obligtations, but promise this is coming! But as for tires, I used Maxxis Rekon Races and Macky ran Aspens. Psi is weight dependent but I was about 23 r, 18f and Macky was probably 25 r, 22f

Hi guys, great videos again. I was wondering what kind of fork and size that you guys run most of the time , is it Fox 34 and travel? I have a Ibis Exie MTB bike it came with a fox 32 on it with 120 mm travel. I was thinking of going with Fox 34 130 mm travel for all around. I am 180 pounds. What do you think, thanks
We're both on 120mm 34 Step Cast and love them! Definitely recommend.

Great race results for the entire family, Syd, Macky, & Parents. I do have to say that the race course looks like it was one of the most poorly marked courses ever. There should be no reason why a racer misses a turn unless the course is poorly marked. Based on the video (I watched the whole thing) I do have to say course marking sucked. That being said that looked like a pretty technical course and the rocks must have been brutal. I live in Southern Arizona and I'm used to riding technical rocky trails. But the El Paso Puzzler appeared over the top. I enjoyed the video and in-action commentary and "self-talk". Good luck in future 2024 races.

They're the Stages Dash in landscape mode. We generally prefer that orientation on the MTB since they don't stick out as much which protects them in the event of a crash.

We were on last year's bikes but since we aren't riding for Niner this year, didn't include details on them. We'll be announcing our new bike sponsor in the next month or so.

Lots of good videos about transparency in professional sports..how much it costs and how much was made and what is leftover.. this year the writing is on the wall almost no money for road disciplines, little for mountain bike racing and the lion's share of money, interest and media focused on gravel. Watching w curiosity about were everything ends up..if I had to guess more road events, no matter how small, office park crits are going to vanish, and race promoters are going to lean in even harder on pre registration so they know if they are making a dollar and if not more cancellations..
