I read Song of Achilles earlier this month in about two days and of course ended up ugly crying at 2am, went to bed, woke up next day and re-read the last 30 pages, cried some more. So good! She said it took 10 years for her to write it, and it doesn't feel like that at all, it seems so effortless because she's so skilled. The writing is deceptively simple but the imagery is so complex.

I read a lot this year so it is really difficult to choose ten favorites. I am choosing some series to get around that. I was surprised to see that we had read some of the same books and chosen them as favorites. In no particular order - The Green Bone Saga Series, The Parable of the Sower and The Parable of the Talents, The Strange the Dreamer Series, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, A Master of Djinn by P. Djeli Clark, FireKeepers Daughter by Angeline Boulley, Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston, A Long Petal of the Sea by Isabel Allende, We Are Not Free by Traci Chee, and Piranesi by Susanna Clark.

First of all great books! I really love your channel and recommendations ❤️ you are my favorite booktuber❤️ I read Pachinko on your recommendation and loved it, and I thought: if you love it you probably will like Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. It has many things in common: you follow many generations of a family, it’s emotional, talks about immigration and meaning of home, it is a historical fiction and super well written. I really loved it 🥰

I just finished The First 15 Lives of Harry August by Claire North (recommendation of yours? - I can't recall where I heard about it) and it was my favorite novel this year. Have you read Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer? I can't remember if I read it this year or last, but it's one of my lifetime favorites. Highly recommend it if you haven't read it. :)

I've been reading the The Legends of the First Empire series by Michael J. Sullivan. It. Is. So. Good. I don't hear anyone talking about this series though and it's completely shocking. The first book has a lot of setup and character building in it, so not a ton of action, but the second book is amazing and it only gets better. I'm on book 5 of 6.
