Orion - Metallica Synth Cover

- I was noodling around one day and stumbled on one of the main Orion riffs, decided that it might make a good synth cover. Everything is sequenced via Ableton Live, a lot of midi recording and and editing of my sloppy playing.
A lot of modular gear in use here, Basimilus Iteritas Alter doing the simple deep bass line. Cursus Iteritas doing its thing, system 100 & System 55 backing layers for a few things here and there. 2500 & 2600 doing lead work as well as backing. Pro 3 & Hydrasynth doing the pads. Some stabby bits by the Deepmind 12. Analog Rytm providing drums, using it's internal drum synth & LinnDrum samples in combo. - Hudba

How on earth a plane cockpit with tangled wires can render an entire composition is beyond my grasp, but the result is freaking awesome. Good job Master of blinking knobs!
Ok so its basically a bunch of different voltage controlled circuits (as amplifiers, oscillators, phasers, etc.) you get a sound by combining a circuit with other (with the cables) and you shape the sound controlling the voltage with the potentiometers. Those plane cockpits are responsible of the whole electronic music born and most of this circuits were made to color different instruments, and ngl those things are orgasmic to work in if you like gear minimally, they give infinite posibilities
I don't know about the cockpit, but it certainly reminds me of what I saw in an AWACS jet years ago. Only the wires and cables were behind/under the consoles. 😀

Around 1996 I was handed a FastTracker 2 xm file entitled Metallica Orion - which was almost a synth version of this song. I got obsessed with it to the point I picked up the guitar, learnt music production and playing it ever since. The power of one song. Thanks for the flashback!

YES! 1.25 speed is just about the right BPM for this - except, back to 1x for the slower bridge/solo, until the riff kicks back in

I was working on an Orion synth cover a year ago that was more focused around the mellow bridge part, but I never got around to finishing it.

You should finish it. This was a challenge for me and I struggled with it but I felt so good after it was finished.

I'm guessing that it's not easy to deal with so much analog stuff but seems intriguing as well as it is challenging.
It can be, but that's part of the fun of a setup like this one.
I'll be honest... I came here rolling my eyes and thinking, "oh, what is this bullshit?" But I gave it a shot and once the song got underway, I'm so, so, so glad I clicked. I love how it sounds at 1.25x speed.

That was epic! I gotta ask, how many hours did it take to program? It’s an irrelevant detail but my synth mind wants to know.
All told it took about a month or so. Recording/editing midi, sound design, mixing etc.
