- The Africa Special is a Top Gear special in which Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May attempt to find the true source of the River Nile in secondhand estate cars on a budget.
The team traveled through Central Africa to achieve this goal, starting in Uganda and traveling through Rwanda to reach their final destination in Tanzania.

“I don’t mind you nicking a piece of my bonnet. That’s fair... I do mind you doing such an appalling job of it”😂 James May is great
May as well do it right if he don't mind i guess
@@langleysenterprise5134
May
"It looks like he done it with a knife and fork"😂😂 he's great
I always liked James, he's hilarious and often has a good point... I'm also similar in things like this, I have Asperger's, so seeing something done with no order at all makes me so uncomfortable! 😩😃
Clark son: my genius is, it’s almost frightning
3 seconds later: The stupidest idea in all of history
in the episode, its exactly 1 minute
Oh no! Anyway
@@pokepat4433 hahahahahaaha yes
Lmao
The idea itself was actually brilliant
somewhere in the darkness: HAMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOND
Hammond: *looks nervously at the camera*
it was an office reference without being an office reference
Hammond looks genuinely terrified at that point.
“Done with a knife and a fork by the council” what a fucking legend
huiopklb
You shouldve just shown us the whole special lmao
And on that terrible disappointment, good night.
Aye
3 bucks you can buy it in HD
@@nesbittracing1081 where , I'll buy full top series
I am surprised this much of the episode hasn't been struck down.
10:45
It was so funny seeing Hammond sitting in the back of his car being busy with cooking. He looked like a little hobbit in his little house 😆😆
He was the hobbit in his little house
Even funnier when Jeremy was measuring his rear window 😄
"Arise Sir Richard. Oh.. you already have."
To be honest Richard had the best car for that situation
Oh 100%
BMW
Yes
@@Smack_2 this one was the worst. RWD and unreliable. Even James had awd in his volvo.
No doubt
Dont know why but the Africa special has always been my favorite special
I can't decide between Africa or Bolivia
I like them all but I think Vietnam was my No 1
1) Africa 2) nam 3) Botswana 4) Bolivia 5) Burma 6) India
@@Adam-ui9qj Patagonia? Middle East?
The best part? Clarkson's improvised hand brake mishap.
I love at 1:53 how the whole conversation about the lake is clipped down to an inhale and 10 seconds of silence 😂
huikv
jiopjhhh
'If you suggest camping there will be a live and celebrated televisual death!' Angry James May is low key one of the best parts of the show, we can identify with him because he often gets legit furious with them haha.
Favourite Specials:
1. Africa
2. Bolivia
3. Burma
4. Vietnam
5. Botswana
1. Columbia and nimbia
I mean what about Patagonia that one was jokes
@@Taurineg “I never knew namibia had two seas”
I think my favorites are: Burma, Africa, North Pole, Bolivia, Vietnam.
I do like your list a lot though!
@TheSovietOnion l i was rolling on my bed laughing for like 10 minutes after that 🤣 , Jeremy was destroying his car and he showed him his machete
these 3 have done it all, went all around the world, has seen the most magnificent places, have driven all the fastest cars, went to the edge of space (James).
10:20 the delayed reaction got me 😂😂😂
16:10 That queen joke by May is just way too funny for it's own good.
You missed the part where the restaurant was closed and james said “oh well Christ the king hasn’t risen yet”
Nothing in the history or future of television can ever beat the moment where Jeremy is driving along and says " I wonder if we're heading towards that massive rain cloud.... Yeah we are, aren't we?" and the rain falls while the pre-chorus of the greatest piece of music every written fades in.
Things might be as good as this but I can never honestly say that it could be better then how that was put together. I still get goosebumps every single time I see it. a tiny little piece of perfection in a show that was one of the most entertaining shows ever made.
JeremyJezza: ..sometimes my genius is almost frightening" ..... A few seconds later...
Also Jeremy Jezza: " This is the most stupid idea" Lol
Sometimes, Jeremy is so full of himself it’s irritating after a while. But sometimes he gets his one-uppence Thank God
10:20 - I always love Hammond's moment of realization as to what happened
That hood scoop looks surprisingly good on that volvo.
8:20
Jeremy: As dawn broke; the peace and serenity of this beautiful Ugandan morning was shattered by the bellow of a wild animal.
James: CLARKSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10:05
The creation of a meme
To be fair
Until it bounced up it was rather smart
YESSS
HE SAID THE THING
No it isnt. Would've been a meme already.
Just keep it on the car until you need it
They really out here flexing on that whole African community when introducing their cars
It is the british way innit
Back in the day they were introducing their muskets to them the same way! (jk)
@@gergoantal1066 oh the Zulus right
I think its literally impossible to flex when your driving an estate car lmao
“Sometimes my genius is almost frightening “😂😂
May yelling 'Clarkson' will never get old in any episode, but this one by far had the best build up and delivery. I was in stitches when I first watched it, completely wasn't expecting it. Plus it's still hilarious now. There's so many brilliant moments in this special, it's hard for it to not be someone's favourite imo.
1:56 the awkward silence and inhales killed me 😂
It reminded me of the video "A for asthma" lmao 😂
Clarkson and his Phrases omg makes me Laugh ....Saying "HERES THE IMMINENT ARRIVAL OF A MORON ITS RICHARD HAMMOND "😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I couldn't stop laughing
Oh man i couldn't stop laughing when that log busted his window lmao
@@janicebing6621 Instant Karma Right He thought he literally Created a Brake But when he Went to brake it Went right up and smashed his Window🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
huiopkd
May's shouting CLARKSON in echo really got me
6:04 hammonds stressed hamster face is the funniest
After having watched every special over and over again this is still by far my favorite
The way James may says c*ck after something happens is funny 😂
The peace & serenity of this beautiful Ugandan morning was shattered by the bellow of an wild animal 8:33
I love the echo effect they put on it, they should have done that with the original
18:06
Probably why he's aged so well got that like fountain of youth going on 😂
Now I understand why the WRC had the Safari Rally for so many years, the terrain is just brutal.
Oh man i couldn't stop laughing when that log busted his window lmao
"Arise, Sir Richard.. oh you already have.."🤣🤣🤣 16:09
Don't get that one 🤔
My favorite part is when the backup car sunk in the river, I guess you can say the backup car needs a backup.
8:34 clarksooooon !!!! 🤣🤣
Watching Top Gear with my wife and in-laws was one of the great things in life.
06:05 Hammonds face 🤣🤣🤣..No way they slept in that hotel man 😭
"Sometimes my genius is, it's almost frightening"
Seconds later his rear window gets smashed by the log
8:22 Clarkson : "As Dawn Broke The Peace & Serenity Of This Beautiful Ugandan Morning Was Shattered By The Below Of The Wild Animal..."
8:33 James May : "CLARKSOOOOOOOOON!!!"
One of the best episodes ever❤ I showed it to my 2 year old for the first time, can’t wait until she starts loving this show
"... as driven by emeritus professors all over the world..."
Possibly Clarkson's funniest line ever.
"Was shattered by the bellow of a wild animal."
"CLARKSOOOOOON!!!!"
This is the best special
A fun goal, brilliant scenery, memorable moments, the best trio of cars and perfectly paced
'Not the exhaust manifold' is one of the finest moments of human history
Many times I've watched this clip, but only now did I notice that ending credits. Absolutely hilarious.
I still think that every British Explorer in 1600s, sound like James May...
Every European Colonizer Country: Lets Go Find Someland!!!

Your editing is creative, but its very distracting and makes it a bit unpleasant to watch. Not hating here, just giving you feedback! Loving the channel btw!
Has to be this way to not get taken down by the bbc
the editing is terrible.. but good try
agreed lmao
god i thought i saw the last of that shit when it was the simpsons and family guy clips,
yeah
Avoiding copy strike
@@m.agilnajib345 thats what they all say. its still abysmal
Arise, Sir Richard, Oh, You've already have 🤣😂
8:33 CLAAARKSOOOOOONNNN!!!
"Not my finger, the water" 😂
I love the unison “not the exhaust manifold.” If you tried to fake it you’d never match it up that good. Plus James and his giddy laugh.
The editing around 2:00 where they all just go silent is absolutely fantastic ahaha
The whole special is the best part. The best special imo. Would also like to add, that bugeye is the real hero of the special.
8:30 always got me🤣🤣🤣
I love the echo they put on the "CLARKSON"
This is best special ever 😂🤟
Richard had the perfect car
I don't know how many time that perfectly for the log to pop up and smash that back window. It is freaking hilarious. I don't think I'd be mad if I was him just extremely surprised
Lets be honest.
Jeremy's Car was hilarious
Hammonds Car was the CLEAR winner.
James Car was the most surprising.
6:00 Clarkson : "Oh My God... HAMMOOOOOOOOND!!!"
James does look like a Volvo kinda guy doesn’t he
Somebody in 20 yrs, check the history book and see if the 3 TG presenters really found the source of the river Nile.
Top gear is so entertaining that I didn’t skip it once for 18min
This made me laugh and the time was just right. After being in lockdown for the past 6month with curfew working from home I was kind of in meltdown but after seeing top gear feel more relaxed. Thanks
The great thing is, there's years of TG with these knuckleheads (meant lovingly, ofc) and Grand Tour. Certainly a lot of material to get lost in to escape the isolating feeling.
0:20 gets me every time 😂😂😂
Polar expedition episode with Clarkson and May sharing the car journey to reach the magnetic North pole from Alaska and Hammond on a dog sleigh is impressive. Ranulph Fiennes who describes them how he reached the North and South pole alone and lost parts of his fingers due to frost bite gave them advice about how in the extreme cold you will get on one another's nerves as Clarkson and May did when trying to erect the tent for a night's sleep. At one period they decide to keep them selves warm whilst driving by drinking gin. The AA complained to the BBC as they were technically drink drivers but of course the show likes to push the boundaries and the theory was when are you going to find a police officer looking for drinking drivers at the North pole!
"I'm genesising him"
My favourite quote ever
The Subaru 02-03 bugeye is my favorite car design. especially the wagon.
The entire Jezza in Jezza thing was my favourite Top gear bit
3:26 Weird how that sort of got referenced in the second episode of The Grand Tour.
I love this with a passion
13:14 Now THIS is an inovation! :D
Hammond absolutely BODIED everyone else in this challenge with his 4WD Subaru
imprezas were built for these kinds of things, hammond is the only one who chose wisely
@@bigassdawg i guess it's part of the show to choose unwisely so there's some drama. Hell, even a cheap second hand Lada Niva is much more effective than those poor wagons.
the synced “not the exhaust manifold” gets me everytime
13:03
The most british way of making someone undertsand that you dont care about he's/she's presence or existence
James on the source of the River Nile; "I'm going to put my finger in it, excuse me.."
Have you heard Jeremy Clarkson's taking steroids? It's top gear.
I love the edited scream lmao: CLARKSOOOOOOOOOOOOOON! 🤣🤣
I LOVE TOP GEAR BBC ❤❤
10:06 HE SAID IT
10:05 "sometimes my genius, ... it's almost frightening"
Thanks top gear for showing my gorgeous road network, the Ugandan government is very proud of those roads. The govt has done a tremendous job
The Subaru took no damage from the environment, just got unlucky to get attacked by wildlife
The best boiled down version of this special
Surprisingly well edited, well done!
hammond pulled EACH of them out like 30 times..(prolly more but not on TV) he easily won this..idk how they voted against the subby at the end..it was easily the best car for the job.
That automatic handbrake system will never not make me laugh 🤣
8:01 - Anyone old enough to remember Charlie Brown might recognize that Jeremy pronounces "augh!" the way the peanuts characters did, enunciating the GH.
I love how this is edited hahaha fantastic
This was my favourite challenge from the old top gear. Love the car, scenery, upgrades to the cars and so on!
I really miss these old kind of specials. The Amazon specials are sort of Uhmerican.
well edited best moments of top gear
This might be the best special.
Come oooon, where is the scene where millions of bugs flying around them and the long guy got bugs in his mouth 🤣
@groovest idk his name. The tallest one
This is like watching one long trailer. Lol
The fact that they’re still not being recognized for finding the source of the Nile still baffles me
Our ancestors new it's existence since Time in memorial. I don't think anyone found it for us Africans especially us Ugandans who own it. 😊😊😊😊🙏🙏🙏
Because they didn’t actually find it
Because it wasn't lmao
I like how in the very beginning they already question James' car, then it's the first to be out of commission, but in the very end he ends up being first.
