    i was diagnosed with chronic depression when i was 13 years old, and I struggled severely throughout puberty. I’m now 19 years old and I didn’t think I’d live to this age. Spirituality has helped me allow myself to heal and i’ve never felt so happy and strong before

      Same happen to me but I was 10 when I experience my first panic attack. I didn't know what was happening to me, I thought I was going crazy. Thank God he heal me and made me stronger.

      I was also diagnosed with a depression at 13 and suffered greatly for years until I read Siddhartha as translated by Herman Hesse. This book was the beginning of a transformation that brought me both an awareness of the love all around and an understanding that my mind was trapping me in an identity state with extremely limited options. I have spent the next 33 years of my life creating personal self awareness and mindfulness tools to help overcome my minds predisposition to make me a victim. I have learned that we as humans have 3 forms of intelligence. Our intellectual intelligence, our emotional intelligence and our physical intelligence. Much suffering is avoided by recognizing that most of our problems come from an imbalance of these 3 types. Any imbalance will create an unnatural need or desire that distracts from true will. We can only know what we have come here for by balancing these 3 types and activating our true will. All false identity states vanish as balance takes hold, revealing a happy healthy loving you. Good luck, you can succeed at anything you will.

      I agree that thoughts cause unhappiness, but you still need to provide an argument of why we should eliminate unhappiness before jumping to the conclusion of controlling mind.
      If you want to eliminate unhappiness because of survival instinct or unpleasant thought experience, then you defeat the whole purpose of dominating and controlling your thoughts.

      I always had a negative reaction to people who said to stop thinking and be here now. I was like: “what am I missing?” Some otherwise really intelligent people seemed to be saying things that did not make any sense. But this video, more than anything else I have ever seen illustrates almost perfectly what the real issue was. Everyone seems to assume that they know what another person means when they say words like “thinking”. To illustrate what I mean, use the word “Love” -some people think it means sex and some people think it means helping someone reach their goals or accomplish a great meaningful thing. Some think it means unity and sharing. Some people think it’s a cosmic power enabling and binding all things. Some people think it’s their bodily reactions and neurotransmitters of reward released by their favorite ice cream or sushi. The word “thinking” is exactly like this. I think everyone would be so much better off and less lost on the path to self-realization and understanding if we paid more attention to these things. We shouldn’t be ashamed that we get it so wrong, the same thing can be understood across many levels coherently. It’s like reading a book as a child and understanding it one way and later seeing a higher pattern in the same story-or like watching Sponge Bob with your kids and you both enjoy the humor on two different levels, Lol.
      Anyway what Eckhart and a lot of people get wrong is the word “thinking”. In this video where the person is illustrated with all the things above his head, I realized quite clearly what the real issue is. The motivation behind the movement and interpretation of symbols moving through your senses. What I mean to say is that what most people say is “thinking” I don’t do and I never have done. The word I would use is “worry” or to go one step more precise: “pain avoidance problem solving based on fear of judgement and self judgement”. So that’s why it took me so long to understand what that was. When I “think” I usually don’t use words. I use images and abstract symbolic patterns and movies in my mind with everything in place down to the particles and forces just like in reality. It took me a long time to assemble this. Once you do, you can actually discover things about the world and yourself. Then you watch emotions come bubbling up like oil fermenting since the dinosaurs and distill that shit and run your life with it on your terms. Don’t fear and get stuck in the tar pits! Otherwise we will end up sitting around lamenting “alas poor Yorric, I knew him well!” Holding his 💀. It’s like I come from the other side and my emotions work for my truth and beauty meaning engine and not the other way round. Liberate yourself from worry yes, but remember what real thinking beyond the perversion of painful worry brought us-men on the moon, chemistry, medicine, the ability to avoid illnesses, Freedom, the printing press, and relativity, among a great many other things! THAT is thinking. Worrying is the tar pit of the past extending itself into a future where it doesn’t really exist ❤️

      Dark Feather If I am not mistaken, I believe that the aborigines of Australia did this regularly as part of their culture and thought nothing wrong with it. Just wanted to point out that Shakespeare maybe had a point? But then I see bad things exactly like this and in the long run much worse being done within our own culture as acceptable and even good. Anyway I am not saying these are my views, I don’t ever actually form hard opinions about things except this: there ARE objective standards of good and evil actually written over and over into the fabric of existence but they are not automatically apparent and so take a long time to learn about and see the meaning of-objective thinking. So it’s not that good and evil are relative or something-that’s not the wisdom there. It’s that the path of good involves thinking in a particular upwardly mobile way beyond your own immediate needs and fears toward higher principles. So yeah you have a great point, but also Shakespeare can still be the bard. 🥰

Healthy bonds and connections can last lifetimes and be very beneficial for cultivating a mindset towards enlightenment. Becoming dispassionat is key to learning how and, just as importantly, when to let go of attachment. Something to be tempered not ignored.

    You almost got to the subject of gratitude. I wish you had. Practicing gratitude on a daily basis has saved my life.. practice gratitude you can't be angry or fearful .you are in the present moment while you're practicing gratitude. Great way to start your day. Especially if you suffer from depression. Thanks again for a nice video

      The best piece of advice I ever heard was to imagine EVERYONE you come into contact with has an imaginary sign above their head saying “I AM IMPORTANT”. From that moment I looked at everyone differently and treated them ALL as important. Wow, did it come back to me in spades.

      @@Vlad-wl3fw I always recommend the bible. Psalm 139 is my favorite. A friend of mine used to say that there is a God sized hole in each of us and nothing else can fill it. That we are empty until we ask Jesus to save us and He fills the empty place in us. I know it is true for me. PTL 🙂

    A long time ago I got really sick. Like, seriously life threatening sick. Needed serious surgery (in fact 7 surgeries). Afterward, I was striped down to nothing. I realised being 'conscious of the now' for me was very strong, this without even trying. After, while driving my car in the autumn at traffic lights a leaf feel on my windscreen and floated away. It was an amazing moment for me. To be alive, right then, to witness autumn. I felt so very lucky to be alive to witness this event. Maybe crazy sounding, I know. But, not so at the same time. I'm very lucky to be alive. For me, life tastes very sweet.

      Glad you're OK. Thanks to your comment I realized that I'm happy person because I'm healthy and with my loving family and my present problems doesn't matters. But I know that after a while I will forget about this and I'll start to worry about simple things again.

      I think that's called 'satori'. I had such a moment when I crashed my car and was certain it would be my death (I barreled off the road and into a ditch). Afterward, I felt deeply peaceful and alive. This was many years before reading The Power of Now.

      I guess just be, just exist, like he said in the video, be in the present. For me these are moments like when I hug my cat while laying on the floor, sit by the water, or hang out with my friends and be aware how amazing everything is. Or by meditating that is when I personnaly stop thinking and just be in the moment.

And I love to watch videos about the brain and about consiousness, I want to learn as much as posible about myself and my body. I mean ofcourse I am not 100% happy all the time, but I know I have my mind under control and if I am bothered by somthing I let it go eassy and just go on with my life. I am really suprised if I notice that I am grumpy or irritated because it is such a rare feeling for me.

      You're probably on to something but I believe it's way more complicated than that, especially if we're tapping into mindfulness and addressing all of the different personality types and the different ways our cognitive faculties manifest in accordance with our individual circumstances and our own limbic processes and the expansion of the prefrontal cortex.
      People with my personality type ( MBTI ISTP types that favors high extroverted sensing and perceiving and introverted thinking but low extroverted feeling, low intuition, and unfortunately lowered longterm ambitions) and my traits ( high in consciousness, low in neuroticism) find it a lot easier to thrive in the present or just go with the flow. But there is a pivotal balancing point that shouldn't be ignored or avoided.
      Someone oppositional in my personality type would be higher in neuroticism and emotionally energy and hyper sensitivity. They will benefit from any of the new age philosophies and meditation techniques and refocusing their priorities. But my types would need to think more and feel more in order to find a pivotal balance point.
      One book that I gained a lot of perspective and personal growth from was "The Four Agreements" the wisdom book by Don Miguel Ruiz. Reading it for the first time was a spiritual escapade like having a first person experience of an emotional excursion into the essence of experiencing an enlightening expedition that equates to the epitome of elevating empathy in order to expell the ego and enjoy the existence of everything.

      nodozhit great alliteration!! Your remarkable depth of interest in the various personality systems reminds me of my own. I’m glad more and more people are using them for good.
      But I think he is right. Eckhart’s point (much like many many other wise teachers) is comically simple. All of the extra time and energy we spend digging into our personal psychologies to understand our patterns is certainly time well spent, but suffering stops when we cease to identify with the thinking mind. That’s all there is to it:)
      Of course, if your goal is understanding, then the numerous systems out there (Big 5, Myers-Briggs, Enneagram, etc) are great tools. But if your goal is to reduce suffering, the answer is right on the surface

      I can still agree with you two about Eckhart. And, I appreciate your perspectives on this subject matter.
      In my opinion, there are many paths to modern day spiritual journeys. Empowering kids to choose what they can do within their own circle of influence could be as inspirational, innovative, and informative to them as a charismatic circus clown's capacity to captivate children's imaginations by engaging them, entertaining them, and educating them. Thus, giving them something else to look forward to.
      And yeah, a philosophical revelation can corral, compound, and consolidate many individual aspects under one conviction that becomes as simplistic as the way a quick clap or snap of the fingers is the consequence of an unspoken form of communication that is known to command and concentrate other's attention to that source of suspicion.
      The speculations and realizations can be comically superficial, but it also can be contrived through conformity and complacency, and can even be conceived as an anomaly in opposition that still leads to contemplating complicated complexities, at the same time.
      Many philosophers and thought leaders have that way of implementing their conceptual skills and ideas. And it's like an art to be able to convey those cognitive connections between Mankind's collective consciousness and our carousel of contributions by countless individuals that came in search of self fulfillment via knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
      Whether you seek behavioral balance, spiritual supplements, or pyscho analytical scientific research, it's all in service of the nervous system's own sense of its self within you, and its need for security, survival, sensibility, sensuality, sexuality, and even social status that's all stimulated from within our own selves and creates those sensations that savors the seconds of sobriety and serenity and sole satisfaction.

And every time you look around, you'll see that it's still there whenever you want it. Now, it's your present. But you must share it with others. Because you only have a moment to really enjoy it.
      Chakras is a little bit foreign to me. But yoga exercises, chess, swimming, walking the nature trails, admiring the beautiful women, learning something new, and passing another milestone are 7 of the joys for this city fellow.

      1) To separate yourself from the mind, you must give up all attachments. Stop working, stop pursuing goals, stop searching for happiness…
      Then when all you’re left with is an empty life and a struggling, chaotic mind - a mind that no longer serves your desires, it just drives you crazy - you will willfully disassociate from the mind. There is no point in living in that chaos anymore.
      Suddenly you see the mind from a distance… your thoughts are quiet and unobtrusive like distant clouds. You found silence.
      As long as your mind is helping you survive, thrive, reach your goals… you cant let it go.
      2) Eternal presence. I haven’t completed this step yet, that’s why I’m watching this video… please ask again in 10 years. Thanks

"How long will this last? I can't stand this, this is unbearable. I would give up anything to stop this. Im going to die!" These are thoughts about the past and future that truly deliver the torment, it's not the unpleasant physical experience itself.
      And it's important to note that under bad enough circumstances like torture or worse, it might impossible (for ordinary human) to separate oneself from the clinging to thoughts about past and future that are really the reason of ones suffering, instead of letting those go and just being present.

    I'll be honest, I've been doing the stop thinking part for a few years now. I always thought i was probably going crazy because i hadn't heard of thus tolle dude until now. I just got fed up of the constant worry of failure and the hurt of my previous mistakes. I dunno when i cracked but i just did. I just said ah screw it i dontgive a damn. This has helped me so much . People think I'm irresponsible or something but hey I'm not the one guessing away at a very changeable very variable future🤷‍♂

    Hey y'all. The answer to your suffering is to laugh at it. Laugh at your trembling and your fearful ideas. Laugh at those whose instill it within you. Become beautiful and joyous. Do not despise those around you or your situation but see it as your part to play. You don't need stress and suffering in your life. It's perfectly fine to see it for what it is, which is a distraction and headache, and laugh it off. Sounds simple but it's true. Not in satiety, but in laughing and beauty will your longing and suffering cease. Beauty and laughter is in itself the means and end. Most of this comes from Friedrich Nietzsche, my favorite author. I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from my favorite novel of all time, Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

    The teachings of the great stoics are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. The physical body may have gone but their consciousness never will. That will exist forever and as there is only one consciousness that wisdom is within us all. It’s within every living thing for we are all one. We all come from and will return to the same place.

    The past can and should be let go if it is causing pain, but we worry about the future because we need to live. Worrying is a curse but also a gift because if you only lived in the now you wouldn’t be aware of what’s next and although the pain of thought is undesirable, it is necessary to continue living. If you did decide to only feel the now instead of thinking of the soon to come, then eventually you would die (maybe of starvation), and there would no longer be a Now to feel.

      However that dsnt mean,we shldnt exercise our ability to plan ahead....this ability to think,plan ahead and execute is a result of years of evolution.......Should we just lose that and resort back to being animals???...it may slightly decrease our suffering but then there wnt be any real progress and development......our ability to maximize pleasure will be gone and we will be at the mercy of accidental happenings.......

    On minimizing anxiety, this is really a good way to put it. A person that has anxiety may be aware that he is anxious, but he may not necessarily know what to do with that info. If you are that person, this book will be good for you.
