  • Okay, I had a little break-through, and I've now connected three of the four Laika movies! ParaNorman, Coraline, and Kubo & the Two Strings all share a common thread - the Beldam!

    I also want to add to this theory that Agatha might be the Beldam's daughter. Aggie was killed as a witch and I think Coraline is witch. At the beginning she is dowsing for water, also called water witching. She uses an oak branch, a tree sacred to Druids and Witches throughout history. Her father calls her a 'twitchy-witchy' girl. Coraline is left handed and in Arabic countries, they believe the left hand is the devil's hand. Perhaps the Beldam lured Coraline's family to the Pink Palace. She may have sent her feelers out to find a child with magical abilities either to keep herself rejuvenated or because she missed Aggie. Coraline says she's originally from Michigan and her mother gets into an accident so they go ALL the way to Oregon? Coraline has suitcase with blue flowers on it. 5 pointed flowers allude to the pentagram(the 5 pointed witch's star) and inside is a hat with a lotus flower on it. The 7th chakra is a purple lotus at the top of our heads that governs spiritual awakening, psychic(magic) abilities and our connection to the Universe as a whole. And why are Misses Spink and Forcible into the occult? I think Wybie might be aware of the occult as well because he knows about water witching. Witches are often accompanied by a familiar(owls, toads, black cats!)and it's apparent that he talks to the cat and the cat also talks back.

    Holy wow! It happened again! Lol! In the last 30 seconds of my ParaNorman theory (being released on August 18th), I bring up the concept of how Agatha's mother could be the Beldam (because of the Massachusetts location/whatnot), though it's very briefly at the end of my vid, but wow! We have some similar ideas...

    • @TheTheorizer
      @TheTheorizer Před 7 lety +34

      At the time, all I had was the location evidence, so in the vid I call the mom-Beldam idea a bit over-the-top-outlandish, but based off of your evidence, I think tis a bit more convincing than I thought before

      that's what I say in my upcoming video, but I still really glossed over it. The main theory is about Agatha's mom before Agatha's death, and not her life afterwards.

      Yeah, they're definitely not connected. Maybe they all take place in the same universe, but The Boxtrolls seems much more likely to be the start of a completely different story. Maybe the next Laika film will be connected to The Boxtrolls.

    Hello! I am just wondering, If Agatha WAS called a which and has all these supernatural abilities per say, Like being able to talk to desised ones and whatnot, And then having the Glowing magic orb and Witch ora around her shown in the picture at 3:59, Then is it possible that Maybe Agatha IS the Beldam? i mean, She has all the checkmarks:
    She has a motive to turn evil: check: everyone calling her a which and her parent(s) abandoning her
    Glowing orb ora thing: check: HOWEVER- i Must point out, that although the beldam has no distinct features of the glowing ora thing, she WAS capable of luring kids into this alternate pocket universe where SHE created the pink palace limbo. So you know, close enough. So perosing that, maybe she was able to control her powers?
    AND THEN:: at 4:28, you state that BELDAM wasn't her actual name, SO- her real name could be, Agatha as it has never been mentioned in the movie AT ALL.
    Then, you state that " beldam" is an old fashioned word for "which" which Agatha was called during trial.
    Now, looking at the pictures at 4:37 and 4:41, The Beldam looks like a grown version of Agatha. Although it has been many decades since Agatha was killed, that would give her time to rebuild herself, make a plan to kill anyone in the bloodline of the people who killed her. So what I'm guessing, The Beldam is killing people (more specifically kids) because she docent know the ancestors of who killed her. AND SO
    The Magic Sand: It might not be magic sand at all! It could be power from the beldam (Agatha). She has like all these little minions and is able to transform into any parent or anything you have a close bond to, that would put her motives and full steam.
    1 Make victims feel comfortable
    2 Persuade kids that i and this place is better than the real world
    3 Cut out kids eyes
    4 Avenge my death for my powers
    I know this is ALOT to take in, but just watch paranormal and the scenes with Agatha in it and THEN just watch the scenes with Beldam in it in Coraline. It kinda DOES make sense if you think about it.
    OH AND PLEASE DO THIS AS A THEROY IN THE FUTERE!!

    well if the picture of Mrs Lobats (i'm sorry if i spelt it wrong) sister was taken before she disappeared then how did she return to the real world to take said picture, and she was in the Beldam's grasp because she had the doll. so how could she go to the real world if she was only able to go to the limbo pink palace?

    Some more evidence for Coraline being stuck in the Limbo Palace: At the end of the movie- in the garden scene- the camera zoooms out and we see the whole garden. It's shaped like Coraline's head, all down to the dragonfly pin. That'd be an awfully odd coincidence, and a very large mistake on Laika's part.

    Personally I would say that Agatha is not the child of one of Kubo's aunts/ the Beldam, but a younger version. The Beldam was never human but maybe not a God either. I mean demi-gods have powers too. So maybe Agatha grew up and her powers evolved over time. She's always been evil so why suddenly go out and have a kid with someone and then completely forget about her? This is just a theory and hasn't had much thought put into it so is easily discredited but it somewhat makes sense right?

I saw all your Coraline theories and you said in one of them that the cat can be working for the Beldam because he had her "claw" on his hear,I thought than,back in the days when she had Agatha,she had a husband too,and maybe he noticed that she had this powers and told all the village but not meaning than she was dangerous,but everybody thought so and started to haunt her as a witch,so she escaped in Oregon and his husband followed her 'cause he still was in love,maybe,and she decided to keep him with her transforming him in a cat,wich means bad luck,wich is what he bought her,and is always witch's pet,so maybe she decided then than she actually wanted to become what everybody thought she was,but never stopped looking for her daughter too...I don't know,it could make any sense but,I just thought about it

    If this theory were to hold water, then Norman would be descended from the Beldam as well. He is related to Aggie via his mother. His uncle is Mr. Prenderghast. Prenderghast is also Aggie's last name. Aggie's mother had more children than just Aggie. We also know that the magic isn't inherent in everyone in the line. Norman's mother and sister can't see the dead until Aggie awakens. By then everyone in town sees them.

If she's a witch she can easily do magic and go into a human body, she can become evil with dark magic cause the most powerful magic IS dark magic and wouldn't the beldam need magic to make the other world cause its obviously all white. So she needs magic. Get it? Probably not but she can talk to ghosts if she can talk to the ghost children

However, i noticed the cut and embellishment that adorn the robe. They appear to be Eastern Asian in origin. Where would the Beldam/ Other Mother get the idea to form material to make those embellishments? Or the cut of the robe? You may have already noticed and I am very late to the Norboline Land, but I thought that I should drop this thought here. Another detail that adds weight to your theory.

    I really like this theory. It makes a lot of sense and is really cool to think about. It would be really cool if somehow all these characters could meet. Like maybe, if Coraline was stuck in the other world, maybe a way she could escape was through reaching out to Norman for help through some kind of psychic connection... MAYBE, the cat is actually the lingering spirit of Kubo, who grew up and died, but realized one of his aunts was still out there, and goes around trying to help her victims? Or even if not, maybe his spirit could still help connect Coraline to Norman, the only one who can get her back to the world of the living... :O

  • @lillianmode7776

    just a quick note i want to add after watching this video (great job by the way!). In the other world from coraline, it is only night time with the full moon in the sky. i believe this can be connected to kubo because his grandfather and aunts belong to the MOON kingdom and because (if i remember correctly....) kubo's aunts only come to confront him at night (which is why his mother in the begining of the movie doesnt want kubo to be out when its night time). when i say this i believe that the aunts strength are at their strongest when it it night time and the moon is out. if that is true, this could be why the beldam keeps the other world in night time so that her powers can be at their strongest. this can also be proven (or potentially proven) because the beldam uses her "powers" with a great amount of strength when the moon is full and when coraline gathers the ghost children's eyes and the moon gets darker, the beldam gets weaker. still trying to think of how to connect paranorman to all of this....... anyways here is my "quick" thought i hope it can help with something!! :D

  • @nadezhdakeniya1528
    @nadezhdakeniya1528 Před 7 lety +1

    Oh can I try to add to the theory?
    Well basically I thought:
    "Wait, this theory does not make sense, because why would Agatha be a demigod, if Norman and his uncle had the same powers, even his uncle demonstrated that he was a very powerful ghost compared to others by basically making a toilet explode due to his emotions, Agatha isn't too abnormal to be a demigod."
    But then it hit me. Norman could be the descendant of Kubo!
    This would make sense, since he would have the same powers of Agatha, and his uncle having the same powers. So that would mean that Norman is the descendant of the moon king (from his mother's side) giving him the powers that he has now.
    (plus there's that scene of Kubo hanging with his ghost mom and dad at the end of the move)

    So I don't know if you or some one else connected this cause I haven't seen all your videos yet any or others on Paranorman and it's currently 10pm so I'm too tired to look, I'm sorry. But configuring a sleep schedule for college, which starts in three days.
    Either way I've always thought of Norman as being a descendant/relative of Agatha and her family. Their similar appearance and his family's generation skipping, closely related, powers.
    What if the mother of Agatha had a younger child, or was with child and forced to give it up because her first born was accused of witchcraft.
    I say younger because generation skipping(maybe this comes later from increasingly muddied bloodlines, idk) and Agatha didn't mention older siblings or any siblings, but either way an older sibling would probably be executed too on the grounds they may just be a witch like Agatha and being older, unsavable.
    But a younger kid could be "rehabilitated". So again what if there was another child born with or without powers and taken away at a young age and raised to prevent it from becoming Agatha and on a personal mission or whatever, to keep Agatha from fulfilling her curse.
    And as their kids were born with powers they trained them based on what memories they had or what they were told about poor Agatha.
    And seeing how much power Agatha had while dead, she was obviously quite powerful when alive. And seeing what power Norman has, maybe the bloodline becomes muddied and weak (so much so as to skip generations, IF that does come later in the family) as more regular humans are added to it. Causing weaker powers, probably why he couldn't even put her back to sleep. He didn't have enough power. But the rest of his ancestors could. He also probably connected more with her still by being a relative and she subconsciously recognized that.
    Idk I'm tired but this is what my brain concocted at 10:57 pm so enjoy. I hope it makes sense and adds life to your theory in some way. Either way enjoy and I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes. I woke up at 11:30 to add on to this. Paranorman is a favorite of mine and I have a lot of theories on it.
    Also I'm not taking credit for the base of him being related, because it's probably meant to be implied, I'm mainly trying to say why his powers may be weak and why his family is against Agatha. Plus how he too could be related to "beldam" and Agatha.
    Again I'm tired and haven't looked anything up and this comment is basically spur of the moment. (Already considering deleting it) and have no base other what's really obvious (his relation to agatha) and how or why his powers are weaker and how he again, may be related to The Aunt/Beldam.
    If any one believes I've stolen an idea or used to many already existing ideas, please alert me and I'll delete this post. Thank you for even taking the time to read this

    hi so i was watching all your coraline videos and i realized there hasn't been a reason why there is an interest with the gardening. so I've seen the movie a couple of times and noticed that the tunnel to the other world looks like a rose almost. Her parents know alot about gardening so what if the other mother saw this when coraline was taking the doll with her especially when she was talking to her parents, and figured why not make the tunnel a blue rose (we associate blue with calm, and obviously coraline also likes gardening). do you think this could be another way the other mother got coraline to go through the door?. i haven't read the book so i don't know all the details. but do you think that coraline and her family's hobby of gardening could be apart of a bigger picture? i mean the other mother even makes a special garden for coraline. it was just a thought so i hope you read this.

    I'm kinda worried you may not find much connecting all of these movies. The BoxTrolls is gonna be a tricky cuz there's nothing really 'paranormal'. just a town with little monsters. but i may have a thought for you: Perhaps, the order of the beldam's story is Kubo, Boxtrolls, Paranorman, and then Coraline. In Kubo, when the Beldam is 'first formed', perhaps she wandered and found her way to Cheesebridge. What if in The Boxtrolls, the Beldam is trying out her new shapeshifting abilities and posing as Winnifred's mother (Lady Portlyrind). She tries to adjust herself and her personality, trying to make an image that children will like. But since she's so new at the game, she's not the best mother to Winnifred (explaining why she's barely in the movie). She does her best, not trying to make her Limbo worlds or any sort of thing. The Boxtrolls could be the recovery area if you will for the Beldam. A safe place to rest, recover, and to experiment her new abilities

    Dear The Fangirl, I have some evidence that the beldam is one of the sisters from kubo and the two strings, notice how the beldam and the sister are both right handed and Agatha from paranorman is also right handed ( I think) so it is quite possible Agatha could be the daughter of the beldam. greetings from the UK

    I went back and rewatched a few of your Coroline theories and while most of them I agreed and understood, I began to ponder you theories. If everything your saying is true (or even plausible, which it is), then how is the Belldam related to M(r)s. Lovat? And who could the cat truly be? Could the cat be (by Kubo's movie) the Belldams brother, M(r)s. Lovat's son or brother or Agatha's father. I am curious to know and would appreciate any theories and/or proof you could show me that would tie your previous theories together. Thanks.

    Interesting theory. But I can't really get behind it as Coralime was originally just adapted from a book. I don't think Laila would build a universe around that.

    • @TheFangirlWatches
      @TheFangirlWatches  Před 7 lety

      But the book is very different from the movie too. So, that's like comparing Disney's Hercules to mythologies Hercules - some things will overlap, but a lot of things are only from the movie.

    • @3triplezero0
      @3triplezero0 Před 7 lety +1

      I'm not trying to say the movie is the same as the book? I'm sorry if it came off that way. I'm simply saying that I think it's rather doubtful a that there was any intention to build a connected universe with something that was an adaption while the others are original. If that makes any more sense?
      (On an off-topic note I'm not a big fan of Hercules the Disney version. I do love the music and the greek/roman art influences but that's about it. The way they handled the mythology itself I wasn't exactly too fond of. Sure they have to make it kid-friendly and they had to have some sort of antagonist...but poor Hades and the Titans. The way they depicted the underworld was also a disservice to the mythology.)

    Well if this theory is correct then they're very very distant cousins, like hundreds of years apart, just under 5 centuries
    but to exist together at the same time, they'd be second cousins

    I can't find it here, but when coraline is in the other mothers house, there is a portrait you can look for on the back wall of a woman. The theorized mentioned this as well, which he believes that that picture is of the belldamn in one of her original forms. I find it intresting how you brought up that she was a fallen goddess. But there is a problem with your theory. If the belldamn was Agathas mother, then who carried on the bloodline for Norman to be Born? I guess Kubo could have, but that would be kind of weird , because Agatha and Norman have been confirmed to be related on his mother's side of the family, and the resemblance is uncanny. Maybe The belldamn had two children. What if one was taken away before Agatha was born but the child was taken away due to out of wedlock interactions. The belldamn was outcast, broken but still going, when she had a second child, AKA Agatha. She hid this child away, out in the woods. Where she loved her, cared for her, did everything for her that was in there reach. But it was one day the belldamn went out for a walk. Agatha saw this as an opportunity, she got out and started to play, and talk with the dead. Towns men out hunting saw her talking with people that weren't there. Called it witch craft, put her on trial, found her guilty, and killed her. The belldamn was forced to watch her child be strung up be her neck and gasp for air until she was dead. The belldamn distraught and disgusted with humanity locked her self away, while her first born child had lived with the father. For several years she was alone. Do you know how much insanity you can inflict on yourself if you were all alone for so long? Well it's a lot, she got this idea. She wanted children. She wanted to be with children. So she snatched one up, but once the little blue boy tried to get away, she killed him and took his soul, or "eyes", because the eyes are the window to the soul. She found it addicting and powerful, so she continued.
    I kind of rambled on a bit, and this has many flaws, but my main point is who carried on the bloodline for Norman?
