Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. You have done a few of their hits already. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.
Agree, Karen was one of a kind. Beautiful, clear, rich voice!
Now.....her last recording.
Sometimes hearing Karen and Richard brings a flood of tears. My late Mom introduced me to ALL SORTS of music, ballet, art galleries, the importance of reading daily by taking me to the library w/my Grandma & checking out the Little House series (first my Grandma read them to me when I was probably about 5, & then my Mom read them to me. Once I was reading on my own, I read them when I was probably about 6.) Theater productions & so much more!
Mom played records on Saturdays (she worked full time, so that was our housecleaning day) from her wide range of artists, including the Carpenters. I knew their songs by heart as a little girl & loved singing along like my incredible Mom did.
My late parents both had incredible voices, & sang solos, duets with each other, quartets, & were in choirs from H.S. all the way until just several years before they died.
I have a HUGE REQUEST....I would love the chance to honor my amazing late Mom for introducing me years ago to Il Divo.
Simon Cowell initially put them together, & it took him 2 years to find the right 4 men, all from different countries. Carlos Marin was from Spain, David Miller from the U.S., Sebastien Izambard from France, & Urs Buhler from Switzerland.
So they're classically trained, but cover many extremely well known songs, although they sing in various languages. Even if they sing a song you don't know, it doesn't matter because it is SOOO beautiful! And you know you can just look up the lyrics later!!!
SOOO, last December, while they were performing in the U.K., Carlos died VERY SUDDENLY from the Delta variant of COVID although vaccinated. It was just a matter of a few days. So all of us millions of fans were devastated and heartbroken.
Carlos was their baritone, & his voice was incredible. I would be BEYOND GRATEFUL if you would react to them performing Nights in White Satin live (since virtually EVERYONE knows that song it's a good start).
This would not only allow me to honor my amazing Mom, but also to pay tribute to Carlos.
Around March of this year, they knew Carlos would want them to continue performing. So a friend of David Miller, Steven LaBrie, agreed to join them for a year long tour in tribute to Carlos. He sings Carlo's parts, & of course has a great voice.
Two weeks ago my daughter & I were actually able to see them here in Sacramento. It was both magical and also heartbreaking. SOOO awesome to see them from fantastic seats, but just so sad that Carlos is gone. He had a massive personality and stage presence, so nobody can replace that.
I'm so sorry this message is so long, but I wanted to express what it would mean to me if you would give them a chance.
Her voice was beautiful.
The purest voice!! 🎶 RIP Karen💗
Her voice is like Velvet!
Who will ever forget her, NO ONE, especially me, growing up & you turn on the radio & there's Karen, her voice just stopped you right there like an immovable force, you just had to listen all the way through.
Yes, EVERY time, even today!
Angelic is the word. So pure and clear and beautiful.
Karen is my favorite female vocalist. She was also an amazing drummer.
So nice, A Dogg. She had one of the clearest, most beautiful voices. Try Ann Murray, too. She had that beautiful, clear voice, too.
One of the best voices you will ever hear. Pure gold.
'' Superstar '' '' This Masquerade '' also her last recorded song is beautiful '' Now '' ❤❤❤
No bad songs from The Carpenters. Karen's voice, Richard knew exactly how to arrange for her voice. Everything they did is just golden.
There will never be another voice like that again. PURE!!
Such a great song I believe this was their first hit! She really does have the most beautiful voice....love it...I'm addicted to her voice!! Try Masquerade, Superstar, Sing, Top of the Word...and any song anyone recommends!!!!
I was eleven years old when this first played on the radio in 1970. It was their first radio hit on AM (Amplitude Modulation) stations.
Yup. Masquerade is my favorite. Smooth and warmer than George Benson could sing it.
it great to have new generation listening to the carpenters. i grew up listing to her in the 70's you might want listen to her last song she recorded
Agree - This Masquerade and A Song of You are great!
Voice of an Angel ❤️
Check out Superstar, Rainy Days and Mondays. Can you believe how sweet she sounds LIVE?
On the day that she was born the angels got together and decided to create a dream voice come true. Pitch perfect pure passion! ANGELIC! Lost this beautiful woman too soon. So sad.
Karen and Richard were quite possibly the most talented duo ever. Was fortunate to grow up with their wonderful music. Rest in peace Karen.
Karen was one of a kind. Adore her!
Karen has a beautiful voice! Thanks for the reaction!
You have to hear Only yesterday by her it really shows off her perfect voice.
Hey A, Such a beautiful soul, her vocals r so Angelic...Thanx so much for reaction, Peace
She sings every song the same way every time.
Karen was one of a kind and I miss her dearly.
If only she knew how incredibly talented and loved she was. Truly tragic and heartbreaking loss.
I feel like the world is a softer place every time I've heard her voice.. It always stops me. She's always been my favorite female vocalist...so glad you get to experience The Carpenters..thank you!
Smooth voice. I love your appreciation!
Angels voice...❤. One of the most beautiful songs ever written
Her voice was pure perfection. Gone way to soon.
Us 70s Brats were spoiled lol
Rainy Days and Mondays. We’ve Only Just Begun. Superstar. Mr. Postman. Just a few to be mentioned. Karen was a very talented young woman. Her voice was like an Angel. They said she never messed up on a song and her voice was clear as a whistle.
The best songs Karen sang?In my opinion. Solitaire, Trying to get the Feeling Again. Rainy Days and Mondays, Superstar. I watched her sing Rainy Days and Mondays . Karen was known for recording a song on the first take. She sang Superstar reading from the lyrics her brother had written on a napkin for her . Got it on the first take.
Thanks Adogg. Thank you for expressing your honest reaction of really enjoying and appreciating what you were hearing. I agree with you -- I also keep coming back to "beautiful" as the word to describe her voice and the songs they made. Lots of good suggestions below, I'll put in a vote for "For All We Know", "Yesterday Once More" and "Only Yesterday". Many more too...
She is also an exceptional drummer.
When she sung her hits no matter what they were she put a lot of feeling into it like the song is talking about her life. I didn’t realize back as a young teenager that these songs were about her in ways. Sounds like now when I listen to her singing she was actually crying out through a song. I know her brother Richard was behind the scenes of all the songs and yes he deserves recognition too but it was Karen who made the songs real. I think it did. Her voice was made the songs what it was back then.. Her voice was pure and velvety. She didn’t want the attention to be up front but she was forced. She is and was a very good drum player but they didn’t want her to be behind the drums. She wanted to play the drums and sing as playing the drums. I guess back then she probably didn’t have much to say on the matter. We will never know whole story. Well heaven now has her to hear angelic voice. ❤❤❤
In my 60yrs on earth I have yet to hear a voice anywhere even close to her voice!
The Carpenters were an amazing duo. Karen’s voice was so effortlessly perfect. Every note was just flawless. Richard was an incredible composer and I felt at times often overlooked. But their music has stood the test of time. Some of my favorite Carpenters’ songs were:
Rainy Days and Mondays
Hurting Each Other
Close To You
Yesterday Once More
This Masquerade
I Won’t Last A Day Without You
Calling out (to mothership) also great
In a matter of weeks I'll turn 65 always loved them
The only way to describe her voice is
VELVET
For real, don't care what music ur into she just stops ur world. World treasure❤
Da Real Adogg, I love your enthusiasm for Karen Carpenter and the Carpenters. Her voice is sublime, and her warmth and gracefulness on stage just add to her timeless and universal appeal. It's been stated many times but deserves repeating--Karen Carpenter has no equal.
The Carpenters have a beautiful Christmas song called Merry Christmas, Darling. Lovely anytime of year.
Anne Murray and Karen Carpenter had similar voices... very warm in tone and perfect in pitch... beautiful to listen to.
Yesterday once more great song. 😊
Adogg - You are absolutely correct describing how amazing Karen was in every capacity as a performer - singing, stage presence, drumming. What is so sad is that she was so very insecure about herself. That is what led to her eating disorder (worried about being "fat" when she was as thin as a rail!) that claimed her life at the pinnacle of the Carpenters career. Yet another "shooting star" that burned so very brightly but was then gone way too soon! She was SO SPECIAL!
You young man are absolutely correct! She is one of a kind!
Karen's voice was silk, satin, velvet... but she really only ever wanted to be a drummer... there are some great videos where she does both... thanks for this!
Thank you, Real. Karen was something special, wasn't she? I hope you would react to "HELP!" live at BBC in 1971 - she sang - and she played those drums!
Karen a sweet drumer !!!
I saw Karen sing and drum in 1972 in Vegas. She was one of the best drummers/singers ever . She helped break the glass ceiling for women playing instruments . Check out on youtube Karen Carpenter kick-ass drummer.
P.S. she sung so effortlessly
During that same concert BBC 1971, the Carpenters sang the Beatles song, HELP! - and Karen plays the drums, and she was very happy 😅
Do much more of her.... Bless the beasts and the children, Hurting each other...so many. Even her non hits were....should have been hits!
You just listened to the greatest female singer of all time and creation !
My favorite is “Top of the world”. That song just makes me so happy. And it reminds me of being a kid in the Spring in the 70’s. I know. It’s a weird thing. Lol
Not "weird" at all: czcams.com/video/Tt1MqAZ9XHw/video.html
Another great reaction Adogg! Thank you, for appreciating this amazing talented duo! So many more wonderful songs to cover! ❤️
You should hear her version of "This Masquerade". It was written (and recorded) by Leon Russell in 1972. The Carpenters recorded it in 1973. George Benson also covered it in 1976. In my opinion the Carpenters version is by far the best version. Others may disagree.
Unique silk voice a one off ❤❤❤😢
Hey Adogg: So far, the Carpenters videos that you have shown are all from their 1971 BBC Concert. If you would check out the Beatles tune, "HELP!" you will see that she does not only have a vocal talent, but a real skill in playing the drums. Also, she was very happy as well. Thank you for your reactions.
My favorite!
I have been listening to The Carpenters since I was 8. I love the Carpenters. So sad that she died young from an eating disorder.
Just have to say I love your reactions!! Was raised on 60’s& 70’s music. The best ever!!!
For All We Know is my very favorite Carpenters song. I just love it and the memories it brings. 💖✨
Karen Carpenter The Greatest Female Singer Who Ever Was RIP Beautiful Angel 💔
You just have such great reactions and truly a positive and real personality! I so enjoy your channel! Thanks for all you do! 😊😊😊
Totally agree with Jolly, I am not exaggerating that all the songs are sweet & very special!♥️ this really tugs at my heartstrings too, reminds me of walks with my dad... at that age he carried me all the way back home😀😂
A fun reaction would be a back to back of "Superstar" then the scene in Tommy Boy when they tried too act too cool to listen to the Carpenters😂 comedy gold! Thanks for a great reaction!♥️✌
Hey my brother Da Real Adogg you are the "MAN!!!" Keep up the good work too!!!
She had a lot of hits, too many to mention. Great singer she was and her life cut short. What a shame such a beautiful voice.
she was unique...
Thanks for this, Adogg. Like you, I find myself lost for words when trying to describe Karen's talent. She was a gift from God. I was just a few years younger than Karen. I think that the best way I can describe what I felt when listening to this song when it came out is that I wished she was singing it to me. That would have been heaven on Earth. What a voice, what a soul... Actually, I *still* wish she was singing it for me. RIP, Karen. Many of us still love you.
The song "Superstar" sung by Luther Vandross was written and performed by them 1st.
That's my favorite song of hers. Perfection.
On a sad note, it was her death that brought Anorexia to the forefront.
Beautiful! Have you seen her big drum solo? My fave by her is Rainy Days and Mondays.
Karen s brother , the other part of the Carpenters ......did a doc for PBS , saw it several years ago ....which was a retrospective of Karens / Carpenters music ......along with the tragic results of karens eating disorder ....which took her much too soon .
A song that is rarely reacted to, It is called (a place to hideaway). Only one Karen Carpenter.
My absolute Fav!!! Man how I love the way she performed that, her expressions, stage presence, vocals, etc,
Perfection 💯 points
Richard is a talent in himself. RIP Karen , gone way to soon
A great video to react to is the Carpenters doing 'dancing in the streets' (4:21 vidio) on a variety show, Karen is playing the drums and singing, awesome video.
Show, don;t just tell: czcams.com/video/3Cz60nGaopM/video.html
The magic of Karen Carpenter
You can't go wrong with any song you choose to listen to but my faves are Rainy days and Mondays and Eve
Haaa! My boy Adogg says he needs to make up a new word to describe Karen Carpenter's voice! Yes! And whatever you come up with, I will totally agree with you!
I just wish Karen had lived long enough to see how well loved she is even 40 years after her untimely death. I just believe all she needed was a few good close friends who made her feel good about herself. Unfortunately, we lost the best singer ever due to her own demons.
Da Real Adogg: I bet you will love these two performances 1. Medley, singing, & drumming where she could control her own meter live: czcams.com/video/eyoyJkHoWEA/video.html
Live in Japan: Singing a verse in Japanese: czcams.com/video/SpfZZ2FyB_0/video.html
Listen to I'm Caught Between Goodbye and I Love You
Please do "Rainy Days and Mondays"!!!
No auto tune needed 😉
I like you to react to the Carpenter Song it a great song got kids singing also
I got to grow up with this amazing music
Very sad so sad that her Mother always favoured the brother Richard ... and never praised Karen, and always put her down .... she was plagued by self doubt hence the eating disorder, the one thing in her life she had control over .... Heartbreaking that her own Mum couldn't see what a beautiful talented rare gift she had in her daughter 😢 💔
That’s a shame - I never knew about that. I’ve also read that early in her career a nasty music critic wrote a review in which he called her “a chubby little girl”. Seems like she was super-conscious of her public image after that.
Yes I heard the family , especially Mom, teased her about her weight. How effed up is that? For anyone? Weight shaming NEVER helps anyone. It does cause eating disorders though- which kill. From a fan and a survivor !
Calling occupants cover of Klatuu, she was great
No auto tone in the 70s ,,,DIDNT NEED IT
Any of Their Songs. You can’t go Wrong.
Back in the day, it was fashionable to not like "The Pepsodent Twins," Richard and Karen Carpenter. However, with no one around to guffaw/trash talk, this song hits the mark every time: czcams.com/video/Tt1MqAZ9XHw/video.html Some years ago, I heard that Karen Carpenter had recorded "The Rainbow Connection" song. The "As Time Goes By" CD was an A&M Asia exclusive that I tracked down via eBay. At seventeen, Karen Carpenter showed that she could hold her own with well-known Pop stars with this song: czcams.com/video/pxpMkMmGkTE/video.html So, here is "The Rainbow Connection" by Karen Carpenter; czcams.com/video/PYuE2roIkH0/video.html
Check out the following duets with Karen --Andy Williams, Perry Como, Carol Burnett, Ella Fitzgerald, and John Denver.
Carpenters/Desperado
Love this when I was only 7 haha
Her Mother and Brother pushed her so hard , it eventually took her from us .

That’s a real gem ! Did you know The Carpenters covered his great song Masquerade ? It’s my favorite song of theirs.
I put her up there with Whitney and amy
Have you NEVER heard of Freddie MERCURY?
I’m going to guess you’re from LA, they are from Downey just for some info. She is definitely one of the top voices in history.
